  • Publication number: 20040180684
Abstract: An algorithm calculates a correction value to be applied to a slot in an adjustment period for power correction. The adjustment period is divided into segments having a plurality of slots, and a target power value is determined for each segment. For each slot, the algorithm determines whether adding a correction value in a given slot would bring the actual accumulative adjustment value closer or farther from the target power value for the segment corresponding to the given slot. The correction value is added to consecutive slots in the segment. The algorithm also checks the total amount of adjustment applied to the slots over a sliding adjustment window to make sure that the total amount of adjustment applied to the slots in the window do not exceed a predetermined maximum threshold.

  • Patent number: 6760597
Abstract: A power control method for reverse links used in soft handoff mode between a mobile and base stations of a CDMA wireless communication network. Each of the base stations computes a setpoint based on the quality of received frames. The lowest setpoint value is then used as a threshold for inner loop operation causing at least one of the reverse links to convey information in compliance with a target FER set by the network.

  • Publication number: 20040095918
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting discontinued transmission (DTX) frames in data frames received over a link or channel, is described, where a DTX frame is a frame that does not carry data and which is transmitted with zero power over the link or channel. The method and apparatus determines whether a received data frame is a DTX frame based on a plurality of metrics. Based on the metrics, the method and apparatus may effectively discriminate a case where a data frame is received as an erasure (e.g., data frame received with errors), and a case where a transmitted data frame is received as a DTX frame.

  • Publication number: 20040081097
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting discontinued transmission (DTX) frames in data frames received over a link or channel, is described, where a DTX frame is a frame that does not carry data and which is transmitted with zero power over the link or channel. The method calculates a data rate of a channel over which data frames are being transmitted, sets a threshold based on the data rate, and determines whether a received data frame is a DTX frame based on the threshold. The apparatus can effectively discriminate a case where a data frame is received as an erasure (e.g., data frame received with errors), and a case where a transmitted data frame is received as a DTX frame.

  • Patent number: 6662019
Abstract: A method and apparatus for estimating the initial power level and transmission rate of a burst on a secondary channel when the secondary channel is on fewer legs of a handoff, such as a soft or softer handoff, than the primary channel. In accordance with the present invention, the initial power level of the burst transmitted over a current secondary channel on a particular leg(s) is a function of a power level of a previous burst transmitted over a previous secondary channel on the identical leg(s) as the current secondary channel. For example, the initial power level of the burst can be based on the power level at the end of the previous burst shortly prior to the termination of the previous burst, where the termination of the previous burst was within a predetermined time interval of the start of the burst.

  • Patent number: 6618598
Abstract: A method for determining the initial power to be allocated to a secondary channel having a desired data rate. An SNR setpoint is first calculated where such setpoint is based on the SNR setpoint of the associated primary channel and system offset values. The initial power is then calculated based on the calculated setpoint.

  • Patent number: 6606496
Abstract: A method/apparatus identifies other cell interference in a wireless network and determines whether a handoff to an affected base station should occur. In one implementation, a base station of a CDMA-based wireless network continuously monitors reverse link interference levels to detect an increased interference condition, and initiates a CDMA mobile identifying sequence to determine whether the interfering signal source is a proximate mobile being served by a neighboring base station of the network. The affected base station obtains a list of long code masks for mobiles being served by neighboring base stations, and instructs at least one receiver unit to sequentially despread received signals using each of the listed long code masks. When the receiver unit detects a signal transmitted by a non-served mobile, the base station analyzes relative reverse link signal strength for the non-served mobile, e.g.

  • Patent number: 6400960
Abstract: A method of calculating a power threshold for a secondary communication channel capable of operating in DTX mode in forward or reverse links so that the communication channel is prevented from entering a deadlock state. Power threshold information for an associated primary channel and the secondary channel are used to update the established power threshold for the communication channel. The updated power threshold for the communication is thus calculated by combining previously established thresholds for the communication channel and associated primary channel with a current established threshold for the associated primary channel.
