  • Patent number: 7573578
Abstract: According to one embodiment, a micro-electrical mechanical system apparatus includes first and second mirrors that define a cavity. Moreover, a photonic band-gap structure coats a surface of at least one of the first or second mirrors to improve reflectivity. Another embodiment includes a third mirror, wherein the second and third mirrors form a second cavity. The spaces between the mirrors might comprise, for example, a pair of Fabry-Perot filter cavities for a spectrometer.

  • Publication number: 20090196338
Abstract: Architecture for enhancing the compression (e.g., luma, chroma) of a video signal and improving the perceptual quality of the video compression schemes. The architecture operates to reshape the normal multimodal energy distribution of the input video signal to a new energy distribution. In the context of luma, the algorithm maps the black and white (or contrast) information of a picture to a new energy distribution. For example, the contrast can be enhanced in the middle range of the luma spectrum, thereby improving the contrast between a light foreground object and a dark background. At the same time, the algorithm reduces the bit-rate requirements at a particular quantization step size. The algorithm can be utilized also in post-processing to improve the quality of decoded video.

  • Publication number: 20090198609
Abstract: A computer implemented approach to facilitate multi-phase bid evaluation. In one embodiment, a digital processing system receives information packets (corresponding to bids) from different suppliers containing information elements associated with one of a sequence of phases. On receiving an indication (from a buyer) that a specific phase of the bidding is to be evaluated starting at a time instance, the system allows the buyer access of elements associated with the specific phase only after the time instance, while allowing access to elements associated with a previous phase (occurring prior to the specific phase in the sequence of phases) even before the time instance. In a scenario where the suppliers who have successfully qualified in the previous phase are received, the system allows access of elements associated with the specific phase corresponding only to the qualified suppliers in response to the indication.

  • Patent number: 7571459
Abstract: A method and system for determining whether to allow a network browser action when a transition occurs between security zones as a result of the action is provided. Gaining access to a local machine zone may be a goal for unauthorized entities attempting to improperly access a user's content. The present invention therefore may be initiated to block transitions from the security zones with stricter security restrictions to zones with less security restrictions. In addition, a selected alternative may be commenced depending on the relative weight of the security zones involved the zone transition. Depending on the relative weight of security zones, the transition between zones may be allowed, prevented, or the user may be prompted to decide whether to allow or prevent the action that results in the zone transition.

  • Patent number: 7571261
Abstract: The snapshot capability moving into the SAN fabric and being provided as a snapshot service. A well-known address is utilized to receive snapshot commands. Each switch in the fabric connected to a host contains a front end or service interface to receive the snapshot command. Each switch of the fabric connected to a storage device used in the snapshot process contains a write interceptor module which cooperates with hardware in the switch to capture any write operations which would occur to the snapshot data area. The write interceptor then holds these particular write operations until the original blocks are transferred to a snapshot or separate area so that the original read data is maintained. Should a read operation occur to the snapshot device and the original data from requested location has been relocated, a snapshot server captures these commands and redirects the read operation to occur from the snapshot area.

  • Patent number: 7567618
Abstract: Video deblocking can be implemented in video content processing and delivery environments when displaying decompressed/decoded video information. Discontinuities are identified and smoothed to reduce blockiness, for example at macroblock boundaries in conjunction with Moving Picture Expert Group (MPEG)-based schemes. In exemplary implementation(s), a client device detects discontinuities at or near block boundaries, determines which discontinuities are artificial, and smooths at least those discontinuities that are determined to be artificial. These actions may be accomplished using (i) one or more Laplacian of Gaussian (LoG) operations as applied to both an image and a quantization matrix and (ii) windowed comparisons between values and a threshold resulting from the LoG operations. Alternatively, these actions may be accomplished using a spatio-temporally varying filter.

  • Publication number: 20090185524
Abstract: A method for performing a manual cell search by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) includes receiving a manual cell search command and searching for home enhanced Node B (HeNB) cells during a time period. The time period may be a measurement gap or a discontinuous reception period. If an existing measurement gap is available for the WTRU to use, the search can be performed during that gap. Otherwise, the WTRU can request a new measurement gap to search for HeNBs.

  • Publication number: 20090187837
Abstract: An interface framework enables dynamic generation of a user interface for browsing online media content. The interface can be modified based on changing one or more configuration or data files rather than making changes to code. The files contain interface content, interface configuration parameters and content category information. The framework retrieves a collection of content corresponding to a category, configures the interface based on a set of parameters and the retrieved content, and provides the interface to a remote device. When the files used to generate the interface are modified, the interface provided by the framework thereafter is changed. As a result, the interface may be changed without modifying or adding any code or markup within the framework.

  • Patent number: 7564843
Abstract: The reassembly timer in a TCP/IP receiver is dynamically set to avoid data corruption on fast networks caused by IP identification wrap-around. A sender generates IP packets with a special option specifying a reassembly time for fragments based on the subnet of the destination or on the calculated round-trip time of the connection. A receiver sets the reassembly timer to the reassembly time specified in the option. A sender can generate IP packets with an alternative option setting a time stamp for the generated packet. A receiver calculates a traversal time based on the difference between the arrival time of the fragment and this time stamp, and sets the reassembly timer based on this traversal time.

  • Publication number: 20090180539
Abstract: This invention enables determination of the best video encoding mode for a macroblock in the SKIP mode and comparing this cost with other modes. This invention avoids sub-pixel interpolations for fractional pixels. This invention models the cost function in a quadratic model and computes the cost for a nearest integer pel and plural adjacent integer pels. This permits determination of the coefficients of the quadratic model. An estimated cost is obtained using the actual fractional pel position in the quadratic model. This method can be used for obtaining the cost of a P Skip mode. This method can be used for the decision of B direct or B skip modes in B frames.
