The apparatus may further include a third layer of a conductive material to shield the apparatus from stray capacitance. The indicator(s) of the present invention can, for example, provide information about syringe configuration by the number and/or position thereof. A plurality or set of such syringes can be provided, with the configuration of each such syringe being represented by the presence or absence of indicator(s) of that syringe.

    Abstract: An injector system includes a syringe and an injector. The syringe includes a body portion and a plunger movably disposed within the body portion. The injector includes a housing defining a front opening therein, a drive member extendible through the front opening of the housing for imparting motive force to the plunger disposed within the syringe, and a pressure jacket assembly associated with the housing for substantially enclosing the syringe during an injection procedure. The pressure jacket assembly includes a jacket cylinder having an open front end for receiving the syringe and a front member associated with the housing. The front member is pivotable between a closed position for retaining the syringe within the jacket cylinder and an open position for allowing the syringe to be inserted into and removed from the front end of the jacket cylinder.

    Abstract: A method of detecting a change (that is, an increase or a decrease) in the level of fluid in tissue in a first area of a body includes the steps of: applying electromagnetic energy, preferably in the frequency range of approximately 300 MHz to approximately 30 GHz, to a first volume of the body; measuring a resultant or returned signal; comparing the signal to a reference signal to determine if the fluid level in the tissue has changed. In one embodiment, the method detects changes in the level of fluid in tissue of a body by applying electromagnetic energy to a first volume of the body over a period of time (for example, using an antenna or antennae); measuring a resultant signal or a signal returned from the tissue; and comparing the signal to a reference signal to determine if a level of fluid in the tissue has changed during the period of time.

    Abstract: An aseptic connector comprises a first member and a second member. The first member preferably includes a resilient septum, and the second member preferably includes a penetrating member. Preferably, the septum is formed from an elastomeric material such as a silicone elastomer. The penetrating member preferably includes an extending penetrating element to penetrate the resilient septum. The aseptic connector further comprises a resilient sealing element that contacts the penetrating member and one of an inner wall of the first member and an inner wall of the second member to create a seal between the penetrating member and one of the inner wall of the first member and the inner wall of the second member. The seal created is suitable to withstand relatively high pressures (for example, those experienced during the injection of contrast media in CT procedures). A fluid delivery system comprising at least a first aseptic connector as described above is also provided.
