  • Patent number: 9247526
Abstract: This disclosure describes systems, methods, and devices for paging message enhancement, for example, by allowing packets to accumulate in an access point before sending them to a station. In some implementations, a station may not have an immediate use for a packet waiting in an access point's buffer. The station may save energy and reduce medium occupancy by allowing packets to accumulate at the access point and then receiving the accumulated packets in accordance with certain criteria. Such criteria for accumulation may be based on a Quality of Service (QoS) category, the station address, or the station type. The station may set accumulation parameters, such as a maximum occupied buffer size or a maximum time for which a station's packets are delayed for accumulation.

  • Patent number: 9191890
Abstract: IEEE 802.11 power saving mode (PSM) defines two different power modes under which stations operate: active mode and power save (PS) mode. This disclosure introduces devices, methods, and systems to implement an additional power save with ultra low power (PS-ULP) mode that further reduces power consumption. In one aspect, a method of communicating a power management mode of a station on a wireless network is disclosed. The method includes transmitting by a station a first message on the wireless network, the first message indicating one of at least three power management modes, wherein the indication is communicated in a power management portion of a frame control field of a media access control header. The power management portion comprises more than one bit; and operating the station in a power management state in accordance with the indicated power management mode.

  • Publication number: 20150195741
Abstract: Systems and methods for wireless communications are disclosed. More particularly, aspects generally relate to techniques for indicating a minimum and maximum channel bandwidth in a frame (e.g., short frame). One or more bits in the frame, for example a management frame, may indicate both minimum and maximum bandwidths for communicating in the network. According to aspects, a wireless terminal may determine the minimum and maximum bandwidths for communicating in the network based on a mapping of different values of the one or more bits to combinations of minimum and maximum bandwidths. While any field in the frame may indicate the minimum and maximum bandwidth, according to aspects, the Basic Service Set (BSS) bandwidth (BW) field may be used for the indication.
