Patent number: 9198990Abstract: A sanitizing system uses ultraviolet light within a housing having an interior chamber. When items such as shopping carts or wheel chairs are moved into and out of the interior chamber, a cover is moved to reduce the light shining out of the housing. The cover is coordinated with the door of the housing to limit light shining on the users of the system. In another configuration, a switch is used to turn off the light source to reduce the light shining out of the housing when items such as shopping carts or wheel chairs are moved into and out of the interior chamber. In both of the systems described above, the sanitizing system may use a single sanitizing source such as a UV light source or a combination of sanitizing systems such as a UV light source in combination with a source of disinfecting plasma.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2013Date of Patent: December 1, 2015Inventors: W. J. Hays, Doris M. Hays

Publication number: 20150329816Abstract: A bioreactor system includes a sample chamber capable of receiving a specimen and a cover which can be placed on the chamber to enclose the specimen within the chamber. A first member is movable between (i) a closed position in which the member restricts the cover from being moved away from the chamber in a first direction, and (ii) an open position in which the member does not restrict the cover from being moved away from the chamber. When the first member is in the closed position there is a substantially liquid proof seal between the cover and the chamber.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 14, 2014Publication date: November 19, 2015Applicant: TA INSTRUMENTS-WATERS L.L.C.Inventors: Aaron M. Owens, Stefanie Vawn Biechler, David Louis Dingmann, Charles W. Groepper, Thomas M. Hays, Chrysanthi Williams

Publication number: 20140348798Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel RNA picornavirus that is called Seneca Valley virus (“SVV”). The invention provides isolated SVV nucleic acids and proteins encoded by these nucleic acids. Further, the invention provides antibodies that are raised against the SVV proteins. Because SVV has the ability to selectively kill some types of tumors, the invention provides methods of using SVV and SVV polypeptides to treat cancer. Because SVV specifically targets certain tumors, the invention provides methods of using SVV nucleic acids and proteins to detect cancer. Additionally, due to the information provided by the tumor-specific mechanisms of SVV, the invention provides methods of making new oncolytic virus derivatives and of altering viruses to have tumor-specific tropisms.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2014Publication date: November 27, 2014Applicant: NOVARTIS AGInventors: Paul L. HALLENBECK, Seshidhar Reddy POLICE, Laura M. HALES, Carl M. HAY, Shanthi GANESH, Ling XU, Jingping YANG, Cheng CHENG

Publication number: 20140326126Abstract: A novel impact and blast resistant window is presented. A surface of a glazing pane has a durable transparent polymer film coated or adhered thereto. The surface of the window pane having the film is sealed to the sash by double sided tape. The resulting window produces an unexpected ability for the durable transparent polymer film to retain pieces of broken glass driven toward the interior of the building by a missile striking an exterior of the window, without the durable transparent polymer film pulling loose from the window sash.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 18, 2014Publication date: November 6, 2014Inventors: Henry M. Hay, III, Craig B. Duncan, Bruce A. Weber

Patent number: 8863452Abstract: A storm trim for holding a panel over a window for protection against impact of objects carried by wind during a storm. The storm trim includes a lineal cap and a lineal base. The base may be used with a window frame, incorporated into a window frame or be used in glazing surrounds or shutters. The base carries a stacked screw boss to receive and securely hold the anchoring screws that are needed to hold the panel over the window. The anchoring screws do not extend through the lineal base but remain within it. When the storm trim is not in use, the cap covers the lineal base.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2013Date of Patent: October 21, 2014Assignee: Hawkes Design & Consulting, LLCInventors: Henry M. Patent number: 8789324Abstract: A novel impact and blast resistant window is presented. A surface of a window pane that is adjacent to an interior of a building has a durable transparent polymer film coated or adhered thereto. The surface of a window pane that is adjacent to an interior of a building is sealed to the sash by double sided tape. The resulting window produces an unexpected ability for the durable transparent polymer film to retain pieces of broken glass driven toward the interior of the building by a missile striking an exterior of the window, without the durable transparent polymer film pulling loose from the window sash.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2010Date of Patent: July 29, 2014Inventors: Henry M.
