  • Publication number: 20200015253
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for offloading traffic flows without service disruption are disclosed herein. User equipment (UE) is configured to receive an indication that a current packet data network (PDN) connection can be optimized. The current PDN connection is established over a first PDN gateway (PGW). The UE requests connection over a new PDN connection to a same type of service as the current PDN connection without releasing the connection over the first PGW. The UE routes new traffic flows over a second PGW corresponding to the new PDN connection and routes old traffic flows over the first PGW.

  • Publication number: 20190357101
Abstract: Embodiments of an Evolved Node-B (eNB), User Equipment (UE) and methods for communication are generally described herein. The eNB may receive, from a mobility management entity (MME), a path switch trigger message that indicates an identifier of an eRelay UE for a relay arrangement for an eRemote UE. The eNB may determine whether the eRelay UE is served by the eNB. The eNB may, if it is determined that the eRelay UE is served by the eNB, transmit a radio resource control (RRC) connection reconfiguration message to the eRemote UE. The RRC connection reconfiguration message may indicate a switch from a direct communication to an indirect communication between the eRemote UE and the eNB. The indirect communication may be through the eRelay UE in accordance with the relay arrangement.

  • Patent number: 10425846
Abstract: Embodiments of system and method configurations for device discovery and connection establishment in connection with use of device-to-device (D2D) and proximity-based services are generally described herein. In some examples, an evolved packet core (EPC) of a 3GPP Long Term Evolution or 3GPP Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE/LTE-A) network is arranged to assist D2D identification and discovery procedures at user equipment (UEs) connected to the LTE/LTE-A network. Various identification and discovery procedures may be implemented in connection with proximity detection and the establishment of communication times for the establishment of the D2D communication link, between the UEs. Accordingly, the EPC of the LTE/LTE-A network may assist the establishment of a device-to-device communication link between UEs on a wireless network employing a distinct wireless protocol (for example, a direct wireless network connection via a wireless local area network (WLAN) or wireless personal area network (WPAN)).

  • Publication number: 20190200228
Abstract: Disclosed herein are user equipment (UE) configured to communicate with a vehicle-to-everything (V2X) control function (CF) and a V2X Key Management Function (KMF). The UE includes processing circuitry configured to select a broadcast service from a plurality of available broadcast services and encode a key request message for transmission to the V2X KMF. The key request message includes a service identification (ID) of the selected broadcast service and identification of V2X security techniques supported by the UE. A key response message received from the V2X KMF in response to the key request message is decoded. The key response message identifies a V2X security technique of the V2X security techniques. The identified V2X security technique is execute to obtain security credentials provisioned by the V2X KMF. Data is encoded for transmission to a second UE during the selected broadcast service, where the encoding is based on the provisioned security credentials.

  • Patent number: 10327163
Abstract: Embodiments of a UE and methods for D2D communication are generally described herein. The UE may transmit, as part of an in-network communication session, a D2D discovery status message. The D2D discovery status message may indicate an initiation or termination of a D2D discovery operation at the UE and may indicate if the UE is announcing or monitoring as part of the D2D discovery operation. The D2D discovery operation may be at least partly for configuring a D2D communication session between the UE and one or more other UEs. The UE may transmit, as part of the D2D discovery operation, a D2D discovery signal for reception at one or more other UEs. The UE may transmit and receive D2D packets over a direct link to a second UE as part of the D2D communication session.

  • Publication number: 20190116518
Abstract: Systems and methods of segregating a SDF of a PDU session are described. The UE transmits a NAS message to the network. The NAS message indicates the SDF, the desired QoS, and a segregation indication that requests that the network establish a separate QoS flow for the SDF even if an existing QoS flow is able to support the specific QoS. The SMF decides whether or not to establish the separate QoS flow and updates filters in the UPF as well as providing a response to the UE containing a similar indication. The UE modifies resources related to the PDU session based on the response. The QoS is indicated as a 5QI and GBR or as a QFI of an existing QoS Flow on which the SDF is to be added if the separate QoS is not established. The QFI is in an unencrypted SDAP header of the NAS message.

  • Patent number: 10264482
Abstract: When a UE in an LTE system enters the RRC_IDLE state, only the S5/S8 EPS bearer context is retained, and the S1-U, S1-AP and radio bearers are released. These bearers have to be re-established on per UE basis when the UE returns to RRC_CONNECTED state. A number of UE applications may send small data frequently, which causes the UE to toggle between IDLE and CONNECTED states. This leads to a great deal of signaling overhead as the radio bearer and the S1-U bearer must be frequently re-established as the UE transitions between IDLE to CONNECTED states. Described herein are methods and systems that provide an always-on S1-U bearer to reduce this signaling overhead.

  • Patent number: 10129925
Abstract: Technology that allows PDN connections for a UE to be resumed efficiently after WLAN connectivity is lost and then regained are disclosed. A UE can have a multi-legged or multi-access packet-data-network (PDN) connection that is used to communicate with a WLAN and with an eNB. When WLAN connectivity is lost, the UE can send a WLAN-connectivity-loss communication to a PDN-GW via the eNB. A TWAG can also detect that the UE's WLAN connectivity has been lost and can send a suspension communication to the PDN-GW. The TWAG can also store PDN context information for the UE for a predefined period of time. When the UE regains WLAN connectivity, the UE can send a WLAN-link-control-protocol (WLCP) communication to the TWAG indicating that the UE wishes to resume one or more PDN connections that were previously suspended.
