  • Patent number: 9438411
Abstract: A method and system for synchronizing digital messages. A digital message includes a start-of-message indicator, followed by a key word, followed by the message payload. Before transmitting the digital message, the payload is combined in an exclusive-OR operation with the key word, which is chosen from a pre-designated pool of key words. Each pool represents a message of different type, which is type is related to word length. The key word and start-of-message indicator are appended to the resulting exclusive-OR digital message and transmitted. On receipt, the start-of-message indicator indicates the start of the message, and the key word determines the message word length and, after a second exclusive-OR operation with the key word, restores the original digital message. The start of the message is positively identified without additions to the message payload and without the key word ever appearing in the payload during transmission.

  • Patent number: 9398007
Abstract: A wearable computing device, such as a wearable credit card type device or a wearable identification type device, that provides for deferred re-authentication that a user currently in possession of the wearable computing device is indeed the authorized user. In this aspect, the wearable computing device may store authentication data input by the user when network connection is unavailable, and transmit the authentication data when the network becomes available. For increased security, location information may also be incorporated so that the re-authentication may only occur within a limited number of geographic locations.

  • Publication number: 20160134488
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for provisioning and providing services to devices on a local network are described. The methods and apparatus allow for the provisioning of services to customer owned and managed devices on a local network on which another device, e.g., a first device, has already been authenticated and authorized to receive services corresponding to a customer account. After a first device on a local network is authenticated and associated with a customer account it detects the addition of new devices on the local network and assists in the registration of the new device by acting as an intermediary with a service provider device during the registration process. The security and registration established by the first device is leveraged allowing other devices on the network to be registered and authenticated for services corresponding to the same account as the first device without requiring user input of authentication and/or other information.

  • Patent number: 8924999
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing individual customized content delivery features and services to service subscribers are described. Individual service subscribers are issued devices such an RFID chip or IR device such as a remote control capable of transmitting service subscriber identification signals and/or records. A set top box detects signals used to identify individual subscribers and determines a subscriber identifier corresponding to each of the identified subscriber(s) and/or receives service profile record and/or service preference information from the user device. Service and/or other customer records corresponding to detected service subscriber(s) are used to determine what services and/or features are to be provided, what program channels may be accesses, what recorded programs corresponding to a subscriber may be accessed and, in some embodiments, service preference information such as personal preferences/settings relating to program guide presentation.

  • Publication number: 20140244665
Abstract: In one embodiment, location-based names are selected for a digital object based on a user's familiarity with the geographic location where the digital object was generated. For example, a memory stores multiple names indicative of the same geographic location. The multiple names may include a street address, a city, and a state, where each defines a different level of location specificity. The device that generates the digital object also collects familiarity data for the geographic location and calculates a familiarity score for the digital object based on the familiarity data for the user or the device. If the familiarity score is above a threshold, the user of the device is familiar with the geographic location, and a specific name is associated with the digital object. If the familiarity score is below the threshold, the user of the device is not familiar with the geographic location, and a broader name is associated with the digital object.

  • Patent number: 7876252
Abstract: In a data acquisition system that captures signal data from one or more input channels, the signal data are compressed prior to transfer or storage. Compression allows the data acquisition system to effectively store more captured signal data in a given amount of memory. The data transfer interface of the data acquisition system requires less bandwidth for transfer of compressed data than for uncompressed data. The compression operations may be performed in real time. The data acquisition system may include one or more analog-to-digital converters to sample analog signals received over the input channels to produce the sampled data for compression. The compressed data are transferred to a processor where they are decompressed prior processing or analysis. This abstract does not limit the scope of the invention as described in the claims.

  • Publication number: 20100198647
Abstract: A technical hotline resource management method and system provides a business solution for contact centers which receive contacts both through telephone-based inquiries and web-based inquiries. The disclosed method and system provides, among other things, intelligent calculation of projected resource requirements, a common schedule template for all groups engaged in providing technical assistance, simple input and maintenance screens, a readily-viewed calendar of employee schedules, detailed employee profiles (which identify employee skills), and options for scheduling different work types during given increments of time. Having such information readily available the technical hotline resource manager can thus readily review lists of available employees, groups, and technical requests and can route the inquiries efficiently and quickly.

  • Patent number: 7649484
Abstract: An enhancement that reduces the digital interface rate of analog-to-digital (A/D) and digital-to-analog (D/A) converters through the use of compression and decompression is described for implementation as a single integrated circuit. Improved A/D converters compressing a sampled version of an A/D converter's analog input signal in real time, thereby significantly decreasing the required bit rate of the A/D converter's digital interface. Similarly, improved D/A converters decrease the required bit rate of the D/A converter's digital interface. D/A converters include a decompressor that decompresses the D/A converter's compressed digital input in real time, prior to conversion to an analog output signal.
