  • Patent number: 6278949
Abstract: This invention discloses a method for rapid visual exploration of a volume of seismic data which does not require horizon picking or editing and yet displays all horizons with their stratigraphic features and lithologic variations in 3-D motion on a color graphics workstation. Seismic data is processed to generate multiple attributes at each event, location of a specified phase of the seismic trace, within the 3-D survey volume. Subsets of multiple attributes are interactively selected, thresholded and combined with one out of a suite of mathematical operators into a scalar function which is mapped onto a user selected color spectrum. Three dimensional features, where geological structure and stratigraphic compartments, including those that cannot be detected with conventional techniques, automatically emerge in the 3-D volume as the composition of attributes in the subset, threshold limits of attributes or the mathematical form of operator is interactively varied.

  • Patent number: 5900376
Abstract: A method of a protein assay wherein a protein solution is treated with an acidic component followed by the addition of a precipitate-forming component, which results in precipitation of protein. The protein precipitate is collected and treated with one or more reagents of a protein assay to produce a characteristic protein color reaction. The concentration of protein is determined by measuring the optical density of protein color reaction and comparing the color reaction with a known standard.

  • Patent number: 5635045
Abstract: An apparatus for electroelution isolation of biomolecules and recovering biomolecules after elution including a tubular enclosure for engaging a piece of separating gel having a band of biomolecules. The enclosure is capped by a closure means having a passage means, and then placed in an electrophoresis tank with the closure means facing the positive terminal. Applying an electric current forces the biomolecules to accumulate at the closure means. The biomolecules may be recovered by inserting a capillary tip through the passage means and drawing the biomolecules through the capillary.

  • Patent number: 5300440
Abstract: A method for protein assay is a modified Lowry method in which a Step 1 reaction between a copper-containing alkaline solution and a protein solution takes place at high alkali concentration. The Step 2 reaction the products of Step 1 and Folin reagent commences at a pH of 11 and 12 in order to produce rapidly the colored species on the basis of which a maximum optical density is reached in a relatively short time and remains constant for a sufficient period to enable the required number of optical density determinations to be made.

  • Patent number: 5251184
Abstract: A method and apparatus of rapidly generating horizon maps from a three dimensional volume of seismic traces is disclosed. During batch processing of the digital data representing trace wavelets, "1"'s are "0"'s are determined for each seismic trace of the volume. A bit volume is produced of which a "1" at a depth of a trace indicates that a horizon exists at that depth and at other depths of "1"'s of adjacent traces which are within a predetermined depth. In a real time mode, an explorationist selects a seed point thereby identifying a "1" on a particular trace at a particular depth. An automatic scanning procedure finds all other "1"'s at depths of adjacent traces. Each found "1" of adjacent traces is redesignated a seed point and the process is continued until no more "1"'s can be found. A horizon map is created from the depths of each found "1".

  • Patent number: 4894807
Abstract: An inventive method for simultaneously collecting depth-of-focus vertical seismic profiling (VSP) data and three-dimensional surface seismic data is disclosed. At least one seismic sensor is deployed at a predetermined depth of a borehole and raised in increments determined by the survey. A seismic source and a plurality of seismic sensor may be deployed at the surface along a partial arc offset from the top of the borehole by a distance inversely proportional to the depth of the sensor in the borehole. The seismic source generates a seismic signal at a plurality of points in a circular path around the borehole. Once a circle has been completed, the borehole sensor is raised, and the seismic signal generator and sensors are moved to the next largest circular path and the process is repeated. The seismic signals are simultaneously recorded by the borehole sensor and the sensors deployed in the arcuate path.

  • Patent number: 4685247
Abstract: This invention is related to a safety barrier positionable in a doorway or passageway to prevent the passage of small children or animals. The barrier comprises a frame assembly having a substantially rectangular structure with upper (4, 5, 16) and lower (1) frame elements, each extending from one side of the passageway to the other. The frame assembly is provided with independently adjustable clamping means (12, 13, 14, 15) at each corner thereof for securing within the passageway. At least a portion of the frame assembly is in the form of a gate which is openable to allow access through the barrier. The gate is provided with further clamping means (22) to lock the openable portion in its closed condition, said further clamping means acting to increase the overall stability of the barrier within the passageway.
