  • Publication number: 20050257115
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method of decoding a one-point algebraic geometric code defined on an algebraic curve represented by an equation in X and Z of degree 2?? in Z, where ? is a strictly positive integer and ? an integer greater than 1, obtained by taking the fiber product of ? component algebraic equations, each of said component equations governing the unknown X and an unknown Yi, where i=0, . . . , ??1, and being of degree 2? in Yi. This method comprises the decoding of 2(??1)? “clustered” codes, all defined on the same algebraic curve represented by one of said component equations. • Publication number: 20050255015
Abstract: A polymerization reactor (10) for exothermic liquid phase reactions comprises a reaction zone (31) which is divided into a plurality of channels by thermally conductive heat transfer fins (22) which are conductively mounted on one or more heat pipes (20) for the removal of heat of reaction from reactants and reaction products flowing between the heat transfer fins. The reactor (10) of the invention is capable of maintaining essentially isothermal conditions without the use of complicated and maintenance intensive agitators. The reactor (10) is particularly useful when viscosity of the reactants and/or reaction products is high, when the reaction conducted has a fast reaction rate and when consistent polymer properties are desired.

  • Publication number: 20050256688
Abstract: The invention is a method for fast simulation of the flow of a single and incompressible fluid in a heterogeneous porous medium such as an aquifer or a petroleum reservoir having application to the development of petroleum reservoirs. After discretizing the medium by means of a grid, a permeability field is determined from which a diffusivity equation is directly solved in the spectral domain by an iterative procedure involving fast Fourier transforms. A first algorithm directly manages the pressures and velocities, but it may be slow for great permeability contrasts. A second algorithm, which introduces an intermediate variable updated at each iteration, allows faster processing of greater permeability contrasts than the first algorithm. The third algorithm, based on increased Lagrangian, allows consideration of infinite permeability contrasts. The algorithms allow simulation of flows in weakly to highly heterogeneous media, with a reduced computing time.

  • Patent number: 6965069
Abstract: A digital system and method of operation is provided in which musical notes and melodies are synthesized. The operation done for music synthesis is based on time domain processing of prerecorded waveforms, referred to as analysis waveforms. The computations are done using time-marks, which is a set of digital sample positions of the analysis waveform indicating the starting position of each period of the fundamental frequency or an arbitrary position for non-periodic analysis waveforms. The algorithm defines on a time scale the time-marks of the synthesis waveform. The synthesis is based on making a relation between the analysis time-marks and the synthesis time-marks. The synthesis waveforms are built with the extraction of small portions of signal located at corresponding time-mark positions of the analysis waveform and adding them to the corresponding synthesis time-marks on the synthesis time-scale.

  • Patent number: 6965233
Abstract: In the acquisition of NMR signals in FSE or fast spin echo type sequences the emission phase of the 180° refocusing pulse evolves quadratically. In order to prevent problems of oscillation of the output signal, the sequence is subjected to a preparation pulses. A history is provided for the common difference of the quadratic sequence of the phase variation with respect to the first seven refocusing pulses. This history leads to an immediate thermal equilibrium.

  • Patent number: 6965987
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for managing load and store operations necessary for reading from and writing to memory or I/O in a superscalar RISC architecture environment. To perform this task, a load store unit is provided whose main purpose is to make load requests out of order whenever possible to get the load data back for use by an instruction execution unit as quickly as possible. A load operation can only be performed out of order if there are no address collisions and no write pendings. An address collision occurs when a read is requested at a memory location where an older instruction will be writing. Write pending refers to the case where an older instruction requests a store operation, but the store address has not yet been calculated. The data cache unit returns 8 bytes of unaligned data. The load/store unit aligns this data properly before it is returned to the instruction execution unit.

  • Publication number: 20050251653
Abstract: A system and method for extracting complex, variable length computer instructions from a stream of complex instructions each subdivided into a variable number of instructions bytes, and aligning instruction bytes of individual ones of the complex instructions. The system receives a portion of the stream of complex instructions and extracts a first set of instruction bytes starting with the first instruction bytes, using an extract shifter. The set of instruction bytes are then passed to an align latch where they are aligned and output to a next instruction detector. The next instruction detector determines the end of the first instruction based on said set of instruction bytes. An extract shifter is used to extract and provide the next set of instruction bytes to an align shifter which aligns and outputs the next instruction. The process is then repeated for the remaining instruction bytes in the stream of complex instructions.

  • Publication number: 20050250990
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for placing and advancing a diagnostic or therapeutic instrument in a hollow body organ of a tortuous or unsupported anatomy, comprising a handle, an overtube disposed within a hydrophilic sheath or liner, and a distal region having an atraumatic tip. The sheath/liner may be disposable to permit reuse of the overtube. Loading devices may be provided for disposing the sheath/liner about the overtube. Tensioning mechanisms may be provided to selectively stiffen the overtube to reduce distension of the organ caused by advancement of the diagnostic or therapeutic instrument. The distal region permits passive steering of the overtube caused by deflection of the diagnostic or therapeutic instrument, while the atraumatic tip prevents the wall of the organ from becoming caught or pinched during manipulation of the diagnostic or therapeutic instrument.
