  • Publication number: 20050227640
Abstract: A method and apparatus for dynamically adjusting the impedance between a transmitter's power amplifier (PA) and antenna to efficiently transfer power from the PA to the antenna. The impedance between the PA and the antenna is adjusted based on power level measurements and/or PA direct current (DC) consumption measurements, depending on whether the PA is a linear PA or a switch-mode PA. In another embodiment, a hybrid PA including a first stage linear PA and a second stage switch-mode PA is implemented in a transmitter. The hybrid PA selectively connects the output of the first stage linear PA to one of the input of the second stage switch-mode PA and the output of the hybrid PA, depending on the output power level of the first stage linear PA, the output power level of the hybrid PA, or a requirement indicated by a transmit power control (TPC) command.

  • Publication number: 20050170796
Abstract: A method and system for adjusting the amplitude and phase characteristics of wireless communication signals generated by an analog radio transmitter, based on transmit power control (TPC) signals received by a base station (BS) and known characteristics of a power amplifier (PA) included in the transmitter. A digital pre-distortion compensation module, having real and imaginary signal paths, receives and processes real and imaginary signal components used to generate the wireless communication signal. The phase and amplitude characteristics of the wireless communication signal are controlled in response to the TPC signals, such that impaired amplitude and phase characteristics of the PA are corrected.

  • Publication number: 20050163266
Abstract: Method and apparatus for adjusting the frequency of a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) at a receiver to synchronize the receiver with the transmitter by correlating a synchronization code channel with training sequences to estimate positive and negative offsets which are employed to estimate an error, which is then filtered. • Publication number: 20040264560
Abstract: A digital baseband (DBB) radio frequency (RF) receiver used for receiving and processing a wireless communication signal. The DBB RF receiver includes a demodulator, an analog to digital converter (ADC) and a digital cross-talk compensation module. The demodulator outputs analog real and imaginary signal components on real and imaginary signal paths, respectively, in response to receiving the communication signal. The ADC receives the analog real and imaginary signal components and outputs respective digital real and imaginary signal components. The digital cross-talk compensation module receives the digital real and imaginary signal components, estimates the cross-talk interference caused by each of the signal components, and outputs digital real and imaginary cross-talk compensated signal components.

  • Publication number: 20040264601
Abstract: A digital baseband (DBB) radio frequency (RF) receiver includes a digital high pass filter compensation (HPFC) module used to suppress group delay variation distortion caused by using low cost analog high pass filters (HPFs) in the receiver. The digital HPFC module reduces a cutoff frequency, established by the HPFs for the real and imaginary signal component frequency domain responses by providing a first compensation signal having a first predetermined value (K1). The digital HPFC module adjusts the gain of the high pass response of the real and imaginary signal component frequency domains by providing a second compensation signal having a second predetermined value (K2).

  • Publication number: 20040248516
Abstract: In order to compensate for performance degradation caused by inferior low-cost analog radio component tolerances of an analog radio, a wireless communication transmitter employs a control process to implement numerous digital signal processing (DSP) techniques to compensate for deficiencies of such analog components so that modern specifications may be relaxed. By monitoring a plurality of parameters associated with the analog radio, such as temperature, bias current or the like, enhanced phase and amplitude compensation, as well as many other radio frequency (RF) parameters may be implemented.

  • Publication number: 20040247056
Abstract: A communication system including an amplifier, a receiver, an analog to digital converter (ADC) and an insertion phase variation compensation module. The amplifier receives a communication signal. If the amplifier is enabled, the amplifier amplifies the communication signal and outputs the amplified communication signal to the receiver. If the amplifier is disabled, the amplifier passes the communication signal to the receiver without amplifying it. The receiver outputs an analog complex signal to the ADC. The ADC outputs a digital complex signal to the insertion phase variation compensation module which counteracts the effects of a phase offset intermittently introduced into the communication signal when the amplifier is enabled or disabled.

  • Patent number: 6826244
Abstract: A system and method for establishing initial synchronization for the link between a UE and a base station in a communication network uses window exclusion logic in order to avoid a deadlock condition upon a detection of the wrong public land mobile network (PLMN). The communication signal is processed in a three step decision process. The first decision step determines a chip offset of the strongest path detected over a frame of samples. In response to the first decision, the second step generates a scrambling code group number and slot offset for retrieving the secondary synchronization code. The third decision step retrieves a primary scrambling code in response to the code group number for synchronizing the UE to the base station.

  • Patent number: 6804315
Abstract: The present invention is a user equipment (UE) comprising a system for establishing a communication link. The system includes a first, second and third module and a controller. The first module first processes a communication signal and generates an index value associated with a primary synchronization code within the communication signal. The second module second processes the communication signal in response to the index value and a peak sample extracted from the first module and retrieves a code group number, slot offset and secondary synchronization code. The third module third processes the communication signal and retrieves a primary scrambling code in response to the code group number and the slot offset. The controller, which is coupled to the first, second and third modules, controls the adjustment of a search frequency of the UE to retrieve the primary scrambling code in the communication signal.

  • Publication number: 20040125788
Abstract: The invention provides embodiments to facilitate cell search. In one embodiment, received samples are split into a plurality of sample sets for processing. Each of the sets is processed and an accumulated result is divided by an estimated noise value. In another embodiment, a code correlator correlates the received signal with a primary synchronization code and an auxiliary code correlator having a same length as the code correlator correlates the received signal with a code having a low cross correlation with the primary synchronization code. In another embodiment, a division of an accumulated result with a noise estimate is performed using indexes of the most significant bits.
