  • Patent number: 8637460
Abstract: The present invention is directed to systems, apparatus and methods for creating derivatives of at least one form of HDL without substantially affecting LDL. These derivatives of HDL are particles with reduced lipid content, particularly reduced cholesterol content. These particles have the capacity to bind cholesterol and are administered to a patient to enhance cellular cholesterol efflux and reduce cholesterol levels in cells, tissues, organs, and blood vessels. The present method is useful for treating atherogenic vascular disease and may be combined with other therapies such as statins, inhibitors of cholesterol absorption, niacin, anti-inflammatories, exercise and dietary restriction.

  • Patent number: 8624916
Abstract: One embodiment of the invention sets forth a CROP configured to perform both color raster operations and atomic transactions. Upon receiving an atomic transaction, the distribution unit within the CROP transmits a read request to the L2 cache for retrieving the destination operand. The distribution unit also transmits the source operands and the operation code to the latency buffer for storage until the destination operand is retrieved from the L2 cache. The processing pipeline transmits the operation code, the source and destination operands and an atomic flag to the blend unit for processing. The blend unit performs the atomic transaction on the source and destination operands based on the operation code and returns the result of the atomic transaction to the processing pipeline for storage in the internal cache. The processing pipeline writes the result of the atomic transaction to the L2 cache for storage at the memory location associated with the atomic transaction.

  • Publication number: 20130313136
Abstract: A carton has hand holes in opposite walls and a spacer panel inserted between stacked articles in the carton. The spacer panel has cut outs in its opposite ends positioned behind the hand holes to provide space for inserting the fingers. The hand holes and spacer panel facilitate lifting, carrying and manipulating the carton. The spacer panel has width and length dimensions to fit within the interior width and length dimensions of the carton and reinforces the carton to reduce damage when the carton is dropped.

  • Publication number: 20130310972
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system for controlling “on”/“off” functionality of an auxiliary device including a circuit designed to monitor physical rotations. The device will activate or deactivate when predetermined rotations are sensed by the circuit within a specific time period. The circuit can be used on high vibration tooling such as grinders and saws due to its resistance to relatively large vibrational noise. The circuit also includes a current sensing device to determine when the auxiliary device draws too much current. When an over current situation is measured, the circuit will automatically shut down to protect the device's electronic components. This control system can be implemented in new device designs, or installed as a retrofit control mechanism to existing commercially available devices.

  • Publication number: 20130192849
Abstract: An apparatus for releasing gas pressure from a drill string includes a tubular housing having a circumferential sidewall, an axis, a first end, a second end and a central passage extending between the first end and the second end. A pressure member is positioned in the central passage along the axis of the housing. The pressure member is movable from a first position retracted within the housing to a second position extending past the second end of the housing. An actuator is provided to move the pressure member from the first position to the second position, where the pressure member exerts a force to move a valve member of a float valve to an open position, thereby allowing gas trapped in the drill string to flow through the central passage.

  • Patent number: 8473040
Abstract: A hand-held device for acquiring electrocardiographic (ECG) signals from a patient comprises an electrode array with a gripping handle (15) and four electrodes (11-14). The electrodes typically form a quadrilateral array, the array being adapted for placement on the patients thoracic region without the need for upper clothing or underwear to be removed. The device can be used in a method to rapidly acquire ECG data relating to atrial fibrillation and/or flutter without the need for a conventional 12-lead ECG apparatus. The data can be transmitted to a computer for further manipulation and analysis. A kit for putting the method into effect includes the device, a means for communication with a computer and a computer program for running on the computer.

  • Publication number: 20120322548
Abstract: A service may be provided to a set of people when the people satisfy a proximity criterion. In one example, that set of people comprises users of a particular application and/or registrants with a particular system. A location monitor may determine people's location based on position data received from those people's devices (which may be obtained pursuant to appropriate permission in order to respect the device owners' interest in privacy). When the location monitor determines, based on people's positions, that a proximity criterion has been satisfied, the location monitor may cause a service to be provided that would not otherwise have been provided if the proximity criterion had not been satisfied. By providing additional service when a proximity criterion is satisfied, a reward in the virtual world is used to encourage people to gather in the physical world.
