  • Patent number: 9989011
Abstract: A bypass housing receives a fan and defines a front end. An airflow path delivers air into an inlet duct over a limited circumferential extent of the bypass housing. An airflow path passes across a low pressure compressor rotor. An airflow path passes through a core engine, which includes a high pressure compressor rotor, a combustor, and a high pressure turbine rotor. Products of combustion downstream of the high pressure turbine rotor pass into an intermediate duct and then across a low pressure turbine rotor. The low pressure turbine rotor is positioned closer to the front end of the engine than is the high pressure turbine rotor. The low pressure turbine rotor is positioned axially intermediate the low pressure compressor rotor and the fan. The low pressure turbine rotor drives both the fan and the low pressure turbine rotor. An aircraft is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20180151026
Abstract: A plurality of virtual instant tickets are loaded onto a memory of a microprocessor that is physically provided to the consumer. The consumer is physically given a small object, such as a bank card or hotel room key card that has the microprocessor embedded therein. The memory of the microprocessor includes a validation number of each virtual instant ticket, and the winning or losing outcome of each virtual instant ticket and the value of any winning outcome. A purchase is made to unlock a portion of the virtual instant tickets, thereby allowing that portion of tickets to be played. The consumer uses a computing device that interacts with the microprocessor to play the tickets and informs the consumer of the outcome. Additional virtual instant tickets may be unlocked with subsequent purchases. The memory of the microprocessor is updated to indicate the one or more virtual instant tickets that were successfully played.

  • Publication number: 20180148862
Abstract: The present invention relates to a polyamide fiber with enhanced dyeing properties. The polyamide fiber is suitable for low-temperature dyeing and shorter dyeing cycle. The present invention also discloses a method for obtaining such a fiber. The polyamide fiber is obtained by blending at least a polyamide 5.X, X being an integer from 4 to 16 with an aliphatic polyamide during the melt-spinning extrusion of the polyamide fiber. The blended polyamide fiber and articles made therefrom can be dyed at a lower temperature than the usual boiling temperature, and the dyeing time is half of the time of a normal dyeing cycle. The dyed polyamide fiber and article also show enhanced fastness to washing and perspiration.

  • Publication number: 20180149036
Abstract: A gas turbine engine includes a gear system that provides a speed reduction between a fan drive turbine and a fan rotor. Aspects of the gear system are provided with some flexibility. The fan drive turbine has a first exit area and rotates at a first speed. A second turbine section has a second exit area and rotates at a second speed, which is faster than said first speed. A performance quantity can be defined for both turbine sections as the products of the respective areas and respective speeds squared. A performance quantity ratio of the performance quantity for the fan drive turbine to the performance quantity for the second turbine section is relatively high.

  • Publication number: 20180150080
Abstract: Systems and method are provided for controlling a vehicle. In one embodiment, a method includes defining a region of interest and an intended path of the vehicle based on sensor data, and determining a set of predicted paths of one or more objects likely to intersect the region of interest within a planning horizon. The method further includes defining, within a spatiotemporal path space associated with the region of interest and the planning horizon, a set of obstacle regions corresponding to the set of predicted paths. Decision points for each of the obstacle regions are determined, and a directed graph is defined based on the plurality of decision points and a cost function applied to a set of path segments interconnecting the decision points. The directed graph is then searched to determine a selected path.
