  • Patent number: 7019742
Abstract: 2D imposters representing 3D graphical objects, such as virtual spectators in a simulated sports arena, are dynamically displayed at predefined locations relative to an arbitrarily movable camera position in a virtual space. A hierarchical data structure is created with branches corresponding to iteratively subdivided groups of imposter data structures and is used to store polygon vertices, texture data, and other 2D imposter data generated during run-time. Center locations of the hierarchically divided groupings are used to determine a common projection location within a current view volume at which each 2D imposter is projected as an oriented image from each corresponding animated 3D graphical object. Sets of contiguous 2D imposter data are determined based on currently visible groupings of predefined locations that do not require rendering as 3D graphical objects due to their distance from the camera position. Each set of contiguous 2D imposters is rendered with a single draw primitive.

  • Patent number: 7018591
Abstract: A vapor-phase tubular reactor in a shell heat exchanger for removal of the heat of reaction at essentially isothermal conditions has porous wicking surface applied to the external surface of reactor tubes. The porous wicking surface on the reactor tubes draws liquid heat transfer fluid from a reservoir at the bottom of the wicked tube section and provides enhanced evaporative cooling. The invention is particularly useful for highly exothermic reactions or when reaction selectivity is negatively affected by high temperature excursions.

  • Publication number: 20060064123
Abstract: A rapid exchange fluid jet thrombectomy device having a streamlined manifold and a catheter having multiple tubular segments where each tubular segment increases in flexibility in a distal direction. Torque response and pushability is enhanced by the arrangement of a proximally located tubular segment composed of a polymer-jacketed spiral metal tube in combination with an intermediate tubular section and a distal tubular section each having different degrees of flexibility. A guidewire tube exit region is provided where the intermediate tubular section joins the distal tubular section for over-the-wire guidewire usage. The polymer-jacketed spiral metal tube can extend along a partial or full length of the catheter and can include a basic continuous spiral cut which has regions of constant pitch or which has progressively increasing pitch, or in the alternative, can include an interlocking spiral cut having constant pitch regions or progressively decreasing pitch.

  • Publication number: 20060061046
Abstract: A sealing joint comprises, compressed between two parts, a stack of flexible strips separated by offset supports (9); an envelop (1) surrounds this structure (7) and ensures its sealing. Under compression, the strips distort around the supports becoming very stiff for little distortion. Thus, we can rightly be wary of the consequences regarding the relief of strain on the material, notably at high temperatures.

  • Publication number: 20060060922
Abstract: A method of producing a substrate that has a transfer crystalline layer transferred from a donor wafer onto a support. The transfer layer can include one or more foreign species to modify its properties. In the preferred embodiment an atomic species is implanted into a zone of the donor wafer that is substantially free of foreign species to form an embrittlement or weakened zone below a bonding face thereof, with the weakened zone and the bonding face delimiting a transfer layer to be transferred. The donor wafer is preferably then bonded at the level of its bonding face to a support. Stresses are then preferably applied to produce a cleavage in the region of the weakened zone to obtain a substrate that includes the support and the transfer layer. Foreign species are preferably diffused into the thickness of the transfer layer prior to implantation or after cleavage to modify the properties of the transfer layer, preferably its electrical or optical properties.

  • Publication number: 20060061953
Abstract: A memory device is described that is capable of expanding an amount of storage capacity available to a host computer without requiring a user to purchase a new, higher capacity memory device that may be bulky and expensive. The memory device includes a host connector that allows a host computer access to a memory within the memory device. The memory device also includes a first set of electrical contacts accessible through a top major surface of a memory device housing and a second set of electrical contacts accessible through a bottom major surface of the memory device housing. The first and second sets of electrical contacts allow a device, such as another memory device, to couple to the host computer through the memory device. In this way, the amount of memory available to the host computer can be increased while maintaining a small form factor for each of the devices.

  • Patent number: 7014768
Abstract: A process for removal and recovery of nutrients and recycling of water from digested manure or other organic wastes. A first step involves separating waste from an anaerobic digester into digested liquids, digested solids, and biogas. A second step involves precipitating solids from the digested liquids. A third step involves stripping ammonia from the digested liquids. A fourth step involves injecting an exhaust stream of carbon dioxide drawn from the co-generator into the digested liquids to reduce the pH and raise the temperature of the digested liquid. A fifth step involves recycling the digested liquids back to the anaerobic digester for use in diluting in coming solid wastes. A sixth step involves passing the excess ammonia stripped from the digested liquid through the digested solids to recover nitrogen through aborption with the resultant digested solids being usable as a biofertilizer with a high nitrogen content. A seventh step involves capturing the biogas for use in a co-generation system.

  • Patent number: 7014530
Abstract: A slider is described with a resistive electro-lapping guide (ELG), which is aligned with a structure in the write head such as the throat height or trailing shield thickness and extends from the lapping region through the ABS and is connected to pads on the surface of the slider. In a second embodiment the ELG is disposed entirely in the section of the slider which will be removed by lapping. Another embodiment of the invention is a system for single slider lapping which simultaneously monitors the resistance of the read sensor or a read head ELG and at least one ELG that is aligned with a structure in the write head. A controller uses the resistance information to implement an algorithm which decides when lapping should be terminated.

  • Patent number: 7016449
Abstract: A high-speed serial data transceiver includes multiple receivers and transmitters for receiving and transmitting multiple analog, serial data signals at multi-gigabit-per-second data rates. Each receiver includes a timing recovery system for tracking a phase and a frequency of the serial data signal associated with the receiver. The timing recovery system includes a phase interpolator responsive to phase control signals and a set of reference signals having different predetermined phases. The phase interpolator derives a sampling signal, having an interpolated phase, to sample the serial data signal. The timing recovery system in each receiver independently phase-aligns and frequency synchronizes the sampling signal to the serial data signal associated with the receiver. A receiver can include multiple paths for sampling a received, serial data signal in accordance with multiple time-staggered sampling signals, each having an interpolated phase.

  • Publication number: 20060056452
Abstract: In a network comprising an optical link transporting packet streams consisting of successive optical packets separated by voids, the station comprises a transmission device (13) coupled to the link at an insertion point in order to inject optical packets into the link. At a detection point on the link, upstream of the insertion point, a detection device (11) observes the packet streams transported to this detection point. As a function of this observation each packet awaiting transmission and transmitted by the transmission device (13) causes the formation at the insertion point of a downstream packet stream containing the transmitted packet interposed between first and second packets delimiting a void of the upstream stream. The detection device (11) forms a transmission control signal (ACK) such that in the event of transmission as a function of this control signal, any transmitted packet is attached to at least one of the first and second packets.
