  • Patent number: 8006266
Abstract: In customizing a user profile employed by a recommendation system, users are prompted for feedback regarding content that is the subject of the recommendation system. Only feedback that does not degrade performance of the recommendation system, as measured by the error rate, is accepted and utilized to modify the user profile. Feedback that would degrade performance is discarded without being employed to alter the user profile. In this manner, error is continually driven toward a minimum by system changes based on feedback.

  • Patent number: 7978649
Abstract: A “unified” MIMO system that supports multiple operating modes for efficient data transmission is described. Each operating mode is associated with different spatial processing at a transmitting entity. For example, four operating modes may be defined for (1) full-CSI or partial-CSI transmission and (2) with or without steering transmit diversity (STD). An appropriate operating mode may be selected for use based on various factors (e.g., availability of a good channel estimate). With steering transmit diversity, data is spatially spread and transmitted on multiple spatial channels, and a single rate may then be used for all spatial channels used for data transmission. A receiving entity may utilize a minimum mean square error (MMSE) technique for all operating modes. The receiving entity may derive a spatial filter matrix and perform receiver spatial processing in the same manner for all operating modes, albeit with different effective channel response matrices.

  • Patent number: 7979878
Abstract: An inter pap active television program guide system is provided in which a user may direct the program guide to display a browsing display screen. The browsing display screen includes a list of current programs including a movable highlight region, a video window containing a television program to which the system is currently tuned, and a detailed description of the highlighted program listing. The user may position the highlight region using remote control cursor keys. The user may then synchronize the content of the video window with the highlighted program listing by pressing a select key or a channel up or down key. If the user changes channels repeatedly using the channel up and down keys, the contents of the video window and the highlighted program listings remain in synchronization.

  • Patent number: 7974181
Abstract: Systems and methods for reducing the peak-to-average power ratio (PAR) at the transmitter can reduce the dynamic range required in various analog components. PAR can be reduced by applying a time-domain compensation signal in the oversampled regime, using tones reserved for PAR reduction. A set of vectors corresponding to PAR tones is generated by processing out-of-phase symbols for each PAR tone to form a span matrix. The span matrix is used to find a best fit of a desired target signal to a time-domain compensation signal comprising only PAR tones.
