  • Publication number: 20170114880
Abstract: A double eccentric positioning apparatus uses two equal offset eccentric bushings to accurately position a tool (such as a drill bushing) in two dimensions. Miniature servo motors and precise gearing control the rotation of each eccentric bushing, which controls the direction of the offset vectors. The offset vectors are used to determine the final position of the drill bushing. The desired rotation angles can be mathematically calculated based on desired position. The inner eccentric bushing is located concentric to the offset of the outer eccentric bushing. This allows any position, within a radius of two times the eccentric offset, to be achieved. The use of worm gearing on the eccentric bushings prevents back-driving of the servo motors, due to the lead angle of the worm gears, and the friction between the worm wheel and worm gear.

  • Publication number: 20170116506
Abstract: A radio frequency identification (RFID) transponder may include a substrate and a device. The substrate may be in communication with a controller and an antenna, and the antenna is arranged to receive radio frequency signals. A first side surface of the substrate may include a capacitor. The device may be detachably coupled with the substrate via a conductive member positioned between the structure and the capacitor of the substrate, and the conductive member may be within a desired proximity of the capacitor. The structure may be attached to an attachment surface so that an attachment strength between the structure and the attachment surface may be greater than a force required to decouple the structure from the substrate. When the structure is decoupled from the substrate, the conductive member separates from the capacitor, disabling the transponder.

  • Publication number: 20170116873
Abstract: Embodiments are directed to deploying a crowd to assess the performance of human-related activities. Content, such as video, audio, and/or textual content is captured. The content documents a subject's performance of the subject activity. The content, as well as an associated assessment tool (AT), are provided to reviewers. The AT includes questions that are directed to assessing domains of the performance. The reviewers review the content and assess the performance of the subject activity by providing assessment data. The assessment data includes answers to the questions of the AT. After a statistically significant number of independent reviewers have provided a statistically significant volume of assessment data, the assessment data is collated to generate statistical reviewer distributions of the independent assessments of various domains of the performance. A report is generated based on the collated assessment data. The report includes an overview of the crowd-sourced assessment of the performance.

  • Publication number: 20170112080
Abstract: A plant nutrient delivery system comprises a sensor, an electronically actuated valve and an electronic controller. The sensor is positionable in plant growing media and operable to detect a condition of the plant growing media. The electronically actuated valve has a connection to a liquid nutrient source. The electronic controller is linked to the sensor and to the electronically actuated valve. The controller is programmed to carry out automatic demand-based nutrient delivery to the plant growing media by controlling the electronically actuated valve to turn on and off based on signals received from the sensor regarding a condition of the plant growing media, thereby causing a flow of the liquid nutrient into the plant growth media to start and to stop. Methods are also described.

  • Publication number: 20170115986
Abstract: The apparatus and method for calculating and retaining a bound on error during floating point operations inserts an additional bounding field into the standard floating-point format that records the retained significant bits of the calculation with notification upon insufficient retention. The bounding field, which accounts for both rounding and cancellation errors, has two parts, the lost bits D Field and the accumulated rounding error R Field. The D Field states the number of bits in the floating point representation that are no longer meaningful. The bounds on the real value represented are determined from the truncated floating point value (first bound) and the addition of the error determined by the number of lost bits (second bound). The true, real value is absolutely contained by the first and second bounds. The allowed loss (optionally programmable) of significant bits provides a fail-safe, real-time notification of loss of significant bits.

  • Publication number: 20170118077
Abstract: A system, apparatuses, and methods for enabling management of customizations/extensions to the functionality of a multi-tenant computing platform. In some embodiments, an extended or customized entity, such as a function, operation, process, module, sub-routine, data item, etc. is represented as a record. That record is then associated with an underlying record by means of a tenant specific mapping or equivalent structure. This enables the tenant to utilize the extended or customized entity in place of the underlying record in situations in which the underlying record would typically be used. This also provides a way of isolating the extensions or customizations on the multi-tenant platform so that they are associated with specific tenants and not with other tenants who may still access the underlying or un-extended versions of the entity.

  • Publication number: 20170118695
Abstract: Concepts and technologies are described herein for a hybrid network-based and device-based intelligent radio access control. According to one aspect disclosed herein, a radio access technology (“RAT”) selection system and a mobile device cooperate to enable an intelligent multi-radio access control that can select a RAT that is best-suited for the mobile device. The RAT selection system can select networks based upon network conditions, policies, user profiles, applications, and/or other information, and provide a list of the networks to the mobile device. The mobile device can utilize local device information to select a network from the list. In this manner, the RAT selection system and the mobile device can cooperate to steer traffic to various networks operating in accordance with different RATs to improve user experience, especially in network traffic congested areas, and to efficiently leverage network resources for mobile telecommunications and WI-FI networks.
