  • Patent number: 5493857
Abstract: An exhaust gas-purging system for an internal combustion engine includes a catalyst arranged in an exhaust passage of the engine, for purifying exhaust gases emitted from the engine. The system detects an engine operating condition and a catalyst temperature parameter indicative of the temperature of the catalyst. The supply of secondary air to the exhaust passage and the flow path cross-sectional area of the exhaust passage are controlled based on at least one of the operating condition of the engine and the catalyst temperature parameter.

  • Patent number: 5467594
Abstract: An exhaust gas-purifying system for an internal combustion engine is provided with hydrocarbon-adsorbing catalyzer for adsorbing unburnt gas components present in exhaust gases. At least one exhaust gas-purifying catalyzer is arranged in the exhaust passage at a location downstream of the hydrocarbon-adsorbing catalyzer. A bypass passage bypasses the hydrocarbon-purifying catalyzer. A changeover valve is arranged in the exhaust passage at a branchpoint between the bypass passage and the exhaust passage, for selecting a first flow path in which exhaust gases are guided to the unburnt gas component-adsorbing catalyzer, or a second flow path in which exhaust gases are guided through the bypass passage. First and second exhaust gas concentration sensors are arranged in the exhaust passage at locations upstream and downstream of the hydrocarbon-purifying catalyzer.

  • Patent number: 5302817
Abstract: An X-ray detector has a transmission type intensifying screen provided on the X-ray incident area of the detector body and a reflection type intensifying screen provided on the inner wall surface of the detector body except for the X-ray incident area. Visible rays from the transmission type intensifying screen and the reflection type intensifying screen are detected by a photomultiplier installed in the detector body. The transmission type intensifying screen and the reflection type intensifying screen use fluorescent materials such as Gd.sub.2 O.sub.2 S:Tb; Gd.sub.2 O.sub.2 S:Tb, Ce; GD.sub.2 O.sub.2 S:Tb, Yb; Gb.sub.2 O.sub.2 S:Pr; BaFCl:Eu; BaFBr:Eu; La.sub.2 O.sub.2 S:Tb; La.sub.2 O.sub.2 S:Tb, Ce; La.sub.2 O.sub.2 S:Tb, Yb; La.sub.2 O.sub.2 S:Pr; Y.sub.2 O.sub.2 S:Tb; Y.sub.2 O.sub.2 S:Tb, Ce; Y.sub.2 O.sub.2 S:Tb, Yb; and Y.sub.2 O.sub.2 S:Pr.

  • Patent number: 5180319
Abstract: A joint structure joins an outboard engine assembly to a boat hull. The outboard engine assembly has an engine, a case, a propeller rotatably supported on the case and drivable by the engine. The joint structure includes an attachment adapted to be coupled to the boat hull, the case having an inner surface defining an inner housing region, and elastic mount mechanism accommodated in the inner housing region for elastically supporting the case to the attachment. The elastic mount mechanism comprises a support member coupled to the attachment, and an elastic member disposed on the support member, the elastic member being elastically deformable from partial abutment to full abutment against a portion of the inner surface of the case in response to an increase in compressive forces which are applied between the case and the attachment when the engine is in operation.

  • Patent number: 4982098
Abstract: Disclosed is speed compensated intensifying screen which has a layer of phosphor and a protective layer superposed sequentially on a substrate and further has a light-absorbing layer capable of absorbing part of the light emitted from the layer of phosphor superposed thereon. By this light-absorbing layer, a plurality of regions differing in speed are formed within the layer of phosphor. In the plurality of regions, the speed is continuously changed across the borderlines between the regions. This continuous change in density across the borderlines prevents the borderlines between the regions of speed from appearing as line patterns in the produced X-ray radiograph. The intensifying screen of the grade adapted for X-ray radiography of the chest effects proper speed correction by incorporating therein a plurality of regions of speed formed so as to conform to the various internal organs in the chest such as the upper and lower mediastinums, the hilums of the lung, and the lungfields.

  • Patent number: 4857741
Abstract: This invention concerns an intensifying screen using a phosphor capable of emitting light under X-ray excitation. This intensifying screen is characterized by the fact that the phosphor layer in the intensifying screen comprises a first phosphor layer containing a phosphor represented by the general formula (I):M.sub.a Ln.sub.1--x--(2/3)a DO.sub.4 :XR.sup.3+ (I)(wherein M stands for at least one divalent metal element selected from the group consisting of Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Zn, and Cd, Ln for at least one element selected from the group consisting of Y, Gd, La, and Lu, D for either or both of Ta and Nb, R for at least one member selected from the group consisting of Tm, Pr, Sm, Eu, Tb, Dy, Yb, and self-activators, a for a value satisfying the expression, 0<a.ltoreq.1, and x for a valve satisfying the expression, 0.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.0.005) and formed on the aforementioned substrate side and a second phosphor layer containing CaWO.sub.4 and formed on the aforementioned protective layer side.
