  • Publication number: 20140167987
Abstract: A method of data compression includes obtaining a data set comprising a sequence of data blocks comprising a predetermined number of data items, partitioning said data set into one or more groups each comprising a predetermined number of data blocks, and performing data compression on one or more groups of data blocks. Data compression is performed by associating a control data item with each of said blocks, generating a control vector comprising the control data items assigned to each of said blocks within a group, removing data blocks comprising entirely data items having said specified value, compressing data blocks comprising at least one data item having a value different from said specified value using a fixed-rate compression scheme, providing a compressed data stream comprising said compressed data blocks, and providing an associated control vector stream to enable control of said compressed data stream.

  • Publication number: 20140170896
Abstract: Disclosed is an ECG electrode lead wire connector which provides improved electrical and mechanical coupling of the ECG electrode press stud to the lead wire, provides enhanced ergonomics to the clinician, and may alleviate patient discomfort associated with the attachment and removal of ECG leads. The connector may be engaged and disengaged with little or no force imparted to the patient or the ECG pad, which significantly minimizes the risk of inadvertent dislodgement of the pad. In one embodiment the disclosed connector provides a thumb cam lever which affirmatively engages the press stud to the connector, and provides tactile feedback to the clinician that the connector is properly engaged. In other embodiments, the connector provides a pushbutton to enable the clinician to easily engage and disengage the connector from the ECG stud. The disclosed connectors may also decrease clinician fatigue, and may provide more reliable ECG results.

  • Publication number: 20140173752
Abstract: In accordance with some embodiments, data may be automatically provided on preordained conditions for specific types of data. Thus specific types of data or specific requestors may be treated differently. The system may be programmed to respond appropriately to requests for certain types of data from certain types of requestors. This offloads the need to review specific requests in many cases and enables an automated system for providing requested data as appropriate.

  • Publication number: 20140173466
Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and software for facilitating conversation environments. In an implementation, a view of a conversation environment is presented that includes a conversation component within which to present communications exchanged during a conversation between a participants in the conversation. In response to a participant list gesture, the view is modified to include a list component presented over a portion of the conversation component. The list component may include contacts associated with the participants in the conversation. In response to a contact gesture corresponding to one of the contacts, the view is modified again to replace the list component with a contact component associated with the one of the contacts. In some implementations the view is a single window view within which the components are arranged.

  • Patent number: 8755604
Abstract: A system and method may include a processor that groups the glyphs of a document into font character models. OCR processing may be performed to identify the ASCII value of the font character models, with the results mapped to the glyphs contained with those models, thereby identifying the text of the original document. This results in fewer calls to an OCR engine, thereby providing a significant speedup. Further, when a model is assigned differing text values by the OCR engine, the system and method may identify the value most likely to be correct, thereby improving the accuracy of the output text.

  • Patent number: 8752448
Abstract: An actuating device for a technical system, especially for selecting gears of a shift-by-wire speed-change gear. The actuating device includes an actuating element (1), which is movable in relation to a base area (3), with at least two switching positions. At least one additional switching element (5), which acts on a signal transmission (8) with a signal transmitter (6), is arranged at the actuating element (1). The additional switching element (5) and the signal transmitter (8) are connected by a mechanical transmission element. However, the signal transmitter (6) is connected to the base area (3) of the actuating device. The present invention makes it possible to embody a robust additional switching element, which is protected from disturbances, at an actuating element. Mobile and hence susceptible cablings to the additional switching element, which were hitherto necessary, are eliminated.
