  • Patent number: 8155099
Abstract: A method of operating wireless devices includes providing a plurality of sender nodes each having a respective message to wirelessly send to a receiver node. A probability distribution is assigned to a plurality of frequency channels such that a respective probability of selection is assigned to each frequency channel. At least two of the probabilities of selection are unequal. A respective frequency channel is probabilistically selected for each of the sender nodes according to the probability distribution. The messages are wirelessly sent from the sender nodes to the receiver node in the selected frequency channels. The receiver node is used to sample a first one of the frequency channels and a second one of the frequency channels. The second frequency channel has a higher respective probability of selection than the first frequency channel.

  • Patent number: 8130654
Abstract: Embodiments of a communication system, a method, and a device for use with the communication system are described. Communication between the devices in the communication system may be enabled by the method. In particular, nodes or devices (henceforth referred to as devices) in a network (such as an ad-hoc network) in the communication system may exchange a dynamic network context via communication with neighboring devices. These devices may use the dynamic network context to determine how network resources are shared during the communication, including performing context-aware packet switching of packets (including data packets) in an information flow.

  • Patent number: 8130721
Abstract: A radio resource control (RRC) message is received by a radio resource control (RRC) device of a user equipment (UE). The RRC message notifies the FDD UE of a high speed dedicated shared channel (HS-DSCH) inter-Node B cell change. A reordering buffers of a medium access controller-high speed (MAC-hs) is flushed in response to the receiving the RRC message. A status report is generated for each acknowledge mode (AM) RLC instance mapped to the HS-DSCH by a radio link control (RLC) device after the MAC-hs flushes the reordering buffer. Each status report indicates missing AM RLC packet data units (PDUs). The RRC device sends a “TRANSPORT CHANNEL RECONFIGURATION COMPLETE” message on a DCCH after the RLC device generates each status report.

  • Patent number: 8130762
Abstract: Distributed assembly of data packets into messages at a group of interface devices that receive data packets from within a coverage area. Each interface device in the group will take ownership of a sequence of data packets forming a message when a data packet of the message meeting predetermined criteria is received by that interface device. Once an interface device takes ownership of a sequence of data packets, it sends a request to the other interface devices for any missing data packets of the sequence that the ownership claiming interface does not have, and then assembles message upon receiving all the data packets of the sequence.

  • Patent number: 8121126
Abstract: The invention is directed towards techniques for forwarding subscriber frames through a Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) aggregation network using MPLS labels. Layer two (L2) network devices, such as access nodes, of a service provider (SP) network implement MPLS functionality in the data plane, but do not implement an MPLS signaling protocol in the control plane. The L2 network devices include an interface for configuring a static pool of labels applied in the data plane of the L2 network device to output MPLS communications to the MPLS network. The access nodes may be configured by an administrator to maintain static pools of subscriber labels and MPLS labels. The access nodes autonomously allocate the subscriber labels to subscriber devices that request broadband services from a Broadband Services Router (BSR), and distribute the subscriber labels and MPLS labels as upstream assigned labels.

  • Patent number: 8107498
Abstract: Disclosed is a technique in which, when a plurality of packet routing paths exist, a sender of the packet selects an optimum packet length so as to use network resources effectively. According to the technique, when a plurality of routing paths like a network A (104) and a network B (105) exist for a packet transmitted from a data transmitting apparatus (103) to a data receiving apparatus (102) via a network relay apparatus (101), the network relay apparatus or the data receiving apparatus searches path MTU information of each path, and notifies the data transmitting apparatus of multipath MTU information including each search result. The data transmitting apparatus refers to this multipath MTU information to compare the plurality of paths about their path MTU information to decide a packet length suitable for the packet transmitted to the data receiving apparatus.

  • Patent number: 8094659
Abstract: A method for increasing resolution of virtual router assignment in a computer network. An incoming packet may be parsed to obtain its source and destination IP addresses. With the obtained IP addresses, and in some cases other information about the packet, a classification engine may perform a multi-field classification in a memory such as a TCAM (Ternary Content-Addressable Memory). The classification result may point to an action entry in an action table in a memory, e.g., an SRAM (Static random access memory). The action entry may indicate policy-based setting of the virtual router, and the VRF-ID. A virtual router is then assigned according to the VRF-ID. A group based classification in layer 3 of the present invention may avoid using a table to define segregation policies between hosts pair by pair.

  • Patent number: 8089959
Abstract: A method for scheduling cell transmissions through a switch with rate and delay guarantees and with low jitter is proposed. The method applies to a classic input-buffered N×N crossbar switch without speedup. The time axis is divided into frames each containing F time-slots. An N×N traffic rate matrix specifies a quantized guaranteed traffic rate from each input port to each output port. The traffic rate matrix is transformed into a permutation with NF elements which is decomposed into F permutations of N elements using a recursive and fair decomposition method. Each permutation is used to configure the crossbar switch for one time-slot within a frame of size F time-slots, and all F permutations result in a Frame Schedule. In the frame schedule, the expected Inter-Departure Time (IDT) between cells in a flow equals the Ideal IDT and the delay jitter is bounded and small.
