  • Patent number: 8504869
Abstract: In certain embodiments, a method is disclosed for recovering a failed client device in a network. The method includes booting a failed one of a plurality of client devices in the network with a generic image having a generic kernel usable with each of the plurality of client devices. The method further includes downloading, using said generic kernel, from at least one backup server an abbreviated kernel uniquely associated with the failed client device, the abbreviated kernel comprising substantially less data than an original kernel of the failed client device immediately prior to failure of the failed client device, the abbreviated kernel comprising a boot kernel image and at least one device driver. The method includes swapping the abbreviated kernel with the generic kernel; restoring, using said abbreviated kernel, remaining backup data from the at least one backup server to the failed client device; and rebooting the failed client device.

  • Patent number: 8501504
Abstract: According to one exemplary embodiment, a non-destructive method for determining a breakdown voltage of a dielectric layer on a semiconductor substrate includes injecting a test current in increasing ramp steps into the dielectric layer. The method further includes measuring a test voltage across the dielectric layer at each increasing ramp step of the test current. The method further includes detecting a dropped test voltage in response to the increasing ramp steps of the test current. The ramp steps of the test current can be substantially logarithmically increased. The breakdown voltage of the dielectric layer can be designated to be substantially equal to the dropped test voltage.

Abstract: Techniques for validating business continuity preparedness of a virtual machine are described herein. The techniques may include executing a workload on a virtual machine and replicating the workload to another virtual machine. The replication may include generating one or more logs indicating changes that have occurred on the virtual machine and sending the one or more logs to the other virtual machine. Upon initiation of a failover, the workload may stop execution on the virtual machine and a log may be sent to the other virtual machine. The log may indicate changes occurring on the virtual machine to a point in time when execution of the workload stopped. The log may be stored to the other virtual machine. The workload may continue execution on the other virtual machine and may be replicated to the virtual machine.

  • Patent number: 8498219
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes receiving label data that indicates all interface labels that belong to each path ID of multiple path IDs associated with corresponding multiple paths between provider edge nodes in a Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network. Each interface label is associated with a network interface on a node in the MPLS network. Based on the label data, an untested list that holds data that indicates all unique interface labels is generated. A tested interface selected from the untested list is scheduled for testing. After scheduling, the interface label of the tested interface is removed from the untested list. It is determined whether the untested list still includes data for at least one interface label. If not, then a test of the MPLS network is completed without testing every path end to end, thus conserving network resources.
