  • Publication number: 20110201343
Abstract: A method and apparatus for supporting machine-type communications (MTC) are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may configure itself to operate in a mobile-originated-only mode. The WTRU may perform no, or a subset of, radio resource control (RRC) idle and/or non-access stratum (NAS) idle/standby state procedures in the mobile-originated-only mode. For example, the WTRU may perform cell reselection but not paging monitoring in the mobile-originated-only mode. Alternatively, the WTRU may perform paging monitoring but not cell reselection and location update. The operation in the mobile-originated-only mode may be triggered explicitly or implicitly. For example, the WTRU may operate in the mobile-originated-only mode if an inactivity timer expires. The WTRU may switch the mode in accordance with a pre-configured schedule. After transition of the operation mode, the WTRU may send a message to the network indicating such mode switch.

  • Patent number: 8000291
Abstract: The present invention is related to a method of selecting an enhanced uplink (EU) transport format combination (E-TFC). A scheduling grant payload (SGP) is set to the highest payload that may be transmitted. The SGP is calculated as follows: SGP = K e , ref · SG L e , ref · A ed , ref 2 · 10 ? ? ? harq / 10 , where SG is a serving grant, Le,ref is the number of EU dedicated physical data channels (E-DPDCHs) used for a selected reference E-TFC, Ke,ref is the number of data bits of the reference E-TFC, ?harq is a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) offset for a specific data flow to be transmitted as signaled by higher layers, and Aed,ref is a ratio derived from a parameter ?E-DPDCH signaled by higher layers for the selected reference E-TFC.

  • Patent number: 7843875
Abstract: Method of and apparatus for searching for enhanced dedicated channel transport format combinations (E-TFCs) in a table is disclosed. A transmission time interval (TTI) and an E-TFC data are received. An appropriate E-TFC table is selected based on the received TTI and E-TFC data. The E-TFC table is split into a plurality of sub-tables. All the E-TFCs in each of the sub-tables have the same maximum power reduction value and are continuous in the table. Each sub-table is searched.

  • Publication number: 20100273517
Abstract: A method and an apparatus are provided for controlling component temperature in a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) and thereby preventing the component from reaching an undesirable temperature. A method and an apparatus are provided for reducing a value of a maximum allowed transmit power to adjust a data rate. The WTRU adjusts the value of the maximum allowed transmit power resulting in an adjustment to the temperature of the component.

  • Publication number: 20100003977
Abstract: A method and apparatus are used in cooperative relays with incremental redundancy (IR) and distributed spatial multiplexing. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may listen to the base station (BS) transmission during Phase 1 of the communication, and use cooperation between a relay station (RS) and the BS for the data transmission during Phase 2 to improve performance. During Phase 2, both the BS and the RS may transmit data to the WTRU, using either distributed Space Time Block Codes/Space Frequency Block Codes (STBC/SFBC) or distributed spatial multiplexing.

  • Publication number: 20080215948
Abstract: A method and apparatus for hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) transmission are disclosed. If a packet has not been successfully transmitted, it is determined whether an HARQ early termination condition is met. If the HARQ early termination condition is met, the HARQ process is terminated and the packet is discarded at the HARQ level. The HARQ early termination condition is met if a positive acknowledgement (ACK) has not been received until the number of retransmissions reaches a predetermined limit that is dynamically configured based on channel condition, measurement, etc. Alternatively, the HARQ early termination condition is met if a transmit power required for successful transmission of the packet is much higher than an actual transmit power. Alternatively, the HARQ early termination condition is met if a transport format combination (TFC) selected for retransmission is different from an optimal TFC. A higher layer may be notified of the early HARQ termination.

  • Publication number: 20080170522
Abstract: A method and apparatus for indicating a transmission status to a higher layer are disclosed. In the transmitting entity, a radio link control (RLC) entity sends a packet delivery notification regarding delivery status of a higher layer message to a higher layer entity based on hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback information obtained from an HARQ entity. The RLC entity may send the packet delivery notification to the higher layer entity based on an RLC status report. Alternatively, the HARQ entity may send the packet delivery notification to the higher layer entity and/or the RLC entity based on HARQ feedback. The higher layer entity may update the higher layer message before retransmitting the higher layer message. If the RLC entity segments an RLC service data unit (SDU) and delivery of at least one segment of the RLC SDU fails, the RLC entity may discard the RLC SDU.

  • Publication number: 20080144541
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transport format combination restriction in a high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) system. An enhanced transport format combination (E-TFC) table is split into sub-tables. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) selects one of the sub-tables and a window within the selected sub-table to search. The WTRU then determines whether or not a first element in the search window is blocked. If the first element in the search window is blocked, then the WTRU assumes that all of the elements in the selected sub-table are blocked. If the first element in the search window is not blocked, the WTRU then determines whether a last element in the search window is blocked. If the last element is not blocked, the WTRU assumes that all elements smaller than or equal to the last element are not blocked, and all elements greater than the last element are blocked. If the last element is blocked, the size of the search window is reduced until it is determined that the last element is not blocked.

  • Publication number: 20070232359
Abstract: An access point operating in a wireless communication network includes a smart antenna for generating directional antenna beams. A method for operating the access point includes communicating with a client station using a selected directional antenna beam, with the client station initially being in a stationary position. Signal to noise ratios of signals received from the client station within a time interval are measured. At least one variation metric of a mean of the measured signal to noise ratios within the time interval is determined. This at least one determined variation metric is compared to a threshold for determining if the client station is moving.
