  • Publication number: 20230319882
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A first wireless communications device may transmit, to one or more second wireless communications devices, a first message that triggers transmission of a second message by each of the one or more second wireless communications devices, the first message allocating to each of the one or more second wireless communications devices a respective frequency-based resource unit for transmission of the second message, each of the respective frequency-based resource units spanning a portion of a channel bandwidth of a channel. The first wireless communications device may perform channel sensing measurements on the second message received from each of the one or more second wireless communications devices. The first wireless communications device may estimate the channel based on the channel sensing measurements performed on the respective second messages received on the respective frequency-based resource units.

  • Publication number: 20230319691
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices, and systems for performing passive scanning operations on one or more wireless channels. In some implementations, a wireless communication device configures an off-channel scan time and a passive scanning period for passive scanning operations based on latency requirements of a low-latency application, and selects a home channel dwell time for the passive scanning operations. The wireless communication device may perform the passive scanning operation by alternating between listening for beacon frames on one or more second wireless channels for the configured off-channel scan time and dwelling on a home channel for the selected home channel dwell time during a first portion of the configured scanning period. The wireless communication device also may listen for beacon frames on the one or more second wireless channels during a second portion of the configured scanning period that is defined by the selected home channel dwell time.

  • Patent number: 11764847
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for radio frequency (RF) sensing in wireless communication systems. In some implementations, a transmitter device transmits sounding sequences configured for channel estimation over a wireless channel to a receiver device. The transmitter device also transmits or receives non-sounding frames associated with a channel report of the receiver device. The transmitter device transmits a frame soliciting the channel report from the receiver device. The transmitter device receives the channel report, which may include channel state information (CSI) of the wireless channel responsive to at least the sounding sequences. Some types of channel reports may take longer to generate than other types of channel reports. Transmitting or receiving the non-sounding frames during the time period may prevent other devices from accessing the wireless channel when the receiver device needs additional time to generate a certain type of channel report.

  • Publication number: 20230236303
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for radio frequency (RF) sensing in the millimeter-wave frequency spectrum that can be performed over multiple phases. During a session setup phase, a radar initiator identifies one or more wireless stations (STAs) that are capable of radar ranging and sets up a radar measurement session that includes at least one of the identified STAs. During a measurement negotiation phase, the radar initiator performs a respective beamforming training operation with each STA and indicates, to each STA, one or more parameters associated with the radar measurement session. During a radar measurement phase, the radar initiator transmits radar setup information to, and receives ranging information from, each STA. In some aspects, the radar initiator may perform an object detection operation that indicates a location of an object associated with the ranging information received from each radar STA.

  • Publication number: 20230113177
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for generating a secure long training field (LTF). In some implementations, the secure LTF may include a randomized bit sequence that is difficult, if not impossible, to replicate by any device other than the transmitting device and the intended receiving device. For example, the transmitting device may use a block cipher or stream cipher to generate a pseudorandom bit sequence and may select a subset of bits of the pseudorandom bit sequence to be mapped to a sequence of modulation symbols representing an LTF symbol of the secure LTF. More specifically, each of the modulation symbols is mapped to a respective one of a number of subcarriers spanning a bandwidth of the secure LTF. The transmitting device may further transmit a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) that includes the secure LTF to the receiving device.

  • Publication number: 20230033864
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A station (STA) may receive a null data packet (NDP) on a plurality of subcarriers, and the STA may generate a channel state information (CSI) matrix for each subcarrier of the plurality of subcarriers. After generating a CSI matrix for a subcarrier, such as at least one subcarrier, the STA may scale each value in the CSI matrix using a power-of-two value to minimize complexity. Specifically, instead of scaling each value in the CSI matrix to a value between zero and one using divisions (for example, which may be computationally expensive), the STA may use shifting to scale each value in the CSI matrix. The STA may then quantize the scaled values in the CSI matrix for reporting, and the STA may transmit the quantized, scaled values in the CSI matrix in a CSI report.

  • Publication number: 20230009140
Abstract: In some implementations, an initiator device establishes a measurement session with each of a plurality of responder devices based at least in part on their capabilities. The initiator device negotiates, with each of the responder devices, a respective set of one or more sensing parameters based at least in part on the capabilities of the initiator device and the capabilities of the respective responder device, the respective sets of sensing parameters associated with the responder devices being identified by a unique Measurement Setup identifier (ID). The initiator device performs one or more measurement instances with the responder devices based on the respective sets of sensing parameters, each measurement instance identified by a unique Measurement Instance ID and the respective Measurement Setup ID. The initiator device obtains, from each responder device, one or more measurement reports indicating channel state information (CSI) based on the one or more respective measurement instances.

  • Publication number: 20220353705
Abstract: Wireless offloading provides tools to a service provider to encourage or direct a subscriber to offload from a first network, e.g., a cellular network, to a second network, e.g., a Wi-Fi network. The cellular service provider can use network data to determine wireless offloading priorities for cellular subscribers on an individual or group basis. The cellular service provider may use wireless network data it has and/or wireless network data it learns about networks from the wireless devices (which may obtain Wi-Fi network data from beacon frames of Wi-Fi networks or active scanning and which may report to the cellular service provider). Each wireless device can be given scanning assignments to ensure that the reporting task is shared among subscribers or adjusted to fill in gaps in data. With the network data, the cellular service provider is capable of generating useful prioritized network lists for wireless devices, either individually or as a group.

  • Patent number: 11431539
Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for improving the security of secure long training field (LTF) transmissions. In some implementations, a transmitting device may perform windowing on a secure LTF, in the frequency domain, so that the resulting time-domain LTF signal is difficult, if not impossible, to predict by any device that observes a portion of the LTF signal. In some aspects, the transmitting device may negotiate the windowing of secure LTFs with a receiving device based on fine timing measurement (FTM) negotiation frames exchanged at the start of an FTM procedure. In some other aspects, the transmitting device may dynamically or adaptively perform windowing on secure LTFs. In such aspects, the transmitting device may indicate whether windowing is performed on a secure LTF based on information carried in a signal field of a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) that includes the secure LTF.
