  • Patent number: 9787726
Abstract: A method for operating a UE is provided. The method comprises retrieving, by the UE, an IMS transport policy comprising a set of service transport rules. The set of service transport rules may include an indication of at least one IMS service and an indication of a policy for at least one access technology associated with the at least one IMS service. The indication of the policy may indicate whether the access technology can or cannot be used to transmit data between a network element and the UE when a first IP flow for a first IMS service associated with the UE has at least one IP flow characteristic in common with a second IP flow for a second IMS service associated with the UE, or whether the access technology is preferred over another access technology for transmitting data between the network element and the UE in such circumstances.

  • Patent number: 9781665
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, by which to facilitate selection of a WLAN through which a mobile node communicates. Selection takes into account the geographic positioning of the mobile node. The mobile node ascertains its geographic positioning by monitoring cellular-positioning signals. And, availability of WLANs through which to communicate is ascertained by detecting signals broadcast by the WLANs.

  • Patent number: 9706045
Abstract: In one embodiment, an IMS network node is operable, responsive to receiving a SIP INVITE request from an enterprise user to initiate origination of an outgoing cellular call to a called party, for establishing a first call leg to the enterprise user by sending a SIP INVITE message back to the enterprise user. The IMS network node includes functionality for establishing a second call leg to the called party. The first and second call legs are patched to establish an end-to-end communications path between the enterprise user and the called party, wherein an enterprise address instead of a non-enterprise address of the enterprise user is presented to the called party as a calling line identity with respect to the outgoing cellular call from the enterprise user.

  • Publication number: 20170135031
Abstract: A method, computer program product and a user equipment (UE) are provided for selecting a second network node for connection. A first message is sent to a first network node. The first message includes UE request capabilities. A second message is received from the first network node. The second message includes an indication. A second network node is selected for connecting to the network based on the received indication. The second network node may be an Evolved Packet Data Gateway (ePDG). The UE request capabilities may indicate ePDG selection and/or allow discovery of details of one or more ePDGs for connection. the indication contains at least one of a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) or an indication that the UE must attempt to connect using only an ePDG belonging to a Registered Public Land Mobile Network (RPLMN).

  • Patent number: 9642030
Abstract: Some aspects of what is described here relate to systems, devices, and computer-implemented methods for capturing data related to a mobile device in a wireless network. In one example, a method may include receiving, at a mobile device, data capture configuration information from a wireless network, the data capture configuration information indicating a data type to be captured from the mobile device in an off-network environment. Thereafter, in response to detecting the off-network environment at the mobile device, a data element is stored in a local memory of the mobile device. The data element corresponds to the data type indicated by the data capture configuration information. The data element is sent to the wireless network, for instance, when the mobile device has access to the wireless network.

  • Patent number: 9615311
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for the communication of cellular network information between a wireless local area network (WLAN) and a mobile station are disclosed. In one illustrative example, the mobile station receives a generic container message from the WLAN. The generic container message includes cellular network information associated with one or more available cellular networks previously received by the WLAN. The generic container message is not technology or standard-specific, as it may contain cellular network information from a variety of different cellular networks (e.g. 3GPP, 3GPP2, IETF, etc.). The mobile station decodes the generic container message to identify and store the cellular network information in its memory. Preferably, the cellular network information includes information for identifying the cellular networks so that the mobile station may appropriately select one of the cellular networks for communication.
