  • Patent number: 9893519
Abstract: A substrate is physically attached to the terminals of multiple different power sources. The substrate includes multiple electrical conductors. Each of the electrical conductors is immobilized along its length relative to the substrate. The electrical conductors include interconnect lines and sensing lines. The interconnect lines provide electrical communication between the power sources. At least one of the sensing lines carries an electrical signal indicating a voltage across one or more of the power sources. Electronics that are immobilized on the substrate employ the electrical signal to determine the voltage across the one or more power sources.

  • Patent number: 9893224
Abstract: A system and method of patterning dopants of opposite polarity to form a solar cell is described. Two dopant films are deposited on a substrate. A laser is used to pattern the N-type dopant, by mixing the two dopant films into a single film with an exposure to the laser and/or drive the N-type dopant into the substrate to form an N-type emitter. A thermal process drives the P-type dopant from the P-type dopant film to form P-type emitters and further drives the N-type dopant from the single film to either form or further drive the N-type emitter.

  • Patent number: 9893222
Abstract: Solar cells having a plurality of sub-cells coupled by metallization structures, and singulation approaches to forming solar cells having a plurality of sub-cells coupled by metallization structures, are described. In an example, a solar cell, includes a plurality of sub-cells, each of the sub-cells having a singulated and physically separated semiconductor substrate portion. Adjacent ones of the singulated and physically separated semiconductor substrate portions have a groove there between. The solar cell also includes a monolithic metallization structure. A portion of the monolithic metallization structure couples ones of the plurality of sub-cells. The groove between adjacent ones of the singulated and physically separated semiconductor substrate portions exposes a portion of the monolithic metallization structure.

  • Patent number: 9892525
Abstract: Technologies for modifying a digital image to take on the appearance of an antique image. Such modifying is typically based on generating and rendering various effects that are blended with the input image, such as color transformation, simulating film grain, dust, fibers, tears, and vintage borders. Such effects may be rendered to various layers that are overlaid on a color transformed image resulting in what appears to be an antique image.

  • Patent number: 9890242
Abstract: A polyester, including ethylene 2,5-furandicarboxylate units, has an intrinsic viscosity of at least 0.45 d L/g, and has a relative content of carboxylic acid end groups, expressed as the fraction of the molar amount of carboxylic acid end groups divided by the sum of the molar amounts of hydroxyl end groups and carboxylic acid end groups in the range of 0.10 to 0.70. The polyester can be prepared with a method wherein a starting mixture comprising 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid and ethylene glycol is subjected to esterification and subsequent polycondensation at reduced pressure when the molar ratio of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid to ethylene glycol in the starting mixture is 1:1.01 to 1:1.15, where water, that is formed during the reaction between 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid and ethylene glycol, and some ethylene glycol are removed in a distillation system, and where ethylene glycol that is removed with water, is separated from water and at least partly recycled.

  • Patent number: 9892133
Abstract: A system that verifies the attributes included in the description of an item using artificial intelligence is provided. For example, the system may use a feature extractor to identify color, shape, and/or texture features of a provided image. The system may then use a linear classifier to process the extracted features to identify attributes of the item depicted in the image. The system may compare the identified attributes with the attributes listed in the item's description. If there are any discrepancies, the system may revise the item description to include the identified attributes or provide suggested revisions to a user based on the identified attributes.

  • Publication number: 20180038159
Abstract: A position sensing system and method for detecting the displacement of a door from a reference position, such as, for example, from a closed position. The system includes a magnetometer that may be operably connected to the door, and which measures positional location relative to a reference magnetic field, such as, for example, a magnetic field provided by a magnet of a lock device. The system may also include an accelerometer that detects acceleration of the door, and thereby provides an indication of when location is to be measured by the magnetometer. Measurement information from the magnetometer is used to derive a position indicator that is compared to a reference indicator, the reference indicator being associated with the reference position. Differences between the position and reference indicators may provide an indication that the door has been moved from the reference position.
