Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method for evaluating structure-borne sound during a collision of a vehicle. The method includes filtering a structure-borne sound signal which represents a structure-borne sound propagating in the vehicle, having a plurality of filter rules. Each of the filter rules is configured to generate a filtered structure-borne sound signal from the structure-borne sound signal. The method further includes combining the filtered structure-borne sound signals into an evaluation signal.

Abstract: A GPS device comprises a GPS unit, a visor, and an optional attachment means to attach the visor to the GPS unit to improve the viewing of the visual display screen under bright light and/or to eliminate the reflection of the lighted display screen of the GPS unit from a vehicle's windshield during nighttime driving; a visor set comprising said visor and said attachment means; said visor or visor set optionally comprising a GPS antenna for stronger reception and/or a faster acquisition of satellite GPS signals; a method for improving the viewing of the display screen under bright light, for eliminating reflection of the display screen from the vehicle's windshield, and for providing improved satellite GPS signals by using the GPS device or the visor set hereinabove; and an article of manufacture comprising the GPS device or the visor set hereinabove, in association with instructions for use.

Abstract: A disk drive tester is disclosed operable to test a plurality of disk drives, each disk drive comprising a head actuated over a disk. The disk drive tester comprises a plurality of test slots, where each test slot is operable to receive one of the disk drives. The disk drive tester further comprises an interface for receiving vibration data from the disk drives, wherein the vibration data at least partially represents a vibration applied to each disk drive by the respective test slot. The disk drive tester further comprises control circuitry operable to detect when one of the test slots is defective in response to the vibration data.

Abstract: In systems and methods of varying a latency timer in a wireless communication system, a network identifier associated with an access node in communication with a wireless device is received at a communication node during the establishment of a communication session between a wireless device and the communication node. At least one latency timer criteria is determined based on the network identifier, and at least one latency timer is adjusted according to the latency timer criteria.

Abstract: A mounting fixture includes a box, a first arm, and a second arm. The box includes a primary panel, four sidewalls rearwardly extending from the primary panel, and a central hub rearwardly extending from a rear surface of the primary panel. The first arm extends beyond one of the four sidewalls, includes a first elongated slot, and has a first hook section at an outermost end thereof. The first elongated slot extends around and is slidably adjustable relative to the central hub to cause the first arm to extend further from or closer to the one of the four sidewalls. The second arm extends beyond a different one of the four sidewalls, includes a second elongated slot, and has a second hook section at an outermost end thereof. The second elongated slot extends around and is slidably adjustable relative to the central hub.

Abstract: A communication system for communication sessions, such as voice calls, conference calls, and instant messaging chat sessions, includes a plurality of communication devices and one or more servers configured to provide data communication among the plurality of communication devices. Data contexts having chronological user-generated content are established and maintained between different communication devices. An indication of current user-generated content of a data context is sent from a calling/initiating party to one or more receiving parties when a communication session is initiated. The indication of current user-generated content can then be used by the one or more receiving parties to determine whether the communication session is to be accepted and, if accepted, to quickly become familiar with the subject of the communication session.

Abstract: A drill bit made according to one embodiment includes a source configured to induce radiation into a formation during drilling of a wellbore and a sensor in the drill bit configured to detect radiation from the formation responsive to the radiation induced by the source. The drill bit may further include a circuit configured to process signals received from the sensor to estimate a property of the formation.

Abstract: A display fixture for securely displaying a mobile device includes a cross brace and at least two corner members. The cross brace defines a center portion and arms each radially extending outwardly therefrom and terminating in a free end opposite the center portion. The at least two corner members each include a first substantially planar wall, a second substantially planar wall, and two sidewalls extending between substantially linear closed edges of the first substantially planar wall and the second substantially planar wall. A cavity is defined by each of the at least two corner members and is configured to receive a corner of the mobile device. Each of the at least two corner members is secured to a different free end of the cross brace such that an opening to the cavity of each of the at least two corner members faces the center portion of the cross brace.

Abstract: A device for securing closed a drawer of a dresser, cabinet or desk. The device includes a base that is secured to an interior surface of the frame, which cannot be accessed when the drawer is closed within the drawer opening of the frame, and an extending member. The extending member has a first end portion that attaches releasably to the base, and a second end that extends exteriorly through the drawer opening and between the drawer and the frame. The device is not built into or integral with the drawer or the frame of the dresser, cabinet or desk.

