  • Publication number: 20150195706
Abstract: Embodiments allow one or more eNBs that become isolated from core network entities (e.g., evolved packet core entities such as mobility management entity, serving gate way, packet data network gateway, and so forth) to form a resilient mode network. Such a network can function in a limited fashion and provide for UE to UE communications within the resilient mode network coverage area. One or more of the eNBs function as an autonomous eNB and provide a subset of core network functions that allow UE to UE communications within the resilient mode network coverage area. Embodiments disclosed herein select which eNB functions as the autonomous eNB and then the other eNBs establish an S1-MME and/or S1-U interface with the autonomous eNB.

  • Patent number: 9077543
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing proof of multiple entities being co-located at a specific time and location. An attestor transmits an attestation message via short range communication; the attestation message includes a time stamp, a location stamp, and a verifiable digital signature. An attestee that stores the attestation message can produce the attestation message at a later time to any interested party, as proof of co-location with the attestor at the specified time and location. In one exemplary embodiment, the methods and apparatus are substantially “open” for public implementation. Such public implementation enables attestors and attestees without prior affiliation, to provide attestation. Furthermore, the device-agnostic methods and apparatus can provide attestation capabilities even in previously deployed systems and devices.

  • Publication number: 20150139087
Abstract: Technology for a lawful interception of a proximity service (e.g., device-to-device (D2D) communication) provided to user equipments (UEs) is disclosed. In an example, a method can include an evolved Node B (eNB) transmitting a proximity service setup message to a first UE to setup D2D communication with a second UE. The eNB can transmit a lawful interception message to the first UE or the second UE to provide lawful interception of the D2D communication. The eNB can receive packets associated with the D2D communication from the first UE or the second UE. The eNB can communicate the received packets from the first UE and the second UE to the core network (CN) to be copied.

  • Publication number: 20150031386
Abstract: Methods and apparatus that enable and optimize the simultaneous operation of several wireless femtocells having overlapping coverage areas. In one embodiment of the invention, a resource allocation (e.g., time-frequency grid for an OFDM or TDMA based wireless network) governs the simultaneous operation of several femtocells with overlapping coverage areas by specifying uses for resources. A resource allocation unit (RAU) entity is disclosed for managing and modifying resource allocations for femtocells. The community of femtocells can flexibly share resources according to the time-frequency grid, thereby maximizing spectral efficiency without requiring substantial network overhead.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus enabling a wireless network to provide differentiated services to a machine-to-machine (M2M) client. In one embodiment, the wireless network comprises a UMTS network, and the Home Location Register (HLR) entity identifies subscriptions as machine-to-machine (M2M) enabled devices based on flags or other descriptors associated with each M2M device, and imposes one or more rule sets (e.g., service restrictions) based on this identification. The classification of M2M devices within the HLR may optionally include additional capability or profile data for the M2M device (e.g. static, low mobility, low data activity, etc.). Various other network entities may use the M2M identification to modify the delivered data service, so as to optimize network resources. Furthermore, monitoring of M2M client behavior can be used to detect and notify the network operator of abnormal, fraudulent, or malicious activity. Business methods utilizing the aforementioned methods and apparatus are also disclosed.
