Abstract: Methods and apparatus for monitoring video games are disclosed. Example video game monitors disclosed herein include a network analyzer to communicatively couple with a communication interface of a video game console, the network analyzer to detect communication packets transferred over the communication interface of the video game console. Disclosed example video game monitors also include a processor to decode the communication packets detected by the network analyzer to determine an identity of a game being played by the video game console, and report the identity of the game to a data collection facility.

Abstract: According to one configuration, a monitor resource monitors conveyance of content streaming over a shared communication link between a server resource and a communication device, the communication device requesting segments of the content from a manifest file. Monitoring as described herein can include intercepting and inspecting data packets associated with conveyance of the content over the shared communication link. An analyzer resource analyzes bandwidth attributes of streaming the content over the shared communication link. Based on the attributes of streaming the content (such as bandwidth, adaptive bit rate, etc.) over the shared communication link, the monitor resource generates a report indicating a link quality provided to the communication device via the shared communication link conveying the stream of content.

Abstract: A video packaging and origination service can process requests for content segments from requesting user devices. The video packaging and origination service can receive multiple inputs from content sources and determine events in the depictions of the inputs. The video packaging and origination service can generate content streams from the detected events.

Abstract: The disclosed computer-implemented method may include (1) receiving, at a computing device, a compressed video bitstream that includes (A) video data and (B) in-band metadata that indicates a video quality of the compressed video bitstream, (2) extracting, at the computing device, the in-band metadata from the compressed video bitstream, (3) determining, based at least in part on the in-band metadata, the video quality of the compressed video bitstream, and then (4) making at least one video-processing decision in connection with the compressed video bitstream based at least in part on the video quality of the compressed video bitstream. An image display device for providing broadcast program information including a communication interface, a memory storing one or more instructions, and a processor configured to execute the one or more instructions stored in the memory. The one or more instructions may cause the processor to obtain electronic program guide (EPG) information about a broadcast program through the communication interface, obtain metadata about the broadcast program, compare the EPG information with the metadata, and based on identifying that the broadcast program indicated by the EPG information and the broadcast program indicated by the metadata are inconsistent (do not match), regenerate the broadcast program information to be provided to a user, based on the EPG information, and cause a display to display the regenerated broadcast program information on the display.

Abstract: A system and method for providing additional information associated with an object visually present in media content when interacted with by a user on a user device is disclosed. An authoring tool imports media content at a default resolution and the media content is scaled so that the authoring tool and media content have a 1:1 correspondence for a coordinate grid to create interactive elements. The interactive elements are defined by element parameters. A portable package is created and distributed that includes the default resolution and element parameters. A request is received from the user device for the portable package along with device information. The portable package and the media content are delivered to the user device based on the request. A selection event is received and the element parameters are scaled based on the device information to determine if the selection event corresponds to the interactive element.

Abstract: An audience measurement service may monitor broadcasts in a region, ingesting closed captioning data, metadata, displayed text or logos, performing facial recognition on people, and/or generating audio/video fingerprints of broadcast content to create a database of content and associated keywords, along with times at which the content was broadcast. The audience measurement service may receive user search queries from a search provider and detect “spiking” queries. The audience measurement service may determine whether the spiking queries are related, contextually and temporally, to an item of content identified in the database, and infer that users generating the queries likely viewed the item of content. In some implementations, the audience measurement service may also infer that the users likely viewed other items of content (e.g. advertisements) displayed during the prior or subsequent few minutes on the same broadcast channel as the query-triggering item.

Abstract: A personal base station (PBS) having wireless video capability. The PBS authenticates a mobile device within range for cellular services, and authenticates the user for a level of service for cable television. The PBS operates in accordance with a dual-purpose subscriber identity system (SIS) includes a subscriber mobile identity component (SMIC) and a video security component (VSC) such that the cellular and television services can be authenticated. Mobile devices incorporating the disclosed innovations, as well as the PBS, can access video content from a cable television provider through any available broadband link, regardless of the mobile device's physical location.

Abstract: Despite the massive advances in digital electronics, telecommunications networks, and electronic devices in the past 20 years our engagement with video content is essentially unchanged to that of the first video recorders as it is merely where we access it and upon what we access it that have changed. It is still a passive experience. Accordingly, it would be beneficial to provide multimedia content that facilitates user engagement and transactions directly through their viewing of the multimedia content in shareable multimedia content elements. Such engagement and transactions may be accessing additional informational content linked to specific elements within the multimedia content or triggering the purchase of an item contained within the multimedia content. Embodiments of the invention may support monetization, analytics, secondary multimedia content, website functionality and micro-websites.

Abstract: A geolocationing system and method for providing awareness in a multi-space environment, such as a hospitality environment or educational environment, are presented. In one embodiment of the geolocationing system, a vertical and horizontal array of gateway devices is provided. Each gateway device includes a gateway device identification providing an accurately-known fixed location within the multi-space environment. Each gateway device includes a wireless transceiver that receives a beacon signal from a proximate wireless-enabled personal locator device. The gateway devices, in turn, send gateway signals to a server, which determines estimated location of the wireless-enabled personal locator device.
