  • Publication number: 20120072652
Abstract: A buffer manager that manages blocks of memory amongst multiple levels of buffer pools. For instance, there may be a first level buffer pool for blocks in first level memory, and a second level buffer pool for blocks in second level memory. The first level buffer pool evicts blocks to the second level buffer pool if the blocks are not used above a first threshold level. The second level buffer pool evicts blocks to a yet lower level if they have not used above a second threshold level. The first level memory may be dynamic random access memory, whereas the second level memory may be storage class memory, such as a solid state disk. By using such a storage class memory, the working block set of the buffer manager may be increased without resorting to lower efficiency random block access from yet lower level memory such as disk.

  • Patent number: 8140085
Abstract: A technique for a secondary communication system to utilize spectrum designated to another (or primary) communication system is provided. By ranking a plurality of secondary base stations based on base station transmit power, calculated required transmit power and path loss, a set of criteria is developed for selecting a highest ranked secondary base station for operation within a primary's spectrum. The ranking may be adapted based on mobility of the secondary's subscriber; and as such the secondary system communicates within the primary's spectrum using the adaptively ranked base stations. Channel selection may also be ranked. The technique and apparatus allows a cognitive radio (CR) network to operate within an incumbent network's spectrum.

  • Patent number: 8137333
Abstract: The delivery of biological compounds to ischemic and/or infarcted tissue are described herein where such a system may include a deployment catheter and an attached imaging hood deployable into an expanded configuration. In use, the imaging hood is placed against or adjacent to a region of tissue to be imaged in a body lumen that is normally filled with an opaque bodily fluid such as blood. A translucent or transparent fluid, such as saline, can be pumped into the imaging hood until the fluid displaces any blood, thereby leaving a clear region of tissue to be imaged via an imaging element in the deployment catheter. Additionally, any number of therapeutic tools can also be passed through the deployment catheter and into the imaging hood for performing any number of procedures on the tissue for identifying, locating, and/or accessing ischemic and/or infarcted tissue.

  • Patent number: 8138858
Abstract: The present invention relates to dual-mode SAW devices (DMSDs), which may allow for clean layouts of SAW device elements and provide low impedance with reduced insertion loss, and may increase broadband rejection by improving parasitic characteristics. In one embodiment of the present invention, a parallel set of DMSDs is cascaded with another parallel set of DMSDs. Internal connections between the four DMSDs may be electrically floating, which may further improve parasitic characteristics. With electrically floating internal connections, the parallel set of DMSDs may share a common grating structure, thereby reducing the size and complexity of a DMSD, which may further improve parasitic characteristics. The DMSDs may be used in radio frequency (RF) applications, such as SAW filters.
