  • Publication number: 20190011912
Abstract: A method for operating a driverless vehicle may include receiving, at the driverless vehicle, sensor signals related to operation of the driverless vehicle, and road network data from a road network data store. The method may also include determining a driving corridor within which the driverless vehicle travels according to a trajectory, and causing the driverless vehicle to traverse a road network autonomously according to a path from a first geographic location to a second geographic location. The method may also include determining that an event associated with the path has occurred, and sending communication signals to a teleoperations system including a request for guidance and one or more of sensor data and the road network data. The method may include receiving, at the driverless vehicle, teleoperations signals from the teleoperations system, such that the vehicle controller determines a revised trajectory based at least in part on the teleoperations signals.

  • Patent number: 9919946
Abstract: A method for forming an optical fiber preform and fibers drawn from the preform. The method includes forming a soot cladding monolith, inserting a consolidated core cane into the internal cavity, and processing the resulting core-cladding assembly to form a preform. Processing may include exposing the core-cladding assembly to a drying agent and/or dopant precursor, and sintering the core-cladding assembly in the presence of a reducing agent to densify the soot cladding monolith onto the core cane to form a preform. The preform features low hydroxyl content and low sensitivity to hydrogen. Fibers drawn from the preform exhibit low attenuation losses from absorption by the broad band centered near 1380 nm.

  • Publication number: 20140231360
Abstract: A system for treating wastewater includes an aeration tank having a plurality of air diffusers located within the tank. Air delivery equipment provides air to the tank via air diffusers. An ammonia sensor located near or upstream of the wastewater inlet is used by a controller to measure the ammonia content of the wastewater at the inlet. The controller then modifies the actual airflow provided to the tank based on a prediction of the level of air flow required to fully treat the wastewater before it reaches the outlet and controls the air source to provide the predicted level of air flow.

  • Publication number: 20140174133
Abstract: Methods for forming optical fiber preforms are disclosed. According to one embodiment, a method for forming an optical fiber preform includes forming a preform core portion from silica-based glass soot. The silica-based glass soot may include at least one dopant species for altering an index of refraction of the preform core portion. A selective diffusion layer of silica-based glass soot may be formed around the preform core portion to form a soot preform. The selective diffusion layer may have an as-formed density greater than the density of the preform core portion. A diffusing species may be diffused through the selective diffusion layer into the preform core portion. The soot preform may be sintered such that the selective diffusion layer has a barrier density which is greater than the as-formed density and the selective diffusion layer prevents diffusion of the at least one dopant species through the selective diffusion layer.
