  • Publication number: 20190274056
Abstract: Wireless offloading provides tools to a service provider to encourage or direct a subscriber to offload from a first network, e.g., a cellular network, to a second network, e.g., a Wi-Fi network. The cellular service provider can use network data to determine wireless offloading priorities for cellular subscribers on an individual or group basis. The cellular service provider may use wireless network data it has and/or wireless network data it learns about networks from the wireless devices (which may obtain Wi-Fi network data from beacon frames of Wi-Fi networks or active scanning and which may report to the cellular service provider). Each wireless device can be given scanning assignments to ensure that the reporting task is shared among subscribers or adjusted to fill in gaps in data. With the network data, the cellular service provider is capable of generating useful prioritized network lists for wireless devices, either individually or as a group.

  • Publication number: 20190166572
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Stations within a neighborhood awareness network (NAN) may determine when to transmit synchronization beacons during a wake-up time based on some priority (e.g., stations with more recent clock updates or earlier time stamps, stations communicating with a larger number of peers or associated with a larger number of NAN device links (NDLs), etc. may transmit beacons earlier in a wake-up window or with a higher probability). Other stations within the NAN may maintain clock synchronization based on the transmitted beacons (e.g., that include recently updated clock information). Additionally or alternatively, a station may signal other stations within a NAN when the station detects disappearance of synchronization beacons (e.g., or loss of clock synchronization). In some cases, the signaling may include requests for the one or more other stations to start or stop beacon transmissions as desired.

  • Patent number: 10277425
Abstract: Generally, the described techniques provide for protection mechanisms for sounding training signals transmitted between wireless devices when performing ranging sounding estimation. For example, sounding training signals may be encoded to include a sequence of phase rotations or cyclic shifts to protect the sounding training signal from peer devices. In some cases, encoding information associated with a long training field (LTF) may be transmitted either before or after the LTF is transmitted. Additionally or alternatively, a time delay may be introduced to the sounding training signal, where timing information may be removed from one or more fields of the sounding training signal and the time delay may be appended to an interframe spacing. Alternatively, a frame may be split into multiple frames with the sounding training signal in a first frame, and timing information in a second frame that is offset in time from the first frame.

  • Publication number: 20190036739
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A ranging message procedure may employ protection by modifying a cyclic prefix of the ranging message to prevent an attacking device from transmitting a time-advanced copy of the cyclic prefix during symbol of the copied signal. For example, the modified cyclic prefix may include pseudo random training sequences or a set of zero-value symbols. The receiving device may determine a channel estimation technique that accounts for the modified cyclic prefix. The wireless devices performing the ranging measurement process may determine a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) for the ranging message. The wireless devices may negotiate an MCS value and cyclic prefix configuration for the ranging measurement process. In some examples, the ranging message be encoded by applying a sequence of phase rotations or amplitude variations to the base sequence used to generate the sounding training signal.
