  • Patent number: 8131039
Abstract: A method for training a classifier for classifying candidate regions in computer aided diagnosis of digital medical images includes providing a training set of images, each image including one or more candidate regions that have been identified as suspicious by a computer aided diagnosis system. Each image has been manually annotated to identify malignant regions. Multiple instance learning is applied to train a classifier to classify suspicious regions in a new image as malignant or benign by identifying those candidate regions that overlap a same identified malignant region, grouping each candidate region that overlaps the same identified malignant region into a same bag, and maximizing a probability P = ? i = 1 N ? p i y i ? ( 1 - p i ) 1 - y i , wherein N is a number of bags, pi is a probability of bag i containing a candidate region that overlaps with an identified malignant region, and yi is a label where a value of 1 indicates malignancy and 0 otherwise.

  • Publication number: 20120049527
Abstract: A geothermal power generation system employs a primary power turbine & generator for power generation using geothermal heat provided by the geothermal resources pumped out of the production well, and a secondary power generation turbine & generator set for power generation using geothermal resources (such as water) being returned to the ground via the injection well. In some embodiments, the pressure of water is increased before it is pumped back into the injection well where it falls down through gravity (free falling gravity). Thus high pressure water (where water is pumped to high pressure) and/or geothermal water falling freely due to gravity (gravity free falling where water is released to fall by gravity) into the injection well is used to generate secondary power employing one or more micro-turbines that ate located (held by a chain or belt) inside the injection well.

  • Publication number: 20120048214
Abstract: A motor/damper assembly installable on the top end of a fuel-fired water heater includes a support plate structure upon which a flue collar with a pivotally supported flue damper, a drive motor, and a drive shaft interconnecting the motor damper are mounted. The assembly is installed by placing the collar over the upper end of the water heater flue, securing the support plate structure to the top end of the water heater, and positioning a top cover housing on the support plate structure. Using the assembly provides improved support rigidity and alignment for the motor and shaft relative to the damper, improved repeatable precise manufacturing placement of the motor and shaft, improved construction aesthetics, with the cover also protecting the shaft from shipping and handling damages.

  • Publication number: 20120050021
Abstract: A method for alerting a driver of an automotive vehicle (or other responsible party) to the presence or inferred presence of an object, a person, or a pet animal in rear seating rows of the vehicle. The open/closed condition of rear vehicle doors is monitored to determine whether the driver may have placed an object, child, or pet in the rear seating rows prior to the start of a drive-cycle, and an alert is generated at the end of the drive-cycle to remind the driver to check the rear seat. Sound detection and analysis may also be used to identify sounds characteristic of a human (a young child, for example) or a non-human animal (a pet, for example) and thereby verify that a child or pet is present.

  • Publication number: 20120054017
Abstract: A distribution system ensuring that the amount of renewable energy coupons distributed is correlated to and commensurate with the aggregate amount of renewable energy generated by the plurality of renewable energy generators. In general, the present invention makes it possible to securely authenticate a user and then permit renewable energy coupon purchases over the user's laptop or mobile phone. It makes it possible for power generation data to be aggregated across several renewable energy power generating companies (and their systems) and collectively provide renewable energy coupons to all their customers, wherein the amount of coupons issued are in correlation to the actual amount of electricity generated across all of the renewable energy power generating companies.

  • Publication number: 20120052565
Abstract: A cell culture article has substrate that is predominantly opaque and that provides a three-dimensional (e.g., irregular) surface, but incorporates an optically transparent, substantially regular (e.g., two-dimensional) surface to serve as a microscopic observation and imaging window for the 3D cell culture. In many embodiments, the 3D portion of the substrate occupies greater than 99% of the surface while the 2D portion occupies less than 1% of the surface so as not to substantially disrupt the general 3D culture environment.

  • Patent number: 8126814
Abstract: A method and system for installing software and hardware licenses on electronic devices supporting licensable features. Specifically, a method is disclosed for installing licenses in a node based licensing scheme. The electronic device defining the node receives an input containing an authorization key. The authorization comprises a license for a service feature, a node identifier, a software version, and a sequence number. Information in the authorization key is used to install the license on the electronic device. The node identifier is compared to an official node identifier stored at the electronic device. The sequence number is compared to an official sequence number stored at the electronic device. The license is installed into a pool of licenses available to the electronic device when the node identifier matches the official node identifier and the sequence number matches the official sequence number. The sequence number ensures that the authorization key at most can only be used once.
