  • Patent number: 7856028
Abstract: A system, method and apparatus for reducing a power consumed by a physical layer device (PHY). A length of a cable connecting the PHY to a link partner is determined. Based on the length, power provided to one or more components of the PHY, or any portion thereof, is reduced. The power provided is reduced while maintaining a level of reliability specified by a protocol governing operation of the PHY. The length can be determined using time-domain reflectometry (TDR) techniques. Any portion of an echo cancellation filter, a crosstalk filter, an equalizer, a precoder, an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), a digital-to-analog converter (DAC), a forward error correction (FEC) decoder and/or an FEC coder can be powered-down or power-optimized to reduce the overall power consumed by the PHY. The protocol governing operation of the PHY can be IEEE 802.3.

  • Patent number: 7852790
Abstract: The present invention provides a communication master station startup period control method of being able to securely prevent malfunction of a PLC system, even if at least two communication master stations are connected to the PLC system which permits only one communication master station on the network. After the startup, when it is determined that the communication master stations exist redundantly by a master plurality determination process performed in advance of a link establishment process, the transition to a predetermined master plurality avoidance process is made without making the transition to the link establishment process. Further, when it is determined that the communication master stations exist redundantly by the master plurality determination process performed in parallel with the link establishment process, the transition to the predetermined master plurality avoidance process is made without making the transition to an operation state.

  • Patent number: 7852746
Abstract: Techniques for efficiently transmitting various types of signaling on the forward and reverse links in an OFDM-based system are described. Instead of specifically allocating subbands to individual signaling channels, signaling data for a signaling channel on a given link is sent as “underlay” to other transmissions that may be sent on the same link. Each wireless terminal is assigned a different PN code. The signaling data for each terminal is spectrally spread over all or a portion of the system bandwidth using the assigned PN code. For the reverse link, a wireless terminal may transmit signaling on all N usable subbands and may transmit traffic data on L subbands assigned for data transmission, which may be a subset of the N usable subbands. For the forward link, a base station may transmit signaling and traffic data for all terminals on the N usable subbands.

  • Patent number: 7843970
Abstract: A technique for detecting a physical random access channel (PRACH) signal includes demasking a received signal with a demasking signal. In this case, the demasking removes a PRACH root index component from the received signal. A fast Fourier transform is performed on the demasked received signal to provide a time-domain signal. At least three peaks of the time-domain signal from all antennas are then power combined. Finally, a determination is made as to whether a preamble index for the PRACH signal matches a known preamble index based on an output power of the time-domain signal at the at least three peaks.

  • Patent number: 7843848
Abstract: In a method for measuring round trip time (RTT), an RTT measurement packet is transmitted to a destination node. The RTT from transmission of the RTT measurement packet to reception of a response from the destination node is measured to determine if the RTT is greater than a predetermined time period. If the RTT is greater than the predetermined time period, an RTT measurement packet is repeatedly retransmitted at a different time interval and the RTT is remeasured until either the RTT measurement packet has been transmitted a predetermined number of times or the RTT is not greater than the predetermined time period.

  • Patent number: 7835294
Abstract: A message filtering method makes use of a database in which domain names of a network, such as the Internet, are associated with IP addresses, or with geographic locations. Electronic messages are tested for authenticity by comparing domain names and IP addresses for a message being tested with information in the database. If the sender information in the message does not have the same associations as information in the database, the message may be blocked, flagged as spam, or subjected to further filtering.

  • Patent number: 7830865
Abstract: A method for providing supplementary services in a packet voice network. The method includes the steps of receiving a list of information elements from a sending station and then inserting the list into a call control message. The message is inserted in such a manner as to ensure that any supplementary services information included in the information elements is preserved. In addition locally significant messages are included in a globally significant message so any supplementary services information in the locally significant messages is preserved. After the supplementary services information is preserved, the messages are sent to a receiving station. A network device operable to provide this functionality is also discussed.

  • Patent number: 7832009
Abstract: Techniques for detecting and responding to attacks on computer and network systems including denial-of-service (DoS) attacks. A packet is classified as potentially being an attack packet if it matches an access control list (ACL) specifying one or more conditions. One or more actions may be performed responsive to packets identified as potential attack packets. These actions may include dropping packets identified as potential attack packets for a period of time, rate limiting a port over which the potential attack packets are received for a period of time, and other actions.

  • Patent number: 7830917
Abstract: A radio LSI is provided that is not to cause a delay in sending acknowledgement data. A latch circuit provided in a sending/receiving section latches frame control information out of data being received. A decoder decodes the frame control information to decode a data length and structure of an address field. Furthermore, a latch circuit latches the address-field data of the reception data according to the decoded address-field information. A comparing circuit compares a content of a register entered with an address of the opposite-of-communication completely prepared data to be sent, with a source address of the data being received, to determine a setting/resetting of frame pending in acknowledgement data. A content of the determination is sent to a data-link section. This provides information required for acknowledgement data before completely receiving data, thus eliminating the possibility to cause a delay in sending acknowledgement data.
