  • Patent number: 5711677
Abstract: A multi-functional I/O card guide snap mounts to a mother board and houses a slidably removable I/O card for interfacing the I/O card with the mother board. The card guide includes a snap mountable daughter card for bridging the connection between the I/O card and the mother board. The card guide serves as a guide for accurately and easily slidably interfacing the I/O card with the daughter card, and serves as a connector for interfacing the I/O card and daughter card with the mother board. The card guide provides alignment accuracy between the I/O card and the interfacing daughter card connector because of a short tolerance path therebetween and inherent coplanar accuracy. Advantageously, no custom parts are required like conventional high rise connectors, and no extra mounting space or hardware is required like conventional backplane connector systems.

  • Patent number: 5709562
Abstract: A sealed ZIF connector for mating to a complementary connector with an internal PCB is for use with non-gold-plated terminals for a cost effective design. Such a connector may be for use in an automobile, for connection to a motor management electronics module. The connector is provided with a pivotable camming member having an oval camming surface positioned between contact arms of the terminals. In the pre-mated condition the camming surface spreads the terminal contact arms apart and the connectors can be coupled until the end of the PCB is almost against the camming surface. Upon rotation of the camming mechanism, the cam releases the contacts which bias against the PCB, whereby the cam subsequently abuts the end of the PCB to slightly separate the connectors. Separation of the connectors causes a wiping action between the contacts and the PCB to clean the surfaces from oxidation layers. The latter thus allows use of tin plated contacts for ZIF connectors.

  • Patent number: 5704802
Abstract: A modular jack assembly includes a housing having a plug-receiving cavity and an LED assembly attached atop the plug receiving cavity. In a preferred embodiment, the LED assembly is integrally formed with the housing. The LEDs are encased within the LED assembly, being separated from the plug-receiving cavity by a partition. This isolation of the LED helps to minimize the coupling of EMF interference radiated by the leads of the LED while they are operating to the underlying contact pins. Contact pins disposed within the plug-receiving cavity each have a contacting portion which extends along the roof of the cavity. The contacting portions have a varying measure of separation from the roof along their extent. This provides further separation from the LED leads which are disposed above the contact pins in the LED assembly, further lessening the EMF coupling with the LED leads. In an alternate embodiment, the modular jack has a stacked form factor and can be ganged to form a bank of modular jacks.
