  • Patent number: 8671276
Abstract: The present invention provides a computer implemented method, system, and computer program product for selective encryption of a data transmission. A data transmission is received. When the data transmission is received, the data transmission is unmarshaled. When the transmission is unmarshaled, objects and a set of sensitive fields within the data transmission are identified by referencing a metadata database. Only the set of sensitive fields within the data transmission are encrypted to form a partially encrypted data transmission. The partially encrypted data transmission is marshaled to form a marshaled data transmission. The marshaled data transmission is transmitted to a recipient.

  • Patent number: 8625764
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide optimization of telephone services through telephone calling plan/card analysis. The least expensive rate is found for telephone calls at any given time and/or date, either through static pre-entry of data, or through dynamic querying of rates via a web-based look-up table, and places calls according to an optimized calling plan. Specifically, in a typical embodiment, an outgoing/target telephone number for an intended telephone call is captured, and a corresponding destination geographic region is identified. Based on the geographic region, a calling plan resulting in a lowest price for the telephone call is identified. This is typically accomplished by consulting at least one table (e.g., call information table) that associates (among other things) calling plans and/or calling cards with geographic regions.

  • Patent number: 8576091
Abstract: A method and system for processing road sign content by a mobile computing device in a vehicle. A wireless communication network is monitored for signals continuously broadcasted over the network from road sign transmitters, the signals including road sign messages containing road sign content information from road signs. A signal of said continuously broadcasted signals is captured as a result of the monitoring, the captured signal including a message of the road sign messages, the message including road sign content information from a road sign of including road signs, the captured signal being in range of the mobile computing device. The message is interpreted to ascertain the road sign content information from the road sign. Based on display parameters previously defined by a user, the road sign content information in the captured message is displayed onto a display device in the vehicle operationally coupled to the mobile computing device.

  • Patent number: 8478985
Abstract: An improved method, apparatus, and computer instructions for processing outbound traffic passing through a port. This port is for a server and receives a request from a client. The request includes a universal resource identifier to a destination. A determination is made as to whether the request requires encryption using the universal resource identifier in the request. The request is sent through the port to the destination in an encrypted form, in response to a determination that the request requires encryption.

  • Patent number: 8311211
Abstract: An approach that smoothes a cryptographic function's timing footprint is presented. A processor includes a “function timing smoother” that smoothes out spikes in the amount of time that a particular cryptographic function requires to execute. When a cryptographic function executes, the function timing smoother tracks the amount of time that the cryptographic function executes (current execution time) and compares the time with the amount of time that the same cryptographic function took for a previous execution (previous execution time). When the current execution time is less than the previous execution time, the function timing smoother adds instructions or varies an execution unit's clock speed in order to increase the cryptographic function's current execution time. Using this approach, a malicious user is not able to decipher sensitive information from the cryptographic function's timing footprint.

  • Publication number: 20120221959
Abstract: A method and system for managing a multi-focus remote control session (RCS) within a computer system. A unique identifier (UserID) of each user and associated input devices are registered to the RCS. The users have shared concurrent control of a computer screen via the input devices. Responsive to selection of windows within the computer screen by the input devices, concurrently operative focus is provided to each selected window and is specific to the UserID associated with the input device that selected the window. Each selected window having focus may be accessed and manipulated by only the input devices associated with the UserID to which the focus provided to each selected window is specific. The selected windows to which focus has been provided are recording in a computer readable medium in association with the UserID specific to the selection of the windows.

  • Patent number: 8156497
Abstract: A mechanism for sharing tasks is provided in which individuals in a share group may signal their intent to complete individual shared tasks and communicate that intent to other individuals in the share group. A required time for completion of the shared tasks may be associated with an individual's signaling of the intent to complete the shared task. The completion of the shared task by the individual signaling intent to complete may be monitored and, if not completed within the associated required time, the performance of the shared task may again be shared with the individuals of the share group. In this way, another individual may signal that individual's intent to perform the shared task and the process may be repeated until the shared task is completed.

  • Patent number: 8146013
Abstract: Mechanisms to allow authorized popup windows on a website are provided. With the mechanisms, one or more identifiers of authorized popup window sources are associated with website content. When the website content is downloaded to a client device in response to a request, the one or more identifiers are also provided to the client device. A popup blocker application resident on the client device uses the one or more identifiers to generate a filter list of authorized popup window sources against which the source of popup windows may be compared when the popup window attempts to be loaded into the browser. If the source of the popup window that is attempting to be loaded is not present in the list of authorized sources of popup windows, then the loading and output of the popup window content is blocked.

  • Patent number: 8122517
Abstract: The present invention can include a method, computer program product, and system for mediating access to content of a software dump. The invention can identify an event occurring within a computing device, which causes data to be dumped to file. A dump file can be created responsive to the event, wherein the dump file includes data defining a state of the computing device. Using an analysis module to analyze the dump file to determine content to be placed in a tailored dump file. In one embodiment, custom analysis modules or custom modifications to existing analysis modules can be added to the computing device at any time, which permits a tailoring of dumps to cover circumstances not originally known in advance of a situation for which they are needed. The tailored dump file can include a subset of the content of the dump file for which access privileges have been granted in accordance with the analysis module. The output file can be created, which comprises the determined content.

  • Patent number: 8010891
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention address deficiencies of the art in respect to extensible markup language (XML) data processing and provide a novel and non-obvious method, system and computer program product for inter-device transfer of parsed XML documents. In one embodiment of the invention, a markup serialization method can be provided. The method can include receiving a request in a second computing process for offloaded parsing of markup from an application in a first computing process, retrieving markup from the application, parsing the markup in the second computing process to produce a serialized data object for the markup, placing the serialized data object into shared memory for the application, and returning a reference to the serialized data to the application.

  • Patent number: 7877765
Abstract: A method and system are provided in which DVR viewer metrics are collected and saved in a “Watched Log” data base including identifying titles and other features of recorded DVR programs. User viewing metrics are collected and saved for use in determining whether or not future shows are recorded. After a DVR user watches a TV or other video show episode, the show episode will be added to the Watched Log. Subsequently, before recording a new TV show, the DVR device can determine the viewer's actions with regard to previous similar shows and factor such information into a decision regarding the recording of the new show.
