  • Patent number: 9387941
Abstract: A method is provided for mitigation of aircraft bird strikes through the provision of conditions on the ground that totally prevents the formation of atmospheric thermals in the proximity of airports and airfields, whereby conflicts between soaring and migratory birds and aircrafts may be avoided. This is accomplished by modification of the topography of the field into a plurality of zones, as described herein and through construction of high albedo pavements, roads, artificial turfs and cool terrains.

  • Patent number: 9381926
Abstract: An improved zip line trolley allowing a rider control of his or her speed while traversing along a suspended cable. The trolley comprises front and back wheels conjoined via left and right trolley plates and a handle bar. Front and back hand brake levers are mounted onto the handle bar. When front and back hand brake levers are squeezed by the rider, they create a constricting force which applies friction to the suspended cable via brake pads. This frictional force slows the rider's speed to his or her desired rate and brings the rider to a safe stop at a precise location along the suspended cable. The rider is able to quickly and easily remove the trolley from the suspended cable and transport it to another.

  • Patent number: 9376817
Abstract: A Rafter Center Translation Tool Set 10 that when used with a standard 25 ft retractable tape measure 20 and a common 6 inch 7/32nd drill bit will provide for the translation of multiple vertically running horizontally displaced rafter centers from inside an accessible roof area where rafter rafters centers are visible, to outside a roof area on-top of a decking 3 above the shingles 4, requiring only two alignment holes for the translation of multiple centers along a 25 ft span. These centers are marked on a tape measures tape which is referenced and secured between a 1st Rafter Clip 1 and a horizontally displaced 2nd Rafter Clip 19 inside the roof area. The tape measures tape is then referenced and secured between an aligned 1st Translation Plate 15 and 2nd Translation Plate 18 on the outside of the roof, where the marked centers from the inside of the roof are now visible on the outside of the roof.

  • Patent number: 9365984
Abstract: An apparatus and method for using a single radial TWS product for a variety of applications is disclosed. Radial TWS products are used for intersections and the like. Often, different applications require radial TWS products of varying dimensions. The present invention includes a radial TWS product, having domes on its upper surface, which are ADAAG compliant. Markings are placed on the bottom surface, which indicate the appropriate places where the TWS product can be cut to achieve a variety of effective radii. These markings are positioned such that, after being cut, the resulting radial TWS product continues to meet the ADAAG required center-to-center spacing between domes of adjacent cut TWS products. In some embodiments, anchor members are used in conjunction with the TWS product to allow simple replacement.

  • Patent number: 9328512
Abstract: A Vacuum Insulating Glazing Unit (VIGU) comprises two or more glass lites (panes) spaced apart from one another and hermetically bonded to an edge seal assembly therebetween. The resulting cavity between the lites is evacuated to create at least one insulating vacuum cavity within which are disposed a plurality of stand-off members to maintain separation between the lites. The edge seal assembly is preferably compliant in the longitudinal (i.e., edgewise) direction to allow longitudinal relative motion between the two lites (e.g., from thermal expansion). The longitudinal compliance may be obtained by imprinting a three-dimensional pattern into the edge seal material. The edge seal assembly is preferably bonded to the lites with a first bond portion that is hermetic and a second bond portion that is load-resistant. Methods for producing VIGUs and/or compliant edge seal assemblies and VIGU and edge seal apparatus are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9315995
Abstract: The stiffeners of a composite material panel may be protected by a structural section having a configuration absorbing edge impacts without propagation of impact energy to the protected structure. Each composite panel with protected parallel stiffeners has a multiply front face coming to an edge and extending between two lateral flanks of outside plies, symmetrically relative to a median plane (Pm). A device for protecting each stiffener includes a structural section that caps the stiffener symmetrically relative to this median plane (Pm). This structural section consists of an upper section formed above the edge and configured to envelop a space above the edge, a lower section framing the lateral flanks by longitudinal walls (Pi) fastened to these flanks, and an intermediate section bearing at least partially on the edge via transverse walls (Pb) so as to minimize the propagation of impact forces to the lower section.

  • Patent number: 9222266
Abstract: A method of preventing disruption of a taped finished drywall board joint in a room having a center ridge member and angularly inclined ceiling rafters which involves a metallic connector positioned between the wallboard sections and the ridge member and rafters. The connector has two metallic wings with a center longitudinal bendable connection. The wings have flexible tabs at their free edges which are attached to the rafters and the connector itself is attached to the wallboard adjacent to the ridge member. The wallboard also is attached to the rafters 8-12 inches from the edges of the wings. Because the tabs can bend away from the wings, this construction allows the joint to flex if the rafters warp or shrink without disrupting the finish coating on the outside of the wallboard joint at the ridge member. The connector also can be applied to other critical joints in a home where the framing members are subject to movement such as flat ceilings to avoid truss uplift or rafter movement.
