  • Patent number: 7031695
Abstract: A portable terminal 10 according to the present invention is provided with a request acquiring means, a verifying means, and an output means. The request acquiring means acquires an access right authentication request from a display application 153 to a telephone directory management application 152 managing telephone directory data stored in a telephone directory database 151, along with application authentication information held by the display application 153. The verifying means determines the validity of the application authentication information in accordance with the access right authentication request. When it is determined that the application authentication information is valid, the output means permits the access right authentication request and outputs the telephone directory data to the display application 153 in accordance with an access request to the telephone directory data.

  • Patent number: 7027577
Abstract: A method and system for selecting a Multimedia Resource Function Controller (MRFC) for allocating resources for a conference call based on a pre-defined condition. In a first embodiment, the condition is associated with a status of an MRFC of a first network, such as an overload of resources, a failure, or an inexistence of the MRFC in the first network. When the condition is detected, an application server (AS) of the first network delegates the responsibility of allocating the resources for the conference call to an MRFC of a second network. In a second embodiment, the pre-defined condition is associated with a location of a User Equipment (UE) involved in the conference call. Based on the UE's location, the AS of the first network selects an MRFC of a second network, and delegates the responsibility of allocating the resources for the conference call to the MRFC of the second network.

  • Patent number: 7027575
Abstract: Telephone numbers are omitted from a communications device (200) or line (110b), thereby inhibiting incoming calls. Outgoing calls are permitted on the line or communications device and are facilitated in part by an equipment identifier (122b, 222) used in a telecommunications network. A surrogate telephone number, which may already be assigned to a customer, is used for billing, caller identification and other functions. The equipment identifier is used for maintenance, administration and other functions associated with the communications device or line. A telephone number is temporarily made available to the communications device or line for a predetermined period of time upon request by a user. This advantageously reduces the number of telephone numbers required in a telecommunications network.

  • Patent number: 7023976
Abstract: A method is provided for enabling a customer to activate a call waiting feature for a list of caller numbers specified by the user. Calls from numbers on the list generate call waiting tones if they call while the customer is talking to someone. Other callers will hear a busy signal or may be routed to voicemail. The customer can activate the feature and add numbers to, or can remove numbers from, the list by entering one or more codes and interacting with prompts from a network server to enter the numbers to be added or deleted. A method for administering the feature on the network can include administering user charges for activating and maintaining the feature and deleting a number from the list when the user receives a call from the number.

  • Patent number: 7020261
Abstract: A user calls a directory assistance service provider to search for a desired telephone number and be connected to a party at the desired number. In one such connection, the user is afforded enhanced directory assistance upon a user command in the form of an out-of-band signaling message, e.g., SS7 signaling message. For example, the user may be afforded further operator assistance by pressing on the user telephone a predetermined key (e.g., “*” key), which is detectable by the directory assistance service provider as an SS7 signaling message.

  • Patent number: 7020263
Abstract: A network monitoring agent is disclosed that monitors network conditions, such as traffic volume, and determines when to dynamically adjust the encoding scheme for one or more connections. The network monitoring agent can select an encoding standard based on, for example, current network traffic volume, network error characteristics, time of day or day of week. In the illustrative network traffic implementation, an encoding standard that provides a lower degree of compression and a higher quality level is selected at times of lighter network traffic. Likewise, as network traffic increases, an encoding standard that provides a higher degree of compression, although at a lower quality level, is selected in order to maximize the network utilization. The network monitoring agent notifies one or both of the devices associated with each connection of changes in the encoding scheme. Generally, both devices must change the compression algorithm at the same time, to ensure proper decoding of received packets.

  • Patent number: 7013135
Abstract: Peak detector 104 detects the first peak timing where the correlation value of the first synchronization channel is the greatest. SSCH identifier 108 identifies the second synchronization channels by adding the correlation values of the second synchronization channels at a number of timings, and detects the timing where the sum of the correlation values of the identified second synchronization channels is the largest as a second peak timing. Based on the first and second peak timings, timing controller 105 instructs SSCH identifier 108 on the timing to perform correlation calculation. Likewise, based on the first and second peak timings, frequency corrector 110 calculates the error in a frame time measured by a base station, and converts this into a frequency difference, and changes the frequency of an oscillator in RF receiver 102 in such a way that corrects the frequency difference.

  • Patent number: 7013145
Abstract: To address the scarcity of radio frequency (RF) spectrum, the disclosed systems offer unique ways to mitigate interference between television broadcasters (including their direct audience and viewers served via cable television) and other concurrent users of the RF spectrum, e.g. for one-way or two-way wireless communication. A preferred embodiment makes use of the “framing” characteristics of the “letterbox” video display format. RF emissions of the simultaneous RF spectrum user are keyed “on” only or substantially only during the time intervals when the blanking intervals and/or letterbox-border video lines are being scanned on the display, i.e. when the potentially affected (interfered with) television display is in the letterbox-frame-scanning portions of each video field. The concurrent uses may support services for voice (including telephony, music etc.), data (including Internet, intranet, etc.

  • Patent number: 6975715
Abstract: A TAPI service provider may request configuration information from hardware such as a PBX. Configuration information received from the hardware is stored in a list and compared to the existing configuration list. Two new lists are then generated: an added list and a deleted list. All devices in the deleted list are deleted from the internal database and deleted messages are sent to the TAPI service provider. All new devices are temporarily added to the internal database and addition messages are sent to the TAPI service provider. The new device configuration list is then saved, and the added devices are marked as permanent.

  • Patent number: 6956936
Abstract: A telephone communication system utilizing a virtual phone wherein a telephone switch or similar digital switching device, a digital telephone and an external device such as a personal computer (PC) or other processor are generically interfaced. The virtual phone generic interface is configurable and comprises a set of virtual phone data structures, internal and external virtual phone application program interfaces, and an external transfer protocol. Software designated an abstraction layer provides communication between the internal virtual phone application program interface, the telephone switch and the telephone set. The generic interface converts proprietary telephone switch or external interface application protocols into a common format and functions as a protocol interpreter between proprietary switching system protocols and protocols of various applications.

  • Patent number: 6947707
Abstract: Apparatus, and associated method, verifies values of antenna weightings used to weight transmit signals transmitted by a base transceiver station which utilizes transmit diversity. Verification is performed at a mobile station which receives transmit signals sent by the base transceiver station. Sequence estimation is provided by a sequence estimator which thereby verifies the values of the feedback information. Once verified, the values are returned to the base transceiver station and are utilized to adjust the weightings of the antennas for subsequently-communicated signals by the base station. The use of sequence estimation permits improved accuracy of verification of the values of the antenna weightings.
