  • Patent number: 9191178
Abstract: Embodiments of an enhanced Node B (eNB) and method for RRC connection establishment for small-data transfers in a 3GPP LTE network are generally described herein. The eNB may receive a small-data RRC connection request message from user equipment (UE) that may include an establishment clause value indicating small-data traffic either with or without mobility. The eNB may send an initial UE setup request message to inform the mobility management entity (MME) that a small-data RRC connection is being established. The eNB may receive an acceptance message from the MME for the small-data RRC connection which may include a reduction of an RRC inactivity timer for fast connection release. The eNB may send an RRC connection reconfiguration message to the UE in response to receipt of the acceptance to establish the small-data RRC connection, the RRC connection reconfiguration message including a measurement information element (IE) when mobility is to be supported.

  • Patent number: 9172726
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for allowing IP endpoints to communicate over a PSTN with improved signal quality. Watermarks are used in the handshaking between the end-points when a communication session is being established, the watermarks indicating that the endpoints are capable of VoIP. If the two end-points establish that they are each VoIP-capable then packet data is inserted into a TDM channel using a framing technique managed by the gateways, with the bearer data being native to the VoIP devices, avoiding the lossy conversion of packet-voice data to 64 kb/s PCM and back to packet data again, realizing that the other end-point will be able to decode the data. If an IP-enabled endpoint determines that the other endpoint is not IP-enabled, then the data is inserted into the TDM channel by the gateway after conversion to 64 kb/s PCM so that the resulting TDM stream remains compatible with the PSTN and non-IP endpoints.

  • Patent number: 9173213
Abstract: The present invention relates to providing control information within a search space for blind decoding in a multi-carrier communication system. In particular, the control information is carried within a sub-frame of the communication system, the sub-frame including a plurality of control channel elements. The control channel elements may be aggregated into candidates for blind decoding. The number of control channel elements in a candidate is called aggregation level. In accordance with the present invention, the candidates of lower aggregation levels are localized, meaning that the control channel elements of one candidate are located adjacently to each other in the frequency domain. Some candidates of the higher aggregation level(s) are distributed in the frequency.

  • Patent number: 9137284
Abstract: A network device includes a receiving device, a detector, and a circuit. The receiving device receives a first signal. The first signal includes first and second packets. The first packets correspond to intervals of the first signal containing voice activity. The second packets correspond to intervals of the first signal not containing voice activity. The detector detects the first packets and generates an indication signal identifying the first packets. The circuit, based on the indication signal, inserts a bit in either each of the first packets and not the second packets or each of the second packets and not the first packets. The bit inserted into each of the first packets or the second packets indicates which of the packets in the first signal correspond to intervals of the first signal containing voice activity.

  • Patent number: 9137144
Abstract: A manner of selecting communication traffic paths through a LAN, WAN, or similar communication network. Traffic received at a source bridge is forwarded to a destination bridge along a communication path selected from a plurality of possible, preferably EHEC paths. The paths may be discovered by a breadth first search and stored in a path selection table in association with a sequential index number. The paths are selected, for example by assigning a path to a VLAN by determining V mod N, comparing the result to indices on a path selection table that associates an unique index with each of the plurality of communication paths, and selecting the path associated with an index equal to the result, wherein N is the number of paths in the plurality of paths and V is a group identifier. The selected paths may be stored in the path selection table in association with the respective VLAN, and any received traffic for that VLAN is forwarded along the selected path.
