    Abstract: A halide material, such as scintillator crystals of LaBr3:Ce and SrI2:Eu, with a passivation surface layer is disclosed. The surface layer comprises one or more halides of lower water solubility than the scintillator crystal that the surface layer covers. A method for making such a material is also disclosed. In certain aspects of the disclosure, a passivation layer is formed on a surface of a halide material such as a scintillator crystal of LaBr3:Ce of SrI2:Eu by fluorinating the surface with a fluorinating agent, such as F2 for LaBr3:Ce and HF for SrI2:Eu.

    Abstract: A weatherproof back box for receiving a fire alarm notification or other fire alarm device includes a back wall and sidewalls that project from the back wall and define a mouth. The sidewalls further include recessed portions that extend from the back wall toward the mouth, and end prior to the mouth. The back box further includes mounting posts, which are preferably less than 50% of the depth of the back box, that project from the recessed portions into the mouth. Additionally, these mounting posts receive fasteners for securing the fire alarm notification device in the mouth of the back box.

A bifunctional molecule for use in labelling an antibody derived from a first species, the bifunctional molecule comprising a binding region which binds to the antibody of the first species or to one or more groups provided thereon, and a constant region derived from an antibody of a second species, the constant region comprising at least one CH domain or an epitope thereof. The present invention relates to bifunctional molecules and complexes which are useful as positive control reagents in antibody based diagnostic tests. The present invention also relates to polynucleotides encoding these bifunctional molecules, and to diagnostic assays involving the use of these molecules.

    Abstract: A vascular interventional device may be introduced over a guidewire into a vessel of the cardiovascular system of a patient. This device includes a hollow, flexible tube having a proximal end and a distal end that is adapted to selectively engage a target vessel of the cardiovascular system of the patient. This tube also includes a lumen that is continuous from the proximal to the distal end, and has an end hole in the distal end that is in fluid communication with the lumen. A plurality of side holes are provided near the distal end of the tube, each of which is in continuous fluid communication with the lumen. The device also includes a hollow vessel dilator that is adapted for insertion into and through the tube and over the guidewire. The dilator has an inside diameter that is slightly larger than the guidewire and an outside diameter that is slightly smaller than the diameter of the lumen of the tube.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically detecting a lubricant type and the relative quantity of water present in a test sample of lubricating oil includes the use of an open grid capacitive sensor element that incorporates the lubricating oil as a dielectric medium. The sensor element grid is energized by a frequency variable oscillator that automatically responds to changes in the oil dielectric constant with corresponding frequency changes. As a reference, a sample of new or uncontaminated test oil is confined in wet surface contact with the energized, open grid sensor element. Oscillator frequency changes are measured and recorded, either continuously or at frequent intervals, over a standardized elapsed time interval to generate a reference characterization of the frequency-time relationship distinctive of the particular oil. The same is repeated for a sample of contaminated oil and a corresponding frequency-time relationship generated.
