  • Publication number: 20080091999
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided implementing a scan chain diagnostics technique. The diagnostics technique includes employing fuses coupled to latches of the scan chain to load a known logic value into the latches at known locations of the scan chain, and then unloading values from the scan chain, and if the scan chain is defective (for example, based on the unloaded logic values), then localizing a defect in the scan chain from the unloaded logic values by comparison thereof with the known locations of the latches of the scan chain loaded with the known logic value via the fuses. The scan chain may be predesigned with fuses spaced periodically across the chain every n latches to facilitate subsequent localization of a detected defect in the scan chain.

  • Publication number: 20080087875
Abstract: Techniques for fabricating metal devices, such as vertical light-emitting diode (VLED) devices, power devices, laser diodes, and vertical cavity surface emitting laser devices, are provided. Devices produced accordingly may benefit from greater yields and enhanced performance over conventional metal devices, such as higher brightness of the light-emitting diode and increased thermal conductivity. Moreover, the invention discloses techniques in the fabrication arts that are applicable to GaN-based electronic devices in cases where there is a high heat dissipation rate of the metal devices that have an original non- (or low) thermally conductive and/or non- (or low) electrically conductive carrier substrate that has been removed.

  • Publication number: 20080092142
Abstract: Techniques are presented for skew exception detection within a parallel processing environment. A potential exception is detected when a highest load of a processor within the parallel processing environment exceeds an average load within the parallel processing environment by a given threshold. The potential exception can become a legitimate exception when it exists for a qualified period or time or when it exists and no qualified period of time is noted. In an embodiment, checks for the potential exception occur and are wholly contained within a given configurable interval.

  • Patent number: 7359893
Abstract: Techniques are described for delivering search results pages to the users of a search engine, where one or more search result listings on the search results pages include one or more items that are associated with links to resources that satisfy a related search and that satisfy a specified condition. The items that are delivered with the search results may be associated with a party that is different than the party that controls the resource to which the link is associated, and may be delivered such that any item that is displayed based on the item's association with a link to a resource is displayed in a frame of display that is different than a frame of the display in which the link to which the item is associated is displayed.

  • Patent number: 7359445
Abstract: A system, method and computer program product are provided for demodulating Quadrature Amplitude Modulated (QAM) signals based upon a speed of a receiver. The system includes a receiver and a demapping element. The receiver is capable of receiving a QAM signal over at least one slot. The demapping element can then be capable of estimating the amplitude of a signal constellation of the QAM signal over either one or more of the slot(s) or fractions of the slot(s) based upon the speed of the receiver. More particularly, the demapping element can estimate the amplitude by first estimating an expectation of a power of a signal combination of a traffic symbol and a pilot symbol, where the expectation can be estimated over either one or more of the slot(s) or fractions of the slot(s). The demapping element can also estimate a bias, and thereafter estimate the amplitude based upon the expectation of the power of the signal combination and the bias.

  • Patent number: 7358908
Abstract: A system and method are provided for regulating the electrical length of an antenna. The method comprises: communicating transmission line signals at a predetermined frequency between a transceiver and an antenna; sensing transmission line signals; and, modifying the antenna electrical length in response to sensing the transmission line signals. Sensing transmission line signals typically means sensing transmission line signal power levels. In some aspects, the antenna impedance is modified. Alternately, it can be stated that the transmission line signal strength is optimized between the transceiver and the antenna. More specifically, communicating transmission line signals at a predetermined frequency between a transceiver and an antenna includes accepting the transmission line signal from the transceiver at an antenna port. Then, sensing transmission line signals includes measuring the transmission line signal reflected from the antenna port.

  • Patent number: 7360146
Abstract: Inverse function of min*:min*? (inverse function of max*:max*?). Two new parameters are employed to provide for much improved decoding processing for codes that involve the determination of a log corrected minimal and/or a log corrected maximal value from among a number of possible values. Examples of some of the codes that may benefit from the improved decoding processing provided by the inverse function of min*:min*? (and/or inverse function of max*:max*?) include turbo coding, parallel concatenated trellis coded modulated (PC-TCM) code, turbo trellis coded modulated (TTCM) code, and low density parity check (LDPC) code among other types of codes. The total number of processing steps employed within the decoding of a signal is significantly reduced be employing the inverse function of min*:min*? (and/or inverse function of max*:max*?) processing.
