  • Patent number: 9280593
Abstract: A method of categorizing data points is described which, when combined with a clustering algorithm, provides groupings of data points that have an improved confidence interval. The method can be used to find an optimal number of groupings for a dataset, which in turn allows a user to categorize a group of data points for processing. In some examples, a dataset containing a number of data points may be accessed. Additionally, in some aspects, groupings of data points within the dataset may be grouped based at least in part on similarities between the data. Further, a number of groupings of data points may be adjusted so that the distance between the data points within one or more groupings of data points may fit within a confidence level.

  • Patent number: 9266676
Abstract: A dolly and methods for transporting and discharging items. The dolly includes a frame and one or more power conveyer assemblies. The one or more power conveyer assemblies include a set of transfer rollers and a drive mechanism. The drive mechanism includes a drive motor, a continuous drive belt, a set of idler pulleys, a plurality of electrical actuation members, and a foot actuation pedal. Engagement of the foot actuation pedal can cause the drive motor to rotate the continuous drive belt around the set of idler pulleys and the plurality of electrical actuation members to move the continuous drive belt into an interference position with the set of transfer rollers. This can result in rotation of the set of transfer rollers and application of a discharge force to items set upon them.

Abstract: A delicate tissue retraction system having a retractor, an introducer and a clamp mechanism. The retractor has a hollow retractor passage extending along a longitudinal axis from a proximal retractor end to a distal retractor end. The introducer has an introducer channel extending from a proximal introducer end to a distal introducer end. The introducer is configured to be removably installed within the retractor such that the proximal introducer end and distal introducer end are located along the longitudinal axis and the distal introducer end extends beyond the distal retractor end. The clamp mechanism is located on the introducer and includes a clamp axially aligned with the introducer channel, and control member configured to move the clamp between an open position and a closed position. The clamp may be used to hold a navigation probe inside the introducer, and a registration indicator may confirm the proper installation of the probe.

  • Patent number: 9226196
Abstract: Historical decoding can be performed in accordance with pilot signal retransmission or control information retransmission to reduce the amount network resources consumed during data recovery. In one example, historical decoding is achieved through retransmitting a sub-set of coded bits carried by an earlier transmission, which are compared with a corresponding portion of the original signal (stored in memory) to obtain improved channel state information (CSI) relating to that earlier transmission. In another example, historical decoding is achieved through communicating parity information related to a sub-set of the coded bits carried by an earlier transmission, which are used in accordance with a data aided CSI technique to obtain the improved CSI relating to that earlier transmission. In yet another example, historical decoding is achieved by re-transmitting control information carried by an earlier transmission.

  • Publication number: 20150356286
Abstract: A mobile device implements a state machine with full authentication, continuous authentication, and invalidation states. To access the device, the full authentication state requires the user to confirm his or her identity using some robust authentication technique. Upon success, the state machine transitions to the continuous authentication state wherein data samples are captured as the user interacts with the device and compared with stored exemplary fingerprints. Preferably, the state machine enforces a negative identification technique to determine whether the individual currently interacting with the touchscreen is not the user from which the exemplary fingerprints were generated. Upon such negative authentication, the state machine transitions to the invalidation state. In this state, operations (e.g., screen lock) are performed to secure the device against an unauthenticated use.

  • Publication number: 20150302704
Abstract: A gaming machine includes display means and a user interface to receive input in relation to displayed images, and a game controller configured to control images of symbols displayed on the display means and to play a primary game of chance. The game of chance includes emulating spinning and randomly stopping virtual reels to display an image of symbols in a matrix of symbol positions. The game controller determines a trigger event during the play of the primary game of chance, the trigger event including trigger event symbols composed of a predetermined number and a type of symbol, and in response to the trigger event, to reconfigure at least a subset of the matrix of symbol positions from the randomly stopped virtual reels, said subset excluding said trigger event symbols, the reconfigured subset of symbols defining a second screen feature which is distinct from the primary game of chance.

  • Patent number: 9166864
Abstract: This disclosure relates to adaptive streaming for legacy media frameworks. A streaming component includes a reception component that receives a first set of header data associated with an audio stream, and a second set of header data associated with a video stream. A parsing component synthesizes a third set of header data using the first set of header data and the second set of header data based on a set of header criteria for a legacy media framework, and provides the third set of header data to the legacy media framework. A download component acquires respective sets of data from the audio stream and the video stream, and an adaption component provides sets of data to the legacy media framework based on a set of streaming criteria for the legacy media framework.

  • Patent number: 9060207
Abstract: A system and method provides adaptively streaming a video over a content delivery network. A client sends a streaming request for a first portion of the video to a computer server, where the video has multiple video chunks, and each video chunk has one or more streaming parameters (e.g., priority and bitrate). The computer server retrieves the requested portion of the video and streams the first portion of the video over a content delivery network. The client monitors the video chunks received from the computer server and determines the video quality of the next portion of the video based on the monitoring. Responsive to the condition of the content delivery network being able to support streaming the next portion of the video with higher quality, the client updates the default video quality and requests the next portion of the video with the updated default video quality.

  • Patent number: 9055130
Abstract: Systems and methods for initiating presentation of media content prior to receiving seek index data associated with the media content. In particular, if necessary, the seek index data can be received after playback and/or presentation of the media content begins. Thus, delays associated with obtaining or otherwise processing seek index data can be reduced or postponed or in cases of adaptive streaming, higher quality presentation of the media content can be achieved.

  • Patent number: 9003558
Abstract: Embodiments are directed towards enabling a portion of a protected content stream to be played in a degraded quality or experience at a client device when a key and/or license for some other portion of the content stream is unobtainable, or is not obtained by the client device. A content stream has a plurality of layers, with a baseline layer having a lowest quality level of the plurality of layers that is unencrypted, while at least one other layer is encrypted. When the key to decrypt the encrypted layer(s) is unobtained, at least the baseline unencrypted layer is allowed to still play at the client device.
