  • Patent number: 4829675
Abstract: An electrical appliance (10) including a motor assembly (12) and a switch assembly (14). A handle assembly (16) spans between the motor and switch assemblies (12 and 14, respectively). Lower handle (16a) includes a free end (22a) and upper handle (16b) includes a free end (22b). The free ends (22) form notches (26) which receive a wire (18) conductively coupling motor assembly (12) to switch assembly (14). Notches (26) allow for a shorter length of wire (18) and prevent abrasion and excessive bending of wire (18) during packaging and shipment.

  • Patent number: 4791726
Abstract: A head-held, pressurized fluid operated, shears unit for use in the processing of poultry and the like. The shears unit has a body member having a weight and size for ready grasp by a user. One of the cutting blades is fixed in position, and the second blade is pivotally-mounted so as to move toward and away from the first blade to effect a cutting action. The motion of the pivotal blade is effected by connecting that blade, through a pivotal linkage, to a reciprocatable piston rod that extends from a forward end of the body member. This piston rod is fastened at a second end to a double-acting piston within a piston cylinder in the body member. A master valve operated by a lever for grasp by a user directs the pressurized fluid to one of two sides of the double-acting piston so as to effect moving of the piston and piston rod and thus opening or closing the pivotal blade with respect to the fixed blade.

  • Patent number: 4726718
Abstract: A diamond cutter for use in a drill bit having a geometric size and shape normally characterized by unleached diamond product, such as STRATAPAX diamond cutters, can be fabricated by assembling a plurality of prefabricated leached polycrystalline diamond (PCD) elements in an array in a cutting slug. A cutting slug is formed of matrix material which in one embodiment is impregnated with diamond grit. The cutting face of the cutting slug is characterized by exposing at least one surface of each of the PCD elements disposed therein. The diamonds may be set within the cutting slug either in a compact touching array or in a spaced-apart relationship. More than one type of array may also be employed within a single cutting slug. The PCD elements can assume a variety of polyhedral shapes such as triangular prismatic elements, rectangular elements, hexagonal elements and the like. The plurality of diamond elements and the cutting slug are fabricated using hot pressing or infiltration techniques.

  • Patent number: 4715203
Abstract: A cold-working tool for thrusting an attached mandrel (14) partially through a hole in a metal workpiece and extracting the mandrel from the hole is disclosed. The tool comprises a pneumatic riveting gun (12) that has a body (21), a handle portion (22), and an elongate barret (24). A boss (30) is slidably retained within the outer end of the barrel. The mandrel is attached to the outermost end of the boss. The mandrel has an enlarged diameter portion (38). The riveting gun is connected to a source of pressurized air so that the impulsive forces generated by the riveting gun are transmitted through the boss to the mandrel for thrusting the mandrel through the hole. The tool also includes a housing (56) that substantially encloses the body and barrel of the gun, the housing has a forward end and a rearward end. A nose cap (72) is attached to the forward end of the housing to substantially enclose the boss with the mandrel projecting through a hole in the nose cap.

  • Patent number: 4712300
Abstract: This invention is a safety razor-blade holder consisting of a block of sponge-like material that is semi-rigid when dry and flacid when wet in which a conventional razor-blade assembly is implanted. The cutting edge or edges of the razor blades are preferably on or slightly below the surface of the sponge-block. When the wet sponge-block assembly is pressed lightly on the skin surface to be shaved, and moved in the direction indicated by the shape of the sponge-block, shaving occurs. It is particularly suitable for shaving arms, underarms, legs and body areas. No previous operational skill is necessary to shave satisfactorily.

  • Patent number: 4693322
Abstract: Apparatus for pneumatically stamping identifying impressions on a workpiece is provided. The apparatus includes a double-acting air cylinder having a hollow piston rod. An impact piston is provided inside the barrel formed inside the piston rod to, alternatively, seal an aperture in the piston or to travel inside the barrel in order to strike a plunger mounted in a plunger housing slidably supported by the leading end of the piston rod. A stamping head having an anvil adjacent to the stamping characters is provided to be mounted on the end of the plunger housing. In operation, compressed air is injected behind the piston rod thereby extending it toward the workpiece while compressed air is provided ahead of the impact piston to retain it in seated position on an aperture in the piston of the piston rod. When the stamping characters engage the workpiece, further advancement of the piston rod closes the source of compressed air ahead of the impact piston and opens venting apertures.

  • Patent number: 4671364
Abstract: A power-screwdriver device with variable torque adjustment consists essentially of a drive mechanism, transmission, and cutoff mechanism. In order to provide a power screwdriver that is strong and inexpensive and in which the torque can be controlled with no need for a torque clutch, there is a bearing site on a transmission shaft. The bearing allows the shaft to move radially. There is a sensor that emits a motor-cutoff signal when the shaft does move radially. The radial deviation is employed as a measure of torque. The measure is adjusted with an adjusting device.

  • Patent number: 4599795
Abstract: A cutting tool of the ratchet operated type comprises several elements. A movable blade having a plurality of notches along the rear end thereof is moved relative to a stationary blade by an opening and closing operation of a pair of blades through a push bar which is in engagement with one of the notches. A pawl for preventing the return of the movable blade is elastically biased so as to be kept in a position disengaged from all of the notches under normal conditions. The pawl is brought into engagement with one of the notches by the push bar only when the pair of handles are fully closed relative to each other. Due to the above construction, the cutting tool according to the invention brings about reduced wear of the pawl and the notches and an easy cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 4534500
Abstract: A setting device uses a driving piston for propelling fastening members into a receiving material. High pressure gases within an expansion chamber propel the driving piston through a working cylinder against a fastening element. A vent valve connects the expansion chamber with the atmosphere exterior of the setting device and, normally, the valve is maintained in the open position. A control member, located in part on the outside of the setting device, moves the vent valve into the closed position when a fastening member is to be driven.

  • Patent number: 4523410
Abstract: In a machine tool such as a surface grinding machine or the like, a guide mechanism for the machine tool wherein one of a pair of opposed guideways is formed into a hydrodynamic guideway, whilst the other guideway is formed into a hydrostatic guideway, the hydrodynamic guideway is utilized as only one master guide, and on the other hand, the hydrostatic guideway is made to act in such that a moving body is pushed onto the hydrodynamic guideway with a constant pressure, so that this arrangement makes uniform the contact pressure distribution in the hydrodynamic guideway, thus the posture of the moving body is improved thereby making the same to perform precision linear motion.
