  • Publication number: 20130195959
Abstract: The present disclosure is drawn to compositions and methods of making and using lyophilized platelet lysates. Specifically, a method of preparing a composition suitable for therapeutic use or as a culture medium can comprise steps of concentrating platelets from a platelet source to form a platelet rich portion of the platelet source, and lysing the platelets in the platelet rich portion to form a plurality of lysates. An additional step includes lyophilizing the lysates to form lyophilized platelet lysates in a composition with released concentrations of available growth factors, cytokines, and chemokines. In one example, at 30%, by platelet count, of platelets from a platelet source can be lysed using this process.

  • Patent number: 8494900
Abstract: Documents or document sets may be scored to reflect a value of an action, such as a selection for example, when an ad is served with the document (or a document belonging to a document set). A cost associated with the action with respect to an ad that was served with a document may then be adjusted using the score. For example, ad scores may be accepted or determined, and a document may be scored using the ad scores when served with the document and ad scores across a collection of documents to generate a document score. Each of the ad scores may indicate a value of an action with respect to an ad, such as a conversion rate, or a return on investment for an ad selection for example. Document scores used in this way may help advertisers get a more consistent cost per conversion, or return on investment, without requiring them to enter and manage various offers for various documents and/or various ad serving systems having various conversion rates or returns on investment.

  • Publication number: 20120316890
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for facilitating an automated configuration of a component of a practice management system for use by a healthcare provider associated with a medical practice. An initial configuration of the component is generated based, at least in part, on global content stored by the practice management system. A self-service implementation tool provided by the practice management system enables a user at the medical practice to refine the initial configuration via a user interface that presents the user with a plurality of tasks to perform. By allowing providers to actively participate in the configuration process by completing assigned tasks via the user interface, the process of configuring a component of the practice management system is simplified compared to conventional practice management systems, which often require an administrator of the practice management system to create a customized solution for each provider or medical practice from scratch.

  • Patent number: 8307187
Abstract: A method for managing storage for a desktop pool is described. The desktop pool includes a plurality of virtual machines (VMs), each VM having at least one virtual disk represented as a virtual disk image file on one of a plurality of datastores associated with the desktop pool. To identify a target datastore for a VM, a weight of each datastore is calculated. The weight may be a function of a virtual capacity of the datastore and the sum of maximum sizes of all the virtual disk image files on the datastore. The virtual capacity is a product of the data storage capacity of the datastore and an overcommit factor assigned to the datastore. The target datastore is selected as the datastore having the highest weight. The VM may is moved to or created on the target datastore.

  • Patent number: 7963964
Abstract: A surgical clamp assembly includes a clamp having movable jaws, each of which has a clamping surface for engaging a portion of a patient's body. An electrode forms a portion of the clamping surface of at least one of the jaws, the electrode being capable of heating, severing, or cauterizing the portion of the patient's body that is grasped by the clamp. If desired, the clamp assembly can be provided with a retainer that prevents the jaws from being opened accidently. The clamp assembly also can include an actuator that can be detached from the clamp and removed from the operative site, leaving the locked clamp in place. In this type of assembly, when it is desired to remove the clamp, the actuator can be reattached to the clamp and used to disengage the toothed retainer, and thereafter can be used to spread the jaws in order to permit the clamp to be removed.

  • Patent number: 7787450
Abstract: An efficient network formation technique for mobile ad-hoc wireless networks according to the present invention overcomes bandwidth overhead due to generation of database update or Link State Advertisement (LSA) messages in response to changes in certain parameters (e.g., node group size, etc.) with respect to both single and plural node group scenarios. The present invention controls flooding of LSA messages triggered by changes in these parameters (e.g., node group size), thereby reducing overhead traffic during network start-up. This is achieved without impact on message delivery capability and group merge operations. After network start-up is complete and the network is formed, the present invention continues to reduce LSA flooding in a mobile scenario when radios or nodes move into and out of range with one another.

  • Patent number: 7646860
Abstract: A method and apparatus for identifying a caller who does not provide caller identification on an unanswered call. The caller is asked to record his/her name (or some other characteristic utterance). If the call is unanswered, the record is retained and can be accessed by the called party when that party requests his/her stored voice mail. Advantageously, even on unanswered calls, the identity of the caller can be presented to the called party when that called party requests stored voice mail messages, even if the calling party has private service.