Abstract: Events are classified through string pattern recognition. Text labels are assigned to image primitives in a time-ordered set of training images and to related time-ordered transactions in an associated training transaction log in a combined time-ordered training string of text labels as a function of image types. Transactions are labeled in a training transaction log with a transaction label, a training primitive image of a start of a transaction with a start image text label, a training primitive of an entry of a transaction into the log with an entry image text label, and a training primitive of a conclusion of a transaction with an ending image text label. Positive subset string patterns are discovered representing true events from the combined time-ordered training string of text labels, and negative subset string patterns defined by removing single transaction primitive labels from the positive subset string patterns.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed, at least in part, to a self ligating orthodontic bracket having a rotatable member for securing an archwire within a slot of the bracket. Embodiments of the orthodontic bracket disclosed herein include a bracket body containing the archwire slot as well as tie wings for attaching various orthodontic devices (e.g., elastomeric bands) to the bracket. The rotatable member is rotatable in a first direction (e.g., counter clockwise) relative to a body of the bracket for securing or locking the archwire within the slot, and for rotating in an opposite direction (e.g., a clockwise direction) relative to the bracket body for unsecuring or unlocking the archwire so that it is substantially unrestrained from exiting the slot.

Abstract: Visual content in images captured from a scene by a camera in each of a plurality of different pose settings are analyzed to determine predicted occurrences of a transaction associated with the visual content in each pose, which are compared with actual transaction occurrence data to generate performance values for each pose as a function difference between the predicted and actual transactions. Optimized poses are chosen having the best performance value, wherein a camera controller may place the camera in the optimum pose for use in monitoring the scene and generating the primitives of interest associated with the transactions.

Abstract: A multi-chamber processing system includes a transfer chamber, a first processing chamber outfitted to perform CVD, a second processing chamber, and a robot positioned to transfer substrates between the transfer chamber, the first processing chamber, and the second processing chamber. The second processing chamber may include one or a combination of a first electrode and a second electrode comprising a plasma cavity formed therein.

Abstract: A system and method for merging multi-modal communications are disclosed. The multi-modal communications can be synchronous, asynchronous and semi-synchronous. By way of a non-limiting example, at least two devices operating with varied modalities can be connected to a conferencing appliance. The conferencing appliance can integrate the differing modalities from the at least two devices by executing at least one of turn taking, conference identification, participant identification, ordering of interjections, modulation of meaning, expectation of shared awareness, floor domination and combination thereof.

Abstract: One or more interactions between a first user and a second user of a social networking system are identified. Each respective interaction of the one or more interactions is scored based on a group score and a time penalty. The group score is based on the number of users in the respective interaction and the time penalty is based on a time between a current time and a time of a last interaction between the first user and the second user. A relationship ranking that measures the first user's affinity towards the second user is determined, where the relationship ranking comprises one or more interaction scores. An indicator representing the relationship ranking is sent to a client for display.

Abstract: A global position of an observed object is determined by obtaining a first global position of an observed object with at least one positioning device. A determination is made as to whether a set of stored visual characteristic information of at least one landmark matches a visual characteristic information set obtained from at least one captured image comprising a scene associated with the observed object. In response to the set of stored visual characteristic information matching the obtained visual characteristic information set, a second global position of the observed object is determined based on a set of stored location information associated with the at least one landmark and the first global position.

Abstract: An electronic device includes a housing having an external surface and a magnet within the housing that moves from a first position where the magnetic axis is substantially parallel to the external surface to a second position where the magnetic axis is substantially perpendicular to the external surface. The magnet may be configured to move in the presence of an external magnetic field of another magnet, thereby engaging the two magnets.

Abstract: A handle assembly for a door of a vehicle includes a housing, and a grab bar moveably supported by the housing. The grab bar is linearly moveable along a linear path between a retracted position and an extended position. The linear path is disposed on a plane. A motor is attached to the housing, and includes an output rotatable about a rotation axis. The rotation axis is perpendicular to the plane. A scotch yoke mechanism interconnects the output of the motor and the grab bar. The scotch yoke mechanism translates rotational movement of the output into the linear movement of the grab bar to move the grab bar between the extended position and the retracted position.
