  • Patent number: 10107421
Abstract: A polyetheretherketone pipe of length greater than 250 meters and a residual stress of less than 5 MPa may be made using a calibrator device (2) which includes a cone shaped opening (6) arranged to receive a molten extruded pipe shaped polymer. Attached to the front member (4) is a vacuum plate (14a) and successive vacuum plates (14b-14h) are attached to one another to define an array of vacuum plates, the vacuum plates being arranged to allow a vacuum to be applied to a pipe precursor passing through opening (16). The vacuum plates (14) also include (10) temperature control means for heating or cooling the plates and therefore heating or cooling a pipe precursor passing through the openings.

  • Publication number: 20180192221
Abstract: An audio system for use in a confined space comprises N acoustic transducers, where N is an integer and N?2. Each acoustic transducer is configured to receive an audio signal for a respective channel of the audio system and to generate an acoustic signal therefrom, and is operably coupled to a respective filter having a phase response. The phase response of at least one of the filters is different from the phase response of at least one other of the filters at a frequency f having a corresponding wavelength ?=d/(n+½), where n is an integer and n?0 and d is a characteristic separation of two or more of the N acoustic transducers when in the confined space. Compensation is thereby achieved for a reduction in acoustic power that would otherwise occur over a range of frequencies of width ?f around frequency f.

  • Publication number: 20170057163
Abstract: A process for manufacturing an object by laser sintering comprises: (i) selecting a powder comprising a polymeric material having a repeat unit of formula —O—Ph—O—Ph—CO—Ph—??I and a repeat unit of formula —O—Ph—Ph—O—Ph—CO—Ph—??II wherein Ph represents a phenylene moiety; and (ii) selectively sintering the powder to produce the object. It is found that the polymer used can be advantageously recycled and blended with virgin material to produce a blend which has very similar mechanical properties and crystallinity compared to the virgin material. Thus, the polymer may be cost-effectively used in laser sintering.

  • Publication number: 20170024452
Abstract: The present invention provides a re-partitioning-based sampling system and method which provides for generating a synopsis from large database tables such that an aggregation query performed on the synopsis provides an approximate answer to the aggregation query which is in prescribed error bounds relative to a query on the full database. The system includes a partition function generator, a synopsis vector calculator, and a synopsis constructor. The synopsis constructed by the system is sufficiently small to be held in memory to allow quick and resource efficient satisficing of aggregation queries.

  • Publication number: 20160033058
Abstract: A composite pipe comprises a polyetheretherketone innermost pipe around which a reinforcing overwrap is arranged. A protective sheath surrounds the overwrap. Such a composite pipe may be made by selecting a polyetheretherketone pipe having an outer region having a crystallinity of less than 25%; overlaying the selected pipe with overwrap; and subjecting the combination to heat, thereby causing the crystallinity of the outer region of the polyetheretherketone pipe to increase. The method reduces the risk of pipe failure.

  • Patent number: 8745352
Abstract: Reducing contentions between processes or tasks that are trying to access shared resources is described herein. According to embodiments of the invention, a method of writing a set of data associated with a task to a memory resource is provided. The method includes calculating the amount of memory required to write said data to the memory resource and updating an expected end marker to reflect the amount of memory required to write the data to the memory resource. A flag is then set to an incomplete state, and the data is written to the memory resource. The flag can be set to a complete state and an end marker is updated. The end marker indicates the end of the data stored in the memory resource.
