    Abstract: A method for the treatment of a subterranean formation penetrated by a well in which, first and second flow paths are established from the wellhead into the vicinity of the formation. A plugging fluid comprising a suspension of a particulate plugging agent in a carrier liquid is circulated into the first flow path and into contact with the wall of the well within the subterranean formation. The carrier liquid is separated from the particulate plugging agent by circulating the carrier liquid through a set of openings leading to the second flow path, which are dimensioned to allow the passage of the carrier liquid while retaining the particulate plugging agent in contact with the set of openings. The circulation of the plugging fluid continues until the particulate plugging agent accumulates to form a bridge packing within the well.

The preferred system operates automatically without any manual intervention in well control processes.

The method selects a suitable property for which values over a plurality of wellbore depths can be correlated with the characteristics or behavior of the pore pressure in the earth formation. The method further includes conducting an NMR measurement at a plurality of wellbore depths, thereby generating an NMR response from the drilling environment. The measured values of the NMR parameter in the NMR response are then correlated with values of the suitable property.

    Abstract: A liner for an annular downhole component is comprised of an expandable metal tube having indentations along its surface. The indentations are formed in the wall of the tube either by drawing the tube through a die, by hydroforming, by stamping, or roll forming and may extend axially, radially, or spirally along its wall. The indentations accommodate radial and axial expansion of the tube within the downhole component. The tube is inserted into the annular component and deformed to match an inside surface of the component. The tube may be expanded using a hydroforming process or by drawing a mandrel through the tube. The tube may be expanded in such a manner so as to place it in compression against the inside wall of the component. The tube is useful for improving component hydraulics, shielding components from contamination, inhibiting corrosion, and preventing wear to the downhole component during use. It may also be useful for positioning conduit and insulated conductors within the component.

    Abstract: A sealing apparatus for sealing an annulus between a mandrel and an outer tubular. The apparatus comprises a top seal ring and a bottom seal ring separated by a double-ramped cylinder, all mounted on the mandrel and fit within the inner diameter of the outer tubular. The sealing apparatus is placed on the mandrel in running in position. The mandrel and sealing apparatus are then placed downhole in the outer tubular. Once at the desired location, a load is applied to the top seal ring. Once the load reaches a predetermined magnitude, the ramp slides under and expands the bottom seal ring to form a pressure-tight seal with the outer tubular. Additional load placed on the top seal ring causes the top seal ring to slide over the ramp and expand. As the top seal ring expands, the top seal ring forms a pressure-tight seal with the outer tubular.

    Abstract: In general, a method is provided for completing a subterranean wellbore, and an apparatus for using the method. The method comprises positioning an expandable sand-control device in the wellbore thereby forming an annulus between the sand-control device and the wellbore; depositing a filter media in the annulus; and after the depositing step, radially expanding the sand-control device to decrease the volume of the annulus. The sand-control device can be a sand screen or slotted or perforated liner having radially extending passageways in the walls thereof, the passageways designed to substantially prevent movement of the particulate material through the passageways and into the sand-control device. Where a slotted liner is desired, the passageways can be plugged during positioning and later unplugged for production.
