  • Patent number: 8613587
Abstract: A rotor assembly for a turbine includes a substantially enclosed, cylindrical outer housing that is shaped to define an interior cavity into which a rotor is disposed. The rotor includes a main rotatable shaft in coaxial alignment with the outer housing and a plurality of pivotable blades, each blade being connected to the shaft by upper and lower spokes. In use, fluid flow enters into the interior cavity through a selectively enclosable inlet port in the outer housing, applies force to blades within the primary fluid flow path which causes the main shaft to rotate, and exits the interior cavity though a selectively enclosable outlet port in the outer housing. As the main shaft rotates within the outer housing, a control mechanism maintains each blade in a position of limited resistance when located outside the primary fluid flow path in order to maximize efficiency.

  • Patent number: 8614606
Abstract: An electrical, magnetic or electromagnetic delay line self oscillator is described with a delay line arrangement, an oscillator control circuitry, and a frequency selection impedance connecting the delay line arrangement and the oscillator control circuitry and presenting an impedance to the delay line arrangement. The oscillator control circuitry includes an amplifier, a non linear amplitude control element (N-LACE) such as an active device with a negative differential conductance that provides an output amplitude has a negative second derivative with respect to an input signal, and a driver. The modal characteristics of electromagnetic delay lines can thus be exploited across a wide range of instrumentation applications, and a means is provided to enhance the achievable functionality and/or performance of the instrumentation without the need for expensive additional electrical hardware or electronics.

  • Publication number: 20130339117
Abstract: A system and method allows a consumer to gift an incentive and/or offer to a recipient, which can be applied to a transaction conducted by the recipient. The incentives are given and redeemed without requiring issuance or utilization of a gift card that is distinct from payment instruments (such as a debit or credit card) utilized by the recipient prior to receiving the incentive. Instead, the monetary value of the incentive given by the purchaser is transferred from an account owned by the purchaser to an intermediate account owned by a third party. When the recipient redeems the incentive, the monetary value of the incentive is automatically transferred from the intermediate account to an account owned by the recipient. In this manner, the purchaser does not have to give either a physical or virtual incentive card and hence, the incentive is not subject to gift card regulations.

  • Publication number: 20130333835
Abstract: Hybrid inorganic-organic, polymeric alloys are prepared by combining atomic layer deposition and molecular layer deposition techniques provide barrier protection against intrusion of atmospheric gases such as oxygen and water vapor. The alloy may be formed either directly on objects to be protected, or on a carrier substrate to form a barrier structure that subsequently may be employed to protect an object. • Publication number: 20130336216
Abstract: A structured wireless mesh network is disclosed where a tree-like connection topology is formed. In one embodiment, each node has separate uplink and downlink radios operating on different channels. When a cluster of such nodes becomes isolated as in the case of a mobile mesh application, a node in the cluster according to this invention acts as a root node thus enabling the tree structure to persist, even in isolation. Example methods of joining sub networks are disclosed that guide the joining of mesh networks and channel management. Nodes that may operate in isolation also support a distributed DHCP capability such that IP addresses are assigned to clients even when a connection to a central DHCP server is unavailable.

  • Publication number: 20130333336
Abstract: A vacuum and sealing appliance comprises a heat sealing element for sealing a container during a sealing cycle. A controller controls the temperature of the heat sealing element during the sealing cycle based on a signal from a temperature sensor that senses the real-time temperature of the heat sealing element. A seal indicator light is provided which is lighted during the sealing cycle and extinguished at its completion. The signal from the controller energizes the heating element for a time to heat the sealing element to a pre-determined temperature for sealing the container and initiates a dwell time corresponding to cooling the heating element after sealing the container. Values of the real-time temperatures of the heat sealing element and values of the sealing times and the dwell times that correspond to the values of the real-time temperatures of the heat sealing element are stored in a look-up table.
