  • Patent number: 8055990
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system are provided for error detection for improving data integrity in protocol offloading. Aspects of the invention may enable receiving a block of data having a modulo-based input error detection code and an error correction term appended thereto, calculating an output error detection code of the block, combining the input error detection code and the error correction term to produce a modified error detection code, and comparing the calculated error detection code to the modified error detection code so as to detect an error in the block. The error correction term may be equal to a binary difference between the input error detection code and the output error detection code. The input error detection code and the error correction term may be combined by applying an XOR operation.

  • Patent number: 8054316
Abstract: A system and method for adjusting pictures minimizes the impact on graphics processing performance of a discrete processor. A hybrid system configuration includes the discrete processor and an integrated processor, where the discrete processor typically consumes more power and provides greater processing performance compared with the integrated processor. A picture is produced by a video or graphics engine of a discrete processor within a hybrid system. Each picture is then transferred to a back buffer in the host processing memory. The picture is analyzed to produce picture analysis results that are used to generate adjustment settings. The back buffer is swapped to become the front buffer and the adjustment settings are applied to the picture by an integrated processor to display an adjusted picture. The adjustment may be used in conjunction with power saving techniques to maintain the image quality when display backlighting is reduced.

  • Patent number: 8054832
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes performing, at a host device on a first side of a single-hop link, packet classification associated with hairpin routing of a first data packet between a first virtual resource and a second virtual resource that are logically defined at the host device. The first virtual resource can be different than the second virtual resource. The also includes transmitting a second data packet to a network device on a second side of the single-hop link so that packet classification associated with hairpin routing of the second data packet between at least two virtual resources logically defined at the host device is performed at the network device.

  • Patent number: 8055088
Abstract: Novel, computationally efficient schemes for deterministic wavelet thresholding with the objective of optimizing maximum-error metrics are provided. An optimal low polynomial-time algorithm for one-dimensional wavelet thresholding based on a new dynamic-programming (DP) formulation is provided that can be employed to minimize the maximum relative or absolute error in the data reconstruction. Directly extending a one-dimensional DP algorithm to multi-dimensional wavelets results in a super-exponential increase in time complexity with the data dimensionality. Thus, novel, polynomial-time approximation schemes (with tunable approximation guarantees for the target maximum-error metric) for deterministic wavelet thresholding in multiple dimensions are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8055956
Abstract: The present invention provides a built-in self-repairable memory. The invention repairs a faulty IC through hard fuses, as well as through available redundancy in memories on chip. As the faults are not present in all the memories, the invention uses a lesser number of fuses to actually make a repair and thus results in a yield enhancement. The fuse data is stored in a compressed form and then decompressed as a restore happens at the power on. The fuse data interface with the memory to be repaired is serial. The serial links decreases the routing congestion and hence gain in area as well as gain in yield (due to lesser defects and reduced area).

  • Patent number: 8055669
Abstract: A search query for a search engine may be improved by incorporating alternate terms into the search query that are semantically similar to terms of the search query, taking into account information derived from the search query. An initial set of alternate terms that may be semantically similar to the original terms in the search query is generated. The initial set of alternate terms may be compared to information derived from the original search query. One example of such information is a set of documents retrieved in response to a search performed using the initial search query. One or more of the alternate terms may be added to the original search query based on their relationship to the information derived from the original search query.

  • Publication number: 20110268289
Abstract: For headphone subsystems that employ common ground switches for speaker outputs (for example), there can be a significant issue with cross-talk and ground noise. Here, configurations for an amplifier and switch network are provided, which generally cancel noise from the “ground switch,” so as to provide an improvement over conventional configurations with little overhead. Additionally, the cross-talk for these configurations are not generally dependent on the “ground switch” or speaker impedance.
