  • Patent number: 7861394
Abstract: A method for making a composite tubular structure, such as the inner skin of an acoustic liner, includes providing a tool that is adjustable between a molding position and a non-molding position. The tool has a base on which are mounted a plurality of sectors, each sector having an outer panel provided with a predetermined shaped surface. The predetermined shaped surface corresponds to a portion of the contour of the tubular structure to be formed. At least one of the sectors is fixed relative to the base while the remaining sectors are movable in a radial direction and separable from all the other sectors. The method includes adjusting the movable sectors until the tool is in the molding position, applying composite material on an outer surface of each sector, curing the composite material to form an inner skin, and removing the inner skin from the outer surface. The thus-formed composite tubular structure may be remounted on the tool for bonding to additional exterior layers.

  • Patent number: 7835868
Abstract: A process for selecting shaped particles for use in a tube which is capable of being packed with shaped particles to form a packed bed in the tube. A desired value of one or more properties of the packed bed is defined. The dimensions of the shaped particles are calculated such that a packed bed in the tube of the shaped particles having the calculated dimensions meets or substantially meets the desired value(s), and shaped particles are selected in accordance with the calculated dimensions. The properties of the packed bed may be the volume fraction which is occupied by shaped particles, the packing density, and the resistivity for a gas flowing through the packed bed.

  • Publication number: 20100212424
Abstract: An angular velocity sensor or gyroscope has a ring and a primary drive transducer arranged to cause the ring to oscillate in a primary mode substantially at the resonant frequency of the primary mode of the ring. A primary control loop receives primary pick-off signals from the primary pick-off transducer and provides primary drive signals to the primary drive transducer so as to maintain resonant oscillation of the ring. The primary control loop includes a demodulator arranged to determine the amplitude of the fundamental frequency of the primary pick-off signals and a demodulator arranged to determine the amplitude of the second harmonic frequency of the primary pick-off signals and a drive signal generator arranged to produce the primary drive signals 116 with amplitude that is dependent on a ratio of the amplitude of the second harmonic frequency of the primary pick-off signal over the amplitude of the fundamental frequency of the primary pick-off signal as derived by a divider.

The socket includes a wall having at least a first section extending in axial direction, the first section having at least one annular bead providing a housing for at least partially accommodating a sealing element within the socket, and two second sections. Each second section is located immediately adjacent to a bead and commences at a position along an axis of the socket at which a magnitude of a derivative of an outside radius of the wall with respect to the axial position has a local minimum. In addition, each second section has, for every azimuthal position, an inside radius with a minimum at an axial position where the first and second sections terminate and the minimum radius of each second section is smaller than the inside radius at the axial position where the second section commences.

  • Patent number: 7725203
Abstract: The invention generally pertains to enhancing a sensory perception of media. More particularly, the invention pertains to creating a composition having at least one frequency in the ultrasonic or infrasonic range. By way of example, the composition is inaudible in its preferred embodiment, but audible components are contemplated. One aspect of the invention relates to selecting a root frequency and then, via a mathematical operation or algorithm, calculating a single component frequency or a plurality of frequencies that lie in the infrasonic or ultrasonic range. Typically, infrasonic and ultrasonic frequencies lie outside the range of hearing for the average human being. The ultrasonic or infrasonic component frequency is not heard, yet its presence and its tonal characteristics may enhance a perception of the sensory content of a media conveyed through a media device.
