  • Publication number: 20130228887
Abstract: Methods and structures for providing single-color or multi-color photo-detectors leveraging plasmon resonance for performance benefits. In one example, a radiation detector includes a semiconductor absorber layer having a first electrical conductivity type and an energy bandgap responsive to radiation in a first spectral region, a semiconductor collector layer coupled to the absorber layer and having a second electrical conductivity type, and a plasmonic resonator coupled to the collector layer and having a periodic structure including a plurality of features arranged in a regularly repeating pattern.

  • Publication number: 20130181059
Abstract: Disclosed herein are embodiments of testing apparatus used to prevent freezing of relays in electrical components, particularly electrical components used in vehicles. One embodiment of a testing apparatus comprises a chamber with temperature control configured to control a temperature of an internal atmosphere of the chamber and a humidifier in fluid communication with the internal atmosphere of the chamber configured to supply humidified air to the internal atmosphere. A sealable opening in a wall of the chamber is configured to pass a wire harness from external the chamber to inside the chamber while maintaining a sealed environment within the chamber. The temperature control is configured to maintain a sub-zero temperature in the internal atmosphere while the humidifier maintains a saturated internal atmosphere.

  • Publication number: 20130181732
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods of preventing freezing of relays in electrical components operated in specific atmospheric conditions. One such method described herein comprises monitoring a temperature of a relay with a thermocouple located on a contact of the relay while monitoring ambient temperature within the relay. Operation of the electrical component is simulated in a sub-zero temperature and high humidity condition. A freeze potential of the relay is determined by plotting a temperature cross-over curve, wherein both the ambient temperature and the contact temperature are plotted during the operation and cool down period. If the high freeze potential is determined, one or both of the relay and the electrical component are modified with a modification configured to decrease the high freeze potential.

  • Patent number: 8094361
Abstract: The present disclosure relates, according to some embodiments, to compositions and devices operable for infra-red transmission and blocking comprising a layered structure having a first electrically conducting layer, a conjugated electrochromic polymer layer, an electrolyte layer and a second electrically conducting layer, wherein the first and second electrically conducting layers have an infrared transparency and the conjugated electrochromic polymers may be operable to be electrically switched between a transparent state that transmits infrared light to an opaque state that does not transmit infrared light. In some embodiments, a device of the disclosure may also have one or more outer substrates sandwiching the other layers. Some embodiments relate to single-layered devices. Some embodiments relate to combined layers. Compositions and devices of the disclosure may be integrated into a wide variety of infrared systems for transmission, shuttering and calibration applications.
