Patent number: 11966329Abstract: A memory system having non-volatile media, a volatile memory, and a controller configured to process requests from a host system to store data in the non-volatile media or retrieve data from the non-volatile media. The non-volatile media has a quantity of memory units and stores an address map that defines logical addresses used in the requests in terms of physical addresses of the memory units in the non-volatile media. The host system has a memory connected to the memory system via a communication channel. The memory system has a cache manager that stores a first portion of the address map in the volatile memory of the memory system and a second portion of the address map in the memory of the host system. In response to an operation that uses a logical address defined in the second portion, the cache manager retrieves the second portion of the address map from the memory of the host system through the communication channel to the volatile memory of the memory system.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2018Date of Patent: April 23, 2024Assignee: Micron Technology, Inc.Inventor: Alex Frolikov

Publication number: 20240103734Abstract: A computer having a plurality of accounts and a storage device having a host interface, a controller, non-volatile storage media, and firmware. An account is configured with at least a predetermined speed in accessing the non-volatile storage media by allocating a number of input/output submission queues in the buffer area of the host. The number can be determined from a ratio between the predetermined speed configured for the account and a saturated speed of the storage device with sufficient submission queues. Data access requests from the account are evenly distributed to the submission queues allocated for the exclusive use by the account; and the controller, configured via the firmware, processes with equal priority the submission queues configured for the storage device. Thus, the account can have at least the predetermined speed in accessing the non-volatile storage media, regardless of how other accounts access the storage device.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 3, 2023Publication date: March 28, 2024Inventor: Alex Frolikov

Publication number: 20240036766Abstract: A computer system having a host in communication with a data storage device is coupled to the host via a peripheral bus and a host interface. The data storage device has a controller, non-volatile storage media; and firmware containing instructions configures the operations of the controller. The host transmits a sequence of commands to the storage device to read data items from, or write data items to, the non-volatile storage media. Publication number: 20230393743Abstract: A data storage system having non-volatile media, a buffer memory, a processing device, and a data pre-fetcher. The data pre-fetcher receives commands to be executed in the data storage system, provides the commands as input to a predictive model, obtains at least one command identified for pre-fetching, as output from the predictive model having the commands as input. Prior to the command being executed in the data storage device, the data pre-fetcher retrieves, from the non-volatile memory, at least a portion of data to be used in execution of the command; and stores the portion of data in the buffer memory. The retrieving and storing the portion of the data can be performed concurrently with the execution of many commands before the execution of the command, to reduce the latency impact of the command on other commands that are executed concurrently with the execution of the command.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 23, 2023Publication date: December 7, 2023Inventors: Alex Frolikov, Zachary Andrew Pete Vogel, Joe Gil Mendes, Chandra Mouli Guda
