  • Publication number: 20230198706
Abstract: Methods of compact Tracking Reference Signal (TRS) configuration for New Radio (NR) User Equipment (UE) are provided. The Channel State Information Reference Signal (CSI-RS) configuration framework through which the TRS is traditionally configured in connected mode is quite hefty in terms of number of possibilities and Information Elements (IEs) included in its structures. It entails IEs that can be used for configuration of multiple sets (up to 16) of both Zero Power (ZP) and Non-Zero Power (NZP) CSI-RSs. Each of these sets can itself include configuration of up to 64 resources. In order to be able to provide TRS configuration and availability information to the UEs in Radio Resource Control (RRC) Idle/Inactive states, a compact TRS mechanism is disclosed through which the network can configure the UE with specific TRSs.

  • Patent number: 11671939
Abstract: A method for handling paging from a network node is performed by a wireless device. The wireless device is part of a group of wireless devices communicating with each other over a short-range connection and communicating with a node over a long-range wireless connection at respective predefined occasions. The predefined occasions are defined by a power save mode configuration collectively determined for the group of wireless devices. The paging, when received during the predefined occasions for the wireless device, is received from the node. The method further comprises transmitting, when the paging is targeted for the wireless device itself, a paging response towards the node. The method further comprises forwarding, when the paging is targeted for another one of the wireless devices in the group of wireless devices, the paging to the targeted wireless device over the short-range connection.

  • Publication number: 20230156572
Abstract: Methods and apparatus in a communication system for search space switching are disclosed. A method performed by a network node in a communication system that includes more than one search space group includes generating a downlink control information, DCI, message, and transmitting the DCI message on a downlink control channel, wherein the DCI message causes a user equipment, UE, to switch from monitoring a first search space group to monitoring a second search space group in response to successfully decoding the DCI message. A method performed by a UE in the communication system, wherein the UE is configured to monitor a first search space group, includes receiving a DCI message on a downlink control channel; and switching from monitoring the first search space group to monitoring a second search space group in response to successfully decoding the DCI message.

  • Publication number: 20230127023
Abstract: An access node (110) configures a User Equipment, UE (105), with a power saving monitoring pattern, and subsequently transmits a power saving signal configured to switch the UE (105) from monitoring a downlink in accordance with a connected mode discontinuous reception, C-DRX, monitoring pattern to monitoring the downlink in accordance with the power saving monitoring pattern. For each of the monitoring patterns, monitoring the down-link in accordance with the monitoring pattern comprises monitoring the down-link only when a monitoring opportunity of the monitoring pattern is concurrent with a scheduled active interval of a C-DRX configuration of the UE (105). For any C-DRX cycle of the C-DRX configuration, the monitoring of the downlink in accordance with the power saving monitoring pattern has a shorter monitoring duration than the monitoring of the downlink in accordance with the C-DRX monitoring pattern.

  • Publication number: 20230112994
Abstract: A simulated Public Warning System (PWS) message is defined for efficient PWS testing. The simulated PWS message mimics a conventional PWS message, but indicates that it is not to be propagated across an air interface to UEs. However, the simulated PWS message is otherwise propagated through the network as a PWS message. This allows for testing the generation and propagation of PWS messages, without wasting valuable air interface and battery resources. In some embodiments, network nodes may initiate testing by requesting a simulated PWS message. An Access and Mobility management Function (AMF) node in a wireless communication network collects and reports network status to a PWS entity. The AMF node ascertains the functionality of network functions, nodes, and interfaces to which it is connected, independently from receiving reports of such functionality, and an indication of any detected fault or failure is sent to the PWS entity.

  • Publication number: 20230116231
Abstract: A user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication network determines a snapshot value of a serving link signal received quality while the UE is permitted to refrain from performing neighbor link measurements. Responsive to detecting, while the UE is permitted to refrain from performing neighbor link measurements, that signal received quality of a serving link has dropped by at least a threshold amount below the snapshot value, the UE performs a neighbor link measurement.

  • Publication number: 20230104198
Abstract: Power savings is achieved by configuring the UE with a sparse search space for power savings and a packed search space for normal PDCCH monitoring. The network is aware of the search space being monitored by the UE and can signal the UE to switch between the two search spaces by sending downlink control information (DCI) to the UE in the search space being monitored by the UE. To conserve power, the network switches the UE to the sparse search space for PDCCH monitoring, which requires less energy than PDCCH monitoring in the packed search space. When the network expects to have downlink data to send, the network sends downlink control information (DCI) to the UE in the sparse search space to cause the UE to switch to the packed search space. The DCI may comprise scheduling information, or a WUS-like signal indicating that the UE should switch search spaces for PDCCH monitoring.

  • Publication number: 20230097818
Abstract: Embodiments include methods, performed by a user equipment (UE), for selective transmission or reception of signals or channels with a wireless network. Such methods include receiving a first physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) transmission from the wireless network. Such methods also include, without determining whether a signal or channel is scheduled for the UE during a first duration immediately following the first PDCCH transmission, refraining from transmitting or receiving any signals or channels during the first duration. The first duration can be based on one or more of the following: predicted scheduling characteristics for the PDCCH; UE operating conditions; and communication characteristics of an application running on the UE. In some embodiments, such methods can also include determining the predicted scheduling characteristics based on a plurality of second PDCCH transmissions received, from the wireless network, before the first PDCCH transmission.

  • Publication number: 20230078444
Abstract: Embodiments include methods, performed by a user equipment (UE), for receiving reference signals (RS) in a wireless network. Such methods include receiving, from a network node in the wireless network, a configuration for connected-state RS transmitted by the network node. In some embodiments, the connected-state RS can be periodic channel state information RS (CSI-RS) or periodic tracking RS (TRS). Such methods include, while the UE is in a non-connected state and based on the received configuration, determining that the connected-state RS are available during one or more first occasions. Such methods include, while the UE is in the non-connected state, selectively receiving the connected-state RS during the first occasions. Other embodiments include complementary methods performed by a network node, as well as UEs and network nodes configured to perform such methods.
