  • Patent number: 7796593
Abstract: In general, techniques are described for flooding VPLS traffic with a network device according to flood groups. The network device resides within a layer 3 (L3) network and includes a control unit that executes a virtual private LAN service (VPLS) protocol that enables a VPLS domain to operate over the L3 network. The network device further includes a plurality of packet forwarding engines, each of which include a plurality of interface cards that receive a layer 2 (L2) message originating from the L2 network. The packet forwarding engines associate the L2 packet with a configurable flood group, wherein the flood group defines criteria to determine which messages to associate to the flood group and indicates a set of the interface cards for forwarding the associated messages. The packet forwarding engines further flood the L2 packet via each interface card indicated by the associated flood group.

  • Publication number: 20100228969
Abstract: A public key infrastructure comprises a client side to request and utilize certificates in communication across a network and a server side to administer issuance and maintenance of said certificates. The server side has a portal to receive requests for a certificate from a client. A first policy engine to processes such requests in accordance with a set of predefined protocols. A certification authority is also provided to generate certificates upon receipt of a request from the portal. The CA has a second policy engine to implement a set of predefined policies in the generation of a certificate. Each of the policy engines includes at least one policy configured as a software component e.g. a Java bean, to perform the discreet functions associated with the policy and generate notification in response to a change in state upon completion of the policy.

  • Publication number: 20100228701
Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for updating Bloom filters. Embodiments of the invention facilitate more efficient use Bloom filters across multiple computers connected across a WAN (potentially having limited bandwidth and latency characteristics), such as, for example, computers located on different continents. The acceptability of false positives is leveraged by allowing the operation of removing items from a set to be batched and delayed. On the other hand, insert operations may be more latency sensitive as a delayed insert results in the semantic equivalent to a false negative. As such, additions to a set are processed in closer to real time to update Bloom filters. In some embodiments, Bloom filters are used to check set membership for electronic mail addresses.

  • Patent number: 7792227
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for carrier detection associated with the receipt of MIMO RF packet communications. This involves receiving multiple MIMO RF packet communications with multiple receiver pathways, wherein the RF packet communications each comprise a preamble and data. The RF packet communications are sampled by a carrier detector before, during or after conversion to baseband. The carrier detectors are used to produce a set of carrier detection metrics for each reception pathway. These carrier detection metrics may be combined arithmetically with those of other reception pathways to produce a multi-reception pathway carrier detect. Alternatively, these carrier detection metrics can be processed to produce a logical decision or binary detection signal value associated with each reception pathway, which is then logically combined with the logical decisions of other reception pathways to produce a multi-reception pathway carrier detect.

  • Patent number: 7793104
Abstract: A system and method of security authentication and key management scheme in a multi-hop wireless network is provided herein with a hop-by-hop security model. The scheme adapts the 802.11r key hierarchy into the meshed AP network. In this approach, a top key holder (R0KH) derives and holds the top Pairwise Master Key (PMK—0) for each supplicant wireless device after the authentication process. All authenticator AP take the level one key holder (R1KH) role and receive the next level Pairwise Master Key (PMK—1) from R0KH. The link level data protection key is derived from PMK—1 via the 802.11i 4-way handshaking.
